Rel Canonical - Wordpress

How do you fix the rel canonical issue on a wordpress site? Is there a quick fix? I have a few notices on my site and am a little confused.

I have this too with SEO ultimate. Using the On page grader it tells me that I need to use only one canonical URL tag.
SEO ultimate shows that its all there but the report saying there is a problem. I have also disabled some author achiving. Any thoughts?

A notice is just that -- it's a notice that "hey, this is here, make sure you want it here" and it's not a warning. Feel free to ignore it if it's set up the way you want it to.

Hi all,
I see this is an old post, but I figured I would search before posting something new.
I am having a similar issue with a site we just launched a few weeks ago.
We cleared out the few errors we had at launch and are now working on the warnings and notices that SEOmoz is reporting.
Specifically the REL Canonical notices.
We are using Yoast SEO plugin and when I view the source of my page, I see the tag.
Is there something else that could be causing SEOmoz to show this as a notice when it really is not?

A Swanson customer! Pleased to meet you, even if you are 'the masked man' for now. Again, I can't recommend that Yoast SEO plug-in linked above enough. It outlines all of the options above and all you need to do to block indexing is check a simple box.
Take a look at the Wordpress SEO guide, specifically at the section I just linked to.

Alright I can try that. Is there a web resource that you or anyone recommends that talks specifically about this issue in depth? Specifically even wordpress since it seems alot of sites use wordpress now.

It sounds like you might need to use the noindex, follow tag for some sections of your website. Consider blocking the search engines from ranking sections such as author posts, tags, date and date archives.
Proceed with caution when doing this. You don't want to restrict all indexation of your site. Without knowing more details of what is actually happening, this is the best information I can give you.

Using rel=canonical suggests to search engines which URL should be seen as canonical.
It is a crawl notice on my campaign. It is happening on about 13 pages? I have SEO Ultimate and have the Canonicalizer options checked, but still receive the error. I don't want to be punished for duplicate content, but with wordpress that seems pretty hard. I guess I need some direction on best practices for removing duplicate content also.
There are blog posts which hold the original good content, but then the blog "page" that pulls in all the blog posts and displays them on one screen. Also on the front page I am pulling in the new posts and showing an excerpt or a 200~ character limit excerpt. Already there is 3 copies of the same content. I am sure their is more if i looked around.
I guess that is what I mean. 1) Clear up the issue on my crawl diagnostics with SEOmoz. 2) Get this figured out so I can create new content in the future without it happening again

More details would be very appreciated, but like Paul said, most likely it's an issue that can be easily fixed by installing Yoast's Wordpress SEO plugin.

Actually, when you say the Canonical problem. What do you mean? What is the problem?

Can I canonical the same page?
I have a site where I have 500+ Page listing pages and I would like to rel=canonical them to the master page. Example: http://www.example.com//articles?p=18 OR http://www.example.com/articles?p=65 I plan on adding this to the section from of the page template so it goes to all pages - When I do this, I will also add the canonical to the page I am directing the canonical. Should I implement pagination(rel=next, rel=prev) if I have duplicate meta tags?
Hi, I just want to ask if it is necessary to implement pagination(rel=next, rel=prev) to my category pages because Google webmaster tools is telling me that these pages are having similar meta title and meta description. Canonical Question
Our site has thousands of items, however using the old "Widgets" analogy we are unsure on how to implement the canonical tag, and if we need to at all. At the moment our main product pages lists all different "widget" products on one page, however the user can visit other sub pages that filter out the different versions of the product. I.e. glass widgets (20 products)

etc.... I.e. plastic widgets (70 products)
plastic blue widgets (50 products)
plastic red widgets (20 products)
etc.... As the sub pages are repeating products from the main widgets page we added the canonical tag on the sub pages to refer to the main widget page. The thinking is that Google wont hit us with a penalty for duplicate content. As such the subpages shouldnt rank very well but the main page should gather any link juice from these subpages? Typically once we added the canonical tag it was coming up to the penguin update, lost a 20%-30% of our traffic and its difficult not to think it was the canonical tag dropping our subpages from the serps. Im tempted to remove the tag and return to how the site used to be repeating products on subpages.. not in a seo way but to help visitors drill down to what they want quickly. Any thoughts on the EzineArticles plugin for WordPress? I read that it provides "the ability to simultaneously publish new posts to the web and submit them as articles to EzineArticles.com" Could this lead to duplicate content penalties?

Duplicate canonical URLs in WordPress
Hi everyone, I'm driving myself insane trying to figure this one out and am hoping someone has more technical chops than I do. Here's the situation... I'm getting duplicate canonical tags on my pages and posts, one is inside of the WordPress SEO (plugin) commented section, and the other is elsewhere in the header. I am running the latest version of WordPress 3.1.3 and the Genesis framework. After doing some testing and adding the following filters to my functions.php: <code>remove_action('wp_head', 'genesis_canonical'); remove_action('wp_head', 'rel_canonical');</code> ... what I get is this: With the plugin active + NO "remove action" - duplicate canonical tags

With the plugin disabled + A "remove action" - no canonical tag I have tried using only one of these remove_actions at a time, and then combining them both. Regardless, as long as I have the plugin active I get duplicate canonical tags. Is this a bug in the plugin, perhaps somehow enabling the canonical functionality of WordPress? Canonical on ecommerce site
I have read tons of guides about canonical implementaiton but still am confused about how I should best use it. On my site with tens of thousands of urls and thousands of afiiliates and shopping networks sending traffic, is it smart to simply add the tag to every page and redirect to the same url. In doing this would that solve the problem of a single page having many different entrances with different tracking codes? Is there a better way to handle this? Also is there any potential problems with rolling out the tag to all pages if they are simply refrencing themselves in the tag? Thanks in advance.
