No follow from a national newspaper
-
A national newspaper wrote an article about our product and included a link to our site. I'm sure that's a good thing, but what exactly are the benefits to our site when they use a no follow?
Best,
Christopher -
It's great to have a link to your site from a national newspaper, what an exposure! It is expected for the newspaper to mark your link no follow as they cannot vouch for your content however there is much value in the link being present. It is still a backlink which is counted and surely has a value somewhere in Google's complex algorithms. It is also a great 'natural' link to your site. As more weight is given to link profiles it would seem quite unnatural to have no nofollow links. In all, it's a great link to have - well done!

I agree with Shelly. No follow is simply a hey we are not vouching for this external website. Google still follows no follow it just doesn't pass the page juice. It certainly is a good lead mechanism and if they syndicate then you may even have more than one link. I would applaud yourself and keep on moving forward.

Regardless of what google may say, having a nofollow link to your site does pass credibility to you. So having a link from a national newspaper is a big win.
I wouldn't worry too much that it's a no-follow. In my experience, if it's from a great source, it makes little difference. You should still get value from it

You still have the benefits of traffic for your site and visibility, and people who see the article may also write about you and include followed links.

I want to know about the Impact of Do-follow backlinks and No-follow backlinks for increasing DA.
Have Do-follow backlinks and No-Follow backlinks same value to increase Domain Authority in Moz? Recently, I have created 290 profile backlinks which was do-follow. But from yesterday I have seen all backlinks are no-follow now according to the decision of sites' owners. My site's DA has already increased up to 35. Will this DA fall gradually from now? Apart from it, if I have created same backlinks for my another site; will my DA be 35? Please try to clarify it. My site is: Homeworkpaper.net Thanks. Waiting for your valuable answer.

Followed links bad?
I send press releases through 2 different press release agencies. I noticed in the past year or so that one of the agencies started tagging all of the links in my press release with rel=nofollow while the other did not. I couldn't figure out why, so I actually called the "nofollow" agency...they told me that they do this because it is actually BETTER for SEO and that google would penalize you for creating new press releases that do not contain "nofollow" tag.. and that this was done as a result of some recent change to google's algorithm....now I do not know who to believe. Has anyone else heard of this issue and maybe could this be specific to press releases?

Spammy no follow backlinks - what should I do?
There is a individual/company that is creating lots of spam sites in my niche. It doesn't seem that they are trying to rank for any keywords, so I'm a little confused as to their purpose, but here's what they're doing. They scrape the top 10 Google results for each keyword and create a page - so if the niche is "widgets", they scrape the top 10 ranked sites for 'widgets', 'blue widgets', 'red widgets', and so on. A 'results' page is created for each keyword, which is linked from a home page. The results page always contains 10 websites - text is the site metadescription or similar. Each website gets a nofollow link back with the page title used as the anchor text. The host sites all have the keyword in the domain name - e.g www.widgetsxyz.com. The sites are thrown together but interestingly have a very crappy but individual logo (like 90's clipart). The host sites all have high DA/PA due to some very extensive link spam pointing to the sites, with very targeted keywords. There is seemingly no purpose to these sites that I can see - no other 'followed' links on the page or site. Whoever is doing this is churning out tens, if not hundreds of these sites. Any ideas what might be going on here, and whether I should be disavowing these sites (even though no follow). The fear is that they could switch the links to do follow, and get all the major players penalised in one fell swoop. ???

Requesting a Link from a major newspaper
Hi, One of my clients was interviewed by LA Times for an article that came out yesterday. The article is online with the company name but no link. Does anybody have any advice on the best way to get a major newspaper like that to add a follow link? I appreciate any advice! Thanks, Clay

No Follow Link Advice for a Newbie
Hi Moz-ers! 2 part question I would love suggestions to: I'm fairly new to the SEO world and working towards targets of 4 'follow' and 6 'no_follow' links a month, in house. 1. Apart from Wikipedia and bloggers that issue 'no_follow' links, what are good 'no_follow' slink generation ideas? 2. I've read lots about the benefit of no_follow and follow links and the ongoing debate, how does this target/KPI stack up against others out there? And is it a well structured target? I know its a big question, but I'd love some feedback. Big Thanks!

Does Google and other web crawlers follow through HTML forms?
Has anyone read or heard anything about this? I'm trying to decide if it's necessary to spell out all form options as links as well? Thanks!

Product Giveaways and No-Follow
If a blogger is given a product from a company for a giveaway contest on their blog, does Google require the link to the company have a no-follow. This seems like a gray area but I can't find any guidelines put out by Google about this.

Obtaining followed links - white or black?
I have just watched the overtake of the number one UK position for garden accessories. The old 1st place holder held it for the last 2.5 years (min) ....taking a look at the back links of the number one holder it seems they are paid links ...as they are little follow image adverts with anchor text posted on the home page of niche blogs, forums and design related website.. ....so is this white hat or black hat?
