Avoiding keyword stuffing and self cannibalization
-
Hi, I am creating an e-commerce website and will obviously have a number of category pages i.e. T-Shirts. Each category then has a number of products with the word t-shirt mentioned in the name i.e. red t-shirt, blue t-shirt. Now obviously I would like to search engine the category page with the keyword t-shirt but how do I go about avoiding keyword stuffing as well as self-cannibalization?
-
i found the ref to how to use the url attribute
http://schema.org/docs/gs.html#schemaorg_expected
see "Using the url property"
-
i see, Seomoz does not have the budget of google and its tools while probly the best set there is online, can only do so much. My thoughts are still the same, but i have an idea that will help.
go to http://schema.org/ and look for the product schema and mark each product up as a product, all major search engines respect this schema, i am quite sure they will then see that each product is just that an indervidual product.
note that it will indicate that on your category page you should use the url attribute to point to the actual product page, and on the product page you should also mark up the product with the schema also.
I think if you give it a read you will see what i mean

Hi Alan thank you for your response yes I presumed that would be the case however when I ran it through the seo-moz on page analysis tool it stated that the only issue on the category page was self self-cannibalization and keyword stuffing!
Thanks for your response!

I would be more worried about stuffing into one tag, not so much how many products have t-shirts in the name.
dont have a H1 with "t-shirt t-shirt t-shirt t-shirt t-shirt", but i think it is ok to have several tags each with t-shirt in there sonewhere. It is quite exspected and natural to have several producst with simular names.
As for self canibalization, picture this, you have a category page, with links to t-shirt produits with "t-shirt " in the link text, but on each product page you have a link pointing to your category page with t-shirts in the link text, you will actauly rasie the PR for the catagory page as well as give relevance for the term t-shirt to the category page.

Value of using spaces or no spaces on product category page varient keywords
Hello, all fellow Mozzers,
On-Page Optimization | | JamesDavison
I have taken over a project and this account, so can't change the username according to MOZ.🙃 We run an eCommerce website, and to me, some of the content is conflicting as some pages have more information content than what I would put in a commerce page, but this is how the boss wants it to work, personally, I would separate the content out.
The page I'm working on:
https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/tyres/205-70-14.html
and this is an example of the rest of these types of pages, I will be tackling:
https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/tyres/125-15.html I was tasked to improve SEO ranking, when using the MOZ page grader I had a score of 24 out of 27 83% SEO score and 3-page problems. 7th position in Google for the search term 205/70 R14 As it is a generic product listing page, It was pointless to add to the URL and the Internal links I can't reduce as these are links to products, so I went to reduce the
keyword stuffing and making the page content more natural, this improved the page to 25 out of 27, 87% SEO score and 2-page problems. Improvement to 3rd position in Google, but he wants to chase 1st place to be above his competitors, which is fair enough. It turns out that in the past, they have used this type of page to try and get a high ranking for several search terms, as it is a different variation on a tyre size terms are:
205/70 R14, 205/70R14, 205/70 R 14
205/70 X 14, 205/70X14, 205/70 X14
and so on for all the different ways you can search for this tyre size. He is also convinced Google will see these as different search terms, and while I agree to an extent, this causes Keyword Stuffing on the page, which in turn was harming the rankings. Each product listed on the page already has its own title 205/70 R14, 205/70 HR14 and so on, so my question is. What is the best practice for writing content on these types of pages to gain high rankings for several Keywords, and what value does writing the same keyword with spaces and no spaces have? Any help or advice is welcome, so I have a better understanding of how to approach this for this page and the rest of the site. Cheers Mal0 -
Front page, keyword strategi?
Hi, Should the front page target a mixture of the most important keywords for the whole site (on page optimization)
On-Page Optimization | | Agguk
Or should we choose 1 or a few that are extra important/natural and optimize for this?
Each important keyword already has it´s own dedicated page (single keyword optimized)
...so either way the front page would "compete" against another internal page on a specific keyword, but maybe that´s the wrong way of looking at this?
Almost all external backlinks are pointing to the front page so I guess that´s the real strength of the front page but it does not provide in depth good value for a specific keyword. Thanks!/Anders0 -
New to MOZ and so far love tools but need some quick tips on title, keywords and descriptions
First of all:
On-Page Optimization | | nickcargill
I am excited about using all the MOZ tools! I just got back my webcrawl and have found
a lot of issues that I am working on. I am a Vacation Rental Property Manager with 150 properties, all different. 90% of my pages have the same keywords and descriptions and a lot of same page titles
too. I can change all of these by adding a few fields in my database and then
populating the meta information dynamically. For Example: <title>Big Bear Cabins | Big Bear Cabin Rentals - Chateau Alta Vista Cabin</title>
Chateau Alta Vista, Big Bear Cabins, Big Bear Cabin Rentals
Chateau ALta vista is a Big Bear Cabin with four bedrooms, three
bathrooms, it is Big Bear Luxury Property. If you notice the Title, keyword are dynamically populated from the database using the
property name of Chateau Alta Vista. The description is an extra field in the database that I just implemented that I can customize per property. I have a few questions, but here is more information: I also have 5 or 6 related pages
to each property. Pages Like general information, photos, calendars, book
Question 1): Is the best way of doing my titles, keywords and descriptions. Any concerns or recommendations. I have read, do not even use keywords anymore. Question 2) I have other pages that show maybe 8 or 10 photos. So is it ok to do the following; Title <photos of="" big="" bear="" cabin="" chateu="" alta="" vista<="" title="">Meta Keywords <photos of="" big="" bear="" cabins="" chateu="" alta="" vista="">Meta Description <check out="" photos="" of="" big="" bear="" cabin="" rentals,="" chateua="" <br="">Alta Vista, etc Currently, I have some archaic page naming with database driven url parameters such as</check></photos></photos> http://destinationbigbear.com/property_Detail_v.aspx?propid=669 and at worse http://destinationbigbear.com/Property_detail_v.aspx?propid=669&rate= $1,127.10&checkoutdate=07/13/2014&beds=4&firstnight=07/11/2014&nights=2 I do not have he ability to to full url encoding such as http://destinationbigbear.com/cabins/chateau-alta-vista but I can do http:/www.destinationbigbear.com/big-bear-cabin-info.aspx?cabin=chateau%alta%vista Question is what do I do... If I do change the page names I will lose the history of property_detail_V.aspx which only has a Page Authority of 21, but if I change the page name and dynamic navigation of my website will I not lose all my authorities, if so, is it worth doing it? My highest keyword ranking is 30 which is terrible. Nick0 -
One or two keywords/pages
Hi, I have a question about good keyword practice. I have a page: http://www.holdnyt.dk/skader-karantaener/fodbold/england-premier-league It lists all injuries ("skader" in danish) and suspensions ("karantaener" in danish) for the english premier league in football/soccer. On the page one can choose to show only injuries OR suspensions, which have their own URLs: http://www.holdnyt.dk/skader-karantaener/fodbold/england-premier-league/skader http://www.holdnyt.dk/skader-karantaener/fodbold/england-premier-league/karantaener My question is - what is best. To optimize the first URL (the more general one) to fit both of the following keywords:
On-Page Optimization | | rasmusbang
"skader premier league" and "karantaener premier league" OR should i focus on optimizing the two latter URLs, the more specfiic to target the two keywords. Regards, Rasmus0 -
Over stuffing?
My website Simple Living With God is simplelivingwithgod.com. The plan is to title everything this way because I want to rank high for "Simple Living" "Appropriate Page or Post Title - Simple Living With God" Is that reasonable? A further question - for pages that have Simple Living in the title would it be considered over stuffing to have the brand afterwards also? For example on a page where I want the keyword phrase to be "simple living quotes" which is the best approach for title / url? Title a) "Simple Living Quotes - Simple Living with God" b) "Quotes - Simple Living with God" c) "Simple Living Quotes" Url a) http://simplelivingwithgod.com/simple-living-quotes b) http://simplelivingwithgod.com/quotes

Does keyword usage in the footer have an effect on how high a page ranks?
My client has a lot of text about their company in their footer. Is the text in the footer associated with the on page keyword usage and density for all pages or none of the pages?

Keyword reversal
Suppose you want a page in your website to rank for a two word phrase like "red wagon". So you create a page mywebsite.com/redwagon.html and optimize it for "red wagon". Suppose the domain name redwagon.com is taken, but the domain name wagonred.com is available. Is it possible to take advantage of the available domain name wagonred.com to improve the rank of mywebsite.com/redwagon.html?
