Do you ever forget the SEO basics?
-
We all get a little sloppy at times. Just yesterday , someone pointed out that I accidentally blocked the robots from one of our primary pages, because it was being included in a wildcard match on one of the disallow commands in robots.txt.
Sometimes the mistakes are very basic. The one below is just too funny. I thought I would share the love. Search Google for "MD care"
MD Care Inc. - Welcome<a id="LXPLSS_979677678U1"></a>
<cite>www.mdcarehealthplan.com/</cite>
This is an SEO description that will be seen by the search engines and used in the search results.
The meta keywords tag is even funnier:
<meta name="keywords" content="spam,the,keywords,here,like,this,and this,good" />

how are you going to noindex a cgi-bin, or scripts, or pdfs you don't want indexed or image folders with the noindex meta though
-
Call me paranoid, or maybe a control freak, but noindex meta tag is my friend
It's gonna have to be a damned persuasive argument to get me to use robots.txt.
Seen too many disastrous mistakes!

Thanks - I am not that bad - I only blocked out one page. I'll just wait until Google comes around.

The meta keywords does make for a good laugh. Their terms of use also states you need written permission to link to them, which is a bit amusing.
Irvingw, did you see the YouMoz post from two days ago about accidentally noindexing the entire site? You're not alone, and if you need some ideas for getting the site reindexed faster, you might check it out at http://www.seomoz.org/ugc/accidental-noindexation-recovery-strategy-amp-results.

Anyone available to hire part time for SEO services?
I have a website (http://www.tbreak.ae) that does tech news and reviews and is based out of the Middle East. I would love to learn more about SEO and do the best job but I just don't have the time. I was thus wondering is there is anyone available that can spend about an hour on my site every day optimising content. I don't know if posting such as offer is allowed or not either but if it is, and if you are interested, then please get back to me on how much it would cost.

A good SEO praxis?
Hi all, having a worpress site with 10 DIFFERENT pages (each with its own different content) and consequently 10 DIFFERENT keywords to optimize......Can somehow Google penalize me for having such a number of different keyowrds? I guess sometimes there no way to avoid it. It depends on the content of each page. You'll need a keyword to optimize them (if you consider they are relevant enough). Thanks.

Optimizing E-Commerce Category Pages For SEO
Hey, Does anyone have any tips for optimizing e-commerce category pages? Looking to add content to each category page but not sure where to put the content i.e. above the footer? Above the search results? In the left hand nav bar? Have a landing page which they click through to see search results? If anyone has any good examples or tips it would be much appreciated. cheers David

Do JSON feed / XML Feeds have any SEO benefits?
We are looking to use a 3rd party customer review provider and I have been told by their rep that it has a feature which allows us to display reviews placed with them about us on our website via JSON feed or XML feed (I have limited technical knowledge so have no idea what this is but am hoping our developer does!) I wanted to ask whether providing data in either format has any SEO benefits? My initial thoughts to provide customer reviews was to be useful to the customer and be useful for search engines as it will be continually updating user generated content (?) Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

SEO Domain Values
I always thought that there was no difference in value between a .com and .net, also that hyphens have the same value as the keyphrase without the hyphen. But I have heard Rand lately saying hyphens are spammy - whats the go? Is CarParts.com better than Car-Parts.com or Car-Parts.net etc?
