Syndicated Posts Not Ranking, Possible Solutions?
-
All,
We used to allow users of our legal information site to syndicate content that was published in identical form on their blogs and, in some cases, other sites as well. No surprise that post-Panda, we're not ranking for those syndicated posts, they offer very little value.
We still boast a very nice library of original content that drives traffic, however, I'm concerned that those lingering syndicated posts are bringing down our overall domain authority/credibility. Right now, syndicated posts account for roughly 25%-30% of overall site content.
I'd like your opinions as to whether I should:
1. Delete the syndicated posts and 301 to an original page;
2. Do nothing
3. Do something I've yet to think of
Any insight is welcomed!
John

If I owned your site I would rewrite the text from scratch. The more different you make it from the original the more traffic you will receive. Also the more substance and length that you can include the more long tail traffic will be received.
Syndicating your content creates competitors and now that you are not ranking the damage is obvious. So you can spin the articles and stay in the doghouse or redo them properly and have a chance at recovery.
I would be creating content that puts the syndicated copy to shame - higher quality, more substantive, broader coverage.

OK, great idea, but how much must I change in order for Google to see the content as a unique product?

Rewrite them.

Page has Noindex, nofollow, still ranks #1
Hi there, I have a question about a few pages on our site, whom has a no index, nofollow meta tag but they are still indexed and even rank number one in our market for the term. How is that possible or is it that Google just ignores the tags when they think it´s an error from our side? The url is www.drogisterij.net/kilo_killer and the keyword is kilo killer. We rank number 1 if you search from Google.nl Anyone have seen it before and know why this might be? Thanks in advance.

Rankings have fallen suddenly - I need a plan of attack.
I started my business a few years ago. Only recently (6 month) I started to get some good traffic and sales. At first I was ranking pretty well 3-5 for my main keywords and business began to pick up. After Penguin I was hit hard and I'm placing 10-17'ish. My Google local/places has disappeared too. I haven't received any contact from Google about unnatural links (but I'm not sure where that would appear? Email? Web Master Tools? Horses head on my pillow?). I've read so many different things online about what I 'could' do. I'm not sure where to start. I've checked and I know we've created lots of questionable back links. Using the Open Site Explorer lots of the backlinks don't have terrible DA but some do. I guess I was hoping someone would give me a checklist or priority list of things to do. It's just me so I need to use my time as best I can. What should I be doing first? Should I be trying to: Remove my bad backlinks? Spend my time making quality backlinks. On-page issues that I can't see? Telling google i'm sorry via web master tools. Changing to new domain (eek) I'm very time poor and hoped the seoMoz community might save me from wasting my time. www.bringyourownlaptop.com.au Keywords: indesign training, web design courses & photoshop courses Thank you in advance. Odd Ranking Page - Contact Us
Hi Everyone, So I have a client and when they are logged in the "Contact Us" page ranks as the number 1 page. She sends me screenshots when she is looked in through the corporate Google account, in a panic because of this...I am guessing she is frequently visiting the contact us page while logged in, which is why this is happening but I can't think of any other reason. From a ranking factors perspective there aren't any reasons for this. There are barely any links pointing to this page. I just don't know what to tell her. I can't duplicate it.

Google ranking downgraded
On Sept 29th our website 'keyword' rankings who totally destroy. We were always #1 to #2 for these keywords 1. listing presentation
Technical SEO | | RandyRoussie
2. real estate presentation Our website is: http://www.agentpresentations.com We asked Google through Webmaster Tools to reconsider the site and they replied back saying nothing was wrong. We run Google Adwords and we contacted them and they looked at the keywords and sent screenshots to us showing the ranking we still there. But they are not... as proven in Webmaster tools. So Adwords told us to ask Webmaster Tools to reconsider the site again. Nothing yet... What do you suggest?0 -
Sudden Ranking Drop
One of my clients websites : http://www.renta-vw.co.za experienced a sudden ranking drop on 24/08/2012 for 2 of the Keyword terms : The 2 terms are : cheap car hire cape town cheap car rental cape town. The site ranked top 3 in Googel.de, Google.com, .co.uk, .nl I'm not sure if it is just a 'Google Dance' or something else at play? I checked Webmaster tools and did not see any messages from Google... This is causing a big loss of revenue for my client and after doing extensive analysis, I'm not the wiser as to what the issue is? Please assit. Thanks, Marnus
