How to Stop SEOMOZ from Crawling a Sub-domain without redoing the whole campaign?
-
I am using SEOMOZ for a client to track their website's performance and fix any errors and issues.
A few weeks ago, they created a sub-domain (sub.example.com) to create a niche website for some of their specialized content.
However, when SEOMOZ re-crawled the main domain (example.com), it also reported the errors for the subdomain.
Is there any way to stop SEOMOZ from crawling the subdomain and only crawl the main domain? I know that can be done by starting a new campaign, but is there any way to work around an existing campaign?
I'm asking because we would like to avoid the setting up the campaign again and losing the historical data as well.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Thank you for the reply! I'll definitely be taking your advice on this one.
Thanks again!

Thanks for jumping in with an answer Sha. I second that this is something you'll need to work with the help desk directly to solve, if it can be solved.

Hi John,
Since your campaign is set up using the root domain, all subdomains will automatically be included. The only possible way that you may be able to remove the subdomain from the crawl would be to use robots.txt to specifically block mozbot from crawling it. However, if you do this, then it will not be possible to access the information for the subdomain separately.
So, what you are really asking is whether the subdomain can be split into a separate campaign without you having to start from scratch. I suspect the answer is no (certain things, like keywords may not be relevant anyway).
The only way to get a definitive answer on whether it can be done would be to email the SEOmoz help team direct - help [at] seomoz.org.
Hope that helps,
Sha

SeoMoz: Competitive domain analysis report doesn't add up?
Hi, When I check OSE against the Competitive Domain Analysis report in my account the numbers are way off. If the CDA report was 100%, OSE is showing 30% of that. I'm looking at linking root domains with no filters applied. Is the data not pulled from the same db? Thanks.

SEO Crawl Report Images?
Does SEOMOZ crawl images in the report? Raven tools is showing me about 200 missing alt tags and title tags. I can not seem to find any of this information on the SEOMOZ report. Am I missing something?

Why do you call it a Campaign?
I'm trying out PRO and have a simple question. Why do you call the main organizational unit in this tool a "Campaign"? "Campaign" makes me think of advertising or direct mail - run over a specific period of time to a specific audience. But, "Campaign" in SEOmoz PRO seems to mean a collection of keywords plus a domain. Is the idea that I'm investing time an money in this collection of keywords in some sort of a structured campaign (using SEO techniques) and then using PRO to track performance against a baseline? By the way, the tool seems great and I love the useful data it provides. I guess I'm really trying to understand the SEO mindset the underpins the design of PRO. Thanks for any help!

Slowing down SEOmoz Crawl Rate
Is there a way to slow down SEOmoz crawl rate? My site is pretty huge and I'm getting 10k pages crawled every week, which is great. However I sometimes get multiple page requests in one second which slows down my site a bit. If this feature exists I couldn't find it, if it doesn't, it's a great idea to have, in a similar way to how Googlebot do it. Thanks.

Is seomoz rogerbot only crawling the subdomains by links or as well by id?
I´m new at seomoz and just set up a first campaign. After the first crawling i got quite a few 404 errors due to deleted (spammy) forum threads. I was sure there are no links to these deleted threads so my question is weather the seomoz rogerbot is only crawling my subdomains by links or as well by ids (the forum thread ids are serially numbered from 1 to x). If the rogerbot crawls as well serially numbered ids do i have to be concerned by the 404 error on behalf of the googlebot as well?

Can I exclude a sub-domain from SEOMoz campaigns?
We have recently implemented a white label site that is on a sub-domain. The site employs noindex on most of the pages I imagine due to duplicate content concerns on other white label versions of the site. It has led to a spike of over 14 thousand notices on our report. Is there a way to exclude a sub-domain from the SEOMoz scans and reports?

How to setup campaign
Is it better to specify www.site.com or *site.com for SEO Moz campaign? assuming that I do not have any subdomains except www, in the Web Master tools I have selected preferred address as www.site.com and I have redirect in my .htaccess from site.com to www.site.com The reason I am asking is because I see different SeoMoz trust and other stats for root domain and www subdomain. I would think they should be the same, given the fact that I only use www?

Crawl Errors Confusing Me
The SEOMoz crawl tool is telling me that I have a slew of crawl errors on the blog of one domain. All are related to the MSNbot. And related to trackbacks (which we do want to block, right?) and attachments (makes sense to block those, too) ... any idea why these are crawl issues with MSNbot and not Google? My robots.txt is here: http://www.wevegotthekeys.com/robots.txt. Thanks, MJ
