Joomla problem, title tag too long
-
Another problem SEOMOZ reported is that my title tags are too long. However, when I type in the title and the description for a particular page on Joomla, the description later appears not only as the meta description, but as part of the page title as well, thus the title appears to be too long. I have no idea how to seperate those two. Anyone?

In Joomla you have you can set up page titles in several places. Global configuration includes use Site Title in page title, Most templates (I just looked at one in JSN Epic) have an SEO option - Enable website title, and you have the option for each page to set metadata options (meta description is here and there is a sitewide meta description).
So, most likely what is happening is you have your settings where you are picking up the site title on every page and then you have put a title on every page (this is the one where alias is under Title).
I would suggest going to Global Configuration and to the right side where it says include site name in page title, mark that as NO. Save and close then look at site (after refreshing). Run SEOmoz page elements before and after and see if there is a change. _If not, you can go back and re check to yes include site title in page titles. (This way you are only changing one thing at a time which is important to track the error and know you are correct). _
If you are still having the problem with meta description, go to Global Config and cut the site meta description out and paste it somewhere else (I am pretty sure you have to be using Explorer for cut and paste in Joomla) or copy it to somewhere so that you do not have to rewrite. Once there is no site meta description, save and close again. Refresh again and run page content from SEOmoz toolbar on a couple of pages. If each page has been given a separate meta desc. then you should be seeing that as opposed to site meta. (Typically the site meta is for the feature page which for our uses is always the home page).
Let us know how this works out and we will follow along. Best.

Thank you so much, I will look into this further!

If you position your cursor somewhere on your home page, right-click and choose VIEW SOURCE you will notice towards the top of the page the following code:
<title>Free Games Online - Browser Games - Δωρεάν παιχνίδια - Το πρώτο ανεξάρτητο ελληνικό portal για free games online. Παίξτε δωρεάν... freegamesonline.grtitle>
Something within your Joomla software is causing the title to be presented as the title and the meta description combined.
I notice with your screenshot that is not a native Joomla screen. I presume you are using a SEO extension already. It is likely a setting is off within that extension. I would suggest visiting the forums of the extension's creator and asking them why your title and meta descriptions are being merged.
The good thing is you are using the proper tools on your site and discovering issues which need to be fixed. The solution in this case depends on discovering how this problem began in the first place. This seems to be the result of either an issue with an SEO extension, or someone manually modified one of the php page templates for your site.

Sure, on every page actually. Eg this is how the mozbar sees the data from my main page
| Page Title | Free Games Online - Browser Games - Δωρεάν παιχνίδια - Το πρώτο ανεξάρτητο ελληνικό portal για free games online. Παίξτε δωρεάν... freegamesonline.gr | 150 |
| Meta Description | Το πρώτο ανεξάρτητο ελληνικό portal για free games online. Παίξτε δωρεάν παιχνίδια στα ελληνικά. |Do you see that the meta description is part of the page title, although on Joomla these are two seperate fields. I attached a screenshot for you to see how it looks like.

Google Results Title vs My Page Title
I'm having some trouble with my titles of a new site, it has been online for around two months now and i'm getting weird titles from most indexed pages. Since my site is focused on finding courses, the course title format is the following: URL: https://www.maseducacion.com/estudios/programacion-curricular--tecnigrap-2982

My Title: Course - Institute | Mybrand
Google Search Title: Course - Institute | Mybrand - Educativa Half of my results have that word at the end, don't know where it comes from, that word is only included in two links. Any idea on how to fix it?0 -
Duplicate content: using the robots meta tag in conjunction with the canonical tag?
We have a WordPress instance on an Apache subdomain (let's say it's blog.website.com) alongside our main website, which is built in Angular. The tech team is using Akamai to do URL rewrites so that the blog posts appear under the main domain (website.com/more-keywords/here). However, due to the way they configured the WordPress install, they can't do a wildcard redirect under htaccess to force all the subdomain URLs to appear as subdirectories, so as you might have guessed, we're dealing with duplicate content issues. They could in theory do manual 301s for each blog post, but that's laborious and a real hassle given our IT structure (we're a financial services firm, so lots of bureaucracy and regulation). In addition, due to internal limitations (they seem mostly political in nature), a robots.txt file is out of the question. I'm thinking the next best alternative is the combined use of the robots meta tag (no index, follow) alongside the canonical tag to try to point the bot to the subdirectory URLs. I don't think this would be unethical use of either feature, but I'm trying to figure out if the two would conflict in some way? Or maybe there's a better approach with which we're unfamiliar or that we haven't considered?

Setting title tag with javascript/jquery
Hi there, I'm looking for some advice. I've recently implemented a few jQuery functions which gets specific content from the page and then sets the title and description. See working example here. It seems to work fine but my question I have is whether Google bots can read it and whether it might actually hinder my SEO efforts? Any advice would be really appreciated! Peter

Use of title tags on divs for SEO purposes
Hello community, I recently was asked by a client to analyze a website of a competitor. I did was he asked me to do but when I looked at the source code of the website I found this code: I changed the exact words into something for privacy reasons, but I never looked at a code like this.

Using a div for an anchor I get but adding a title tag to the div? I never seen that before. Title tags on anchors, yes, using images in divs as background and then adding a title??? Does anyone have any experience with a code like this and if you do how does this impact rankings? Does it impact rankings at all and does anybody know of any correlation between the two? Looking forward for your responses. Regards Jarno0 -
Canonical tag or 301
Hi, Our crawl report is showing duplicate content. some of the report I am clear about what to do but on others I am not. Some of the duplicate content arises with a 'theme=default' on the end of the URL. Is this version of a page necessary for people to see when they visit the site (like a theme=print page is) in which case I think we should use a canonical tag, or is it not necessary in which case we should use a 301? Thanks

Titles in google serps incorrect
If you do the following query in google: site:orlandovisiting.com legend sparrow You'll see in the results the title appears as: legend-captain-jack-sparrow-1149.html Where the title tag in the source is: <title>The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow Opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studiostitle> Eventually it normally rights itself, but does anyone else get this with their sites? Thanks.

H1 Tag.
As far as I know to rank well H1 tag should be present in all pages and it should be one of the first things in the page, it also should include the keywords. I was checking my site and magento generates the H1 with an image, www.theprinterdepo.com I dont know if this is wise? class="logo">The Printer Depo<a <span="">href</a><a <span="">="</a>http://www.theprinterdepo.com/" title="The Printer Depo" class="logo">width="377px" src="https://www.theprinterdepo.com/skin/frontend/default/MAG060062/images/logo.gif" alt="The Printer Depo" />

Best Joomla SEO Extensions?
My website is a Joomla based website. My designer is good, but I don't think he knows that much about SEO . . . so I doubt if he added any extensions that can assist with SEO. I assume there are some good ones that can help my site. Does anyone know what/which Joomla extensions are must haves?
