Links in Open Site Explorer turning into downloads
-
Hey guys. This is my first question on here so hello
I have noticed recently a couple of times in Open Site Explorer, when I am checking out links, they are direct download links. The two I have noticed are flash files and with one companies links, dropbox related.
Can anyone shed any light on this? I am pretty new to SEO and find it really confusing.
Thanks in advance

As far as I know it's accurate. Send an email to help@seomoz.org with a couple of examples and they can help you sort it out.

actually Keri, do you know if the last linkscape update was accurate? A couple of my sites I notice are not even showing any of the internal links to pages from the blog that were created within the last 3 months.....

Thanks Keri. I do remember seeing something about that actually but thanks for clarifying.

Hi Nextman,
You actually found a bug in Open Site Explorer that we are in the process of fixing. Binary files are mistakenly being counted as links. It's a known problem and is already being reduced, but you'll still see some of these for the next couple of months. Here's what Rand has to say about it as part of his larger post about the Linkscape Update.
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/november-2011-linkscape-update
As I noted in the September index update, we have had some serious issues when crawling deeper on large domains and encountering binary files that contain code our crawler recognizes and treats as a link. To help stop this problem, we applied a black list to this index to stop a large number of the files folks had reported to us (our estimate is that ~40% of binary files are now removed). However, we know there's still more than a few of these in the database of links so we'll continue cranking away on solutions to remove them all. Our hope is to have them reduced in the next index (November) and nearly eliminated by the December index. If you're ever curious about the next/previous updates, you can always see data for them on our Linkscape calendar.

How can I download all the inbound links to my Site?
Hi, From Site Explorer, I want to download all the inbound links linking to my site: www.comm100.com/livechat/. But it seems that there is a limitation. I can only download a part of the inbound links? What should I do? Or is it because my account is free trial? Do I have to pay for it? Please help. Thanks,

Compare link metrics - What time frame is this in?
Hi, I'm comparing three sites and one of them I know is quite popular however a few of the social statistics are puzzling me; they've got a small amount of Facebook likes and times shared on twitter - Which just can't be right if it's all time. What's the time frame of this data? The last three months or? Thanks, Dan

Missing Juicy link finder
Hello, In the past, I was using two tools mainly: Keyword difficulty and the Juicy link finder. Buit Juicy Link Finder does not exist anymore and I miss it 😞 Any of you are missing it also? Do any of you who were using that tool have found a new tool to do the same good job than what Juicy Link Finder was doing? Thanks Nancy

No follow link
Hi There, We pay for our site (www.residentialland.com) to appear on a popular property site: http://www.homesandproperty.co.uk/ When I use Open Site Explorer, it is our top link, but it has 'no follow' above it. So I had a look at the source code on the homesandproperty website and I cant see any nofollow code that would effect our link. I also used this tool which confirmed it isnt classed as a no follow link: http://www.seorankings.com/tools/nofollow-link-checker Can anyone else tell me if our paid for link on homesandproperty is a no follow, or if it is 'search engine friendly' so to speak? We pay for links across their site, so we want to get the full benefit. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks, Rob

What is taking OSE so long to update? The update schedule said the next update was going to be on Dec 28th.

If you open OSE it says "Last Index Update: November 28th, 2011" Today in January 1st. Any thoughts as to why the delay?0 -
