Is the frontpage/deeplinking ratio of backlinks an important ranking factor?
-
Hi,
i am asking me since a while, if the relation of the amount of frontpage backlinks divided through the amount of deeplinks pointing to a domain is an important ranking factor?
In this area, i am not so much looking in the total numbers of backlinks, but more at the number of linking root domains.
Do you have explore the ratio of frontpage/deeplinking as ranking factor reqarding the 100% of external backlinks?
So for example, what do you consider better, asuming all root linking domains in theory are equal, for the SERP of the main keyword for which the frontpage is running on Google.
Case A
Frontpage = 80 Linking Domains
Subpages = 20 Linking Domains80 / 20 = 4 / 1 (4 times more frontpage linking domains than deep linking domains to subpages)
Case B
Frontpage = 90 Linking Domains
Subpages = 10 Linking Domains90 / 10 = 9 / 1 (9 times more frontpage linking domains than deep linking domains to subpages)
Case C
Frontpage = 95 Linking Domains
Subpages = 5 Linking Domains95 / 5 = 19 / 1 (19 times more frontpage linking domains than deep linking domains to subpages)

I was looking at competitors to see why they were outperforming us in some areas. We convert mostly from returning visitors who have either searched for variations of our brand or searched for a specific brand or product we sell. We rank well for those terms, but also need traffic from some high-volume competitive generic terms to bring customers into our conversion funnel. Our sites don't yet rank highly enough for some of these funnel-entry terms due to weaknesses in external link networks. I don't have time to replicate the quantity of links some of our competitors have, so am looking to beat them on quality instead.

Hi,
thanks, all what you are saying is perfectly right.
But if you looked in the past of your competition, if they have had a higher ratio of deep backlinks to home page backlinks than your site, and assuming they have had similar sources than you in this time, were their websites outperfoming you?
-
I gave this some thought when I looked at our competition for some of our most important keywords - I noticed many of them seemed to have a high ratio of deep backlinks to home page backlinks. Rather than trying to work out the perfect ratio I had a think about the contexts in which home page links and deep links are natural. For example, a home page link from a reputable directory would usually be more natural than a deep link. Conversely, an editorial link coming from a blog about a specific product or product type would look more natural as a deep link to the most relevant page.
Taking this train of thought to the next station, a backlink profile of all directory links would look unnatural, but then again so might nothing but editorial links from blogs. I suspect the optimum "natural" link profile varies according to the field of interest and the function of the website. For example, you might expect the link profile of a reputable retail site to include a lot of relevant directories, consumer review sites and blogs & forums which talk about the products the site sells.
I know you're looking for more of a numbers-based answer, but I think this is an area where it makes sense to stand back and ask what sort of links you should be seeing if the site is any good. Then make it a priority to get those types of links with due consideration for the metrics.

Hi,
thanks, yes this logical and that is what i do also in my link building strategies.
But my point here is another. Besides for ranking the internal pages, i am observing the effect that a good amount of deep links helps the ranking terms of the frontpage.
What i mean, that if you link 100% with SEO to homepage.com, the frontpage will be underperform with "SEO" as if you link 90% with SEO and 10% goes to internal pages with SEM homepage.com/sem, second keyword to homepage.com/second_keyword, etc.
I am wondering what relation is the best to have a "natural" link profile.
Greetings,

HI!
Honestly I never done an experiment to check out if there's a correlation between the ratio of "frontpage/deeppages" links...
But I think it should be logical.
If a site own many deep links, the overall domain metrics will be higher. More over, the redistribution of juice will be better, therefore your internal pages (the not directly linked ones) will have a higher opportunity to rank better than sites whose link juice flows just from the head to the bottom of the URL architecture.

Keyword are not ranking
Hello, Recently We have a taken a project " http://customerconnect-services.com/ " and are responsible for the Digital Marketing for the website. FYI, we have been following the best On-Page SEO practices ever since we took the project: Performing Keyword Research, Finalizing the Keywords,Using those in the Page-Title, Meta-Descriptions, Heading Tags and of course in the Content as per MOZ suggestions & SEO standards. But, we are unable to rank in first page; all the considered keywords have a ranking of 51+ which is a serious matter of concern for us. We have also checked whether the Domain / URL has been blacklisted, but it's not (Not even by Google). We are therefore unable to figure out what is going wrong even after following so many best practices to get the keywords a good ranking (1st & 2nd page of SERPs). Therefore I would like to request you to provide your expert opinions in this regard by checking what is it that we are not getting right. The website is euro t20 slam As this is a high-priority issue for us & the client is a prestigious one of course, please help.Looking forward to hearing from you at the earliest.

Good or Bad Backlinks
Hi All We are trying to go through all of our backlinks to see which links are good and which are bad. We are using two paid for tools to find our backlinks and sort them out, either good or bad. I have found that both tools have returned links as being good even though the links are not indexed by Google and have no page rank. Also we have found that both tools returns some links as good even though the links are pointing to a 404 page. Any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated.

.edu backlinks.. where to point them for a scholarship
Hello, My company offers an annual college scholarship to Women in Business. I have numerous colleges that have agreed to post our scholarship on their college websites. I want to make sure I get the full value of the .edu backlink and need some advice. I have a brand new scholarship page with no authority and that's basically orphaned from the rest of the website. This page details the application process for the scholarship. If I were to link out to my home page, and say 3-4 other top landing pages, would this be the best way to flow some of that link juice into my site? Or is there a better way to do this? Another thought I had was this.... I could take one of my top landing pages, www.example.com/example, and place the scholarship information on that page at the bottom, and have the school link to this: www.example.com/example#scholarship (so the scholarship info appears on top when applicants click it)-- My question here is this... becase the second URL includes an anchor, does google treat that as a different page? Or would the pagerank flow to www.example.com/example ? Recovering from unnatural link warnings and algorthmic penalties and trying to get the best benefit out of the new, quality links I'm building. Any advise would be appreciated! THANKS!

Adding backlinks in old articles?
I am trying to get a few more links to get a few of my pages to rank and I am thinking about adding some more backlinks on my own site on some of the old blog articles as well as some of my other related blogs. My question is - is it still beneficial to link from these articles that are say 1 year old or more, or would it be far more valuable to write new articles on the blog containing those same links?

How to Check the Amount of Deep Backlinks?
I'm thinking about checking the amount of deep backlinks on my site because I have a hunch that I don't have enough of them. Now, the problem is that I have no idea what tool (on-line or offline) I need to use. I did some Google research but it did not give me any results.
