Simon has given great advice.
SEOmoz provides information that can give you the knowledge to become a great SEO. SEOmoz also provides data that can guide you in doing SEO for your website.
However, it is up to YOU to do the learning, up to you to do the analysis and up to you to do the work required to build a great site and market it.
If you are in an easy industry or industry niche you might have success if you study, learn, implement and work hard. However, there are industries that are very competitive and success there is very difficult. If you are working alone in these areas and without resources to hire assistance you will have difficulty succeeding unless you are very smart and work very hard.
SEOmoz can give you all of the information and data that you need to succeed. It is up to you to apply it and decide if you can compete in your niche.

For somebody new to SEO, there is a great guide available at http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo
Your website looks great, is certainly in a competitive space though, ranking for generic keywords will be difficult. I'd suggest doing some keyword research around longtail keywords, which in time can lead to supporting the more generic higher volume keywords.
In terms of how SEOmoz could help you in improving your rankings, there are some great Research tools available, have a look at http://www.seomoz.org/tools
Keyword Analysis, Crawl Test, On-page Analysis and Link Analysis in particular will be helpful for you.
There is a 30 day free trial available for the tools, give it a go and see how you get on. That guide would be a good read beforehand.
Regards
Simon

Google shutting down Rank Tracking Software? - Raven and AHREFS close down ranking results.
Hi, I was wondering if other people had noticed the (very sudden) closing down of the ranking tools for both Raven and Ahrefs - both of which were major parts of their software. Given the sudden and synced timing my guess is that Google is throwing its weight around and banking on the doors of companies offering ranking software with the threat of a fat lawsuite! What is everyone else using for their rank checking ? Will this impact SEOMOZ ranking results ?

Why are SEOmoz Pro Keyword Ranking reports different between two 301-linked URLs?
Hi, My main domain is www.dancenut.com. I have this 301 URL redirected to www.dancenut.com/boston/. I set up an SEOmoz Pro campaign for each of these URLs in order to see if they were being treated differently in any way. In most cases the report results are identical, or the small differences are understandable. However, there is one big difference between the two sets of campaign reports. In the Keyword Ranking reports, the data for the Bing and Yahoo! reports are identical, but the data for the Google reports are dramatically different. Out of 21 keywords, 9 are listed in the top 50 for www.dancenut.com, but only 2 are listed in the top 50 for www.dancenut.com/boston/ (the specific positions are the same for the 2 keywords that are listed for both). Does this make any sense? Could the SEOmoz Pro data be wrong? If not, then I'm suspicious that Google may not be interpreting the 301 redirect properly. I don't think this could be fully explained by a 1-10% reduction in link juice due to the 301 because I have one keyword for which my site ranks #1 in Google, Bing, and Yahoo! with www.dancenut.com, but it doesn't even rank in the top 50 in Google with www.dancenut.com/boston/. And why would these differences only exist for Google? Any insight would be much appreciated! Andrew
