Local search block seems to mess up ranking calculations!
-
Time and time again i see SEO moz come out with a new rankings report and tell me that I've gone up or down in the rankings by 9 and I get really excited. Then i go look at the search and once agian we are in the exact same position! What it seems like is sometimes SEO Moz decides to count the local search block, and other times it decides not too. Is there any way to fix this? To make it always count the local search block would be preferred.
-
I have noticed this myself. Very annoying especially with my business depending on it!
-
No, but i know what you mean, not only may you be in it or out of it, they may nott display local at all for the same query.
-
Thanks!
Any idea why google seems to flip flop between those two local search blocks so much? I have noticed it change almost on a daily basis for some keywords and keyword combinations.
-
There are 2 types of local search block, the tight orginal box, i dont believe they count that, as it does not replace organic results. but the larger list with the larger serps does replace organics and i believe they do count that.
Your organic results may not be the same when in this larger block as oposed to normal organic results. But the alternitive is to say that you have droped out of rankings all together.
anyhow, you should get excited, you have moved up in reality.
I cant see an easy solutions

Discrepancy between backlinks (opensiteexplorer vs. search console)
Hey there, when I check in search console for "Links to your site" and "your most linked content" I see incoming links pointing to the wrong (country and language) subdirectory? When I check those same backlinks with opensiteexplorer they seem to point (after redirects) to the correct subdirectory. Anyone out there with similar experiences or thoughts on this? I would be happy to give access to search console if you wanted to have a look at this. Why my site so poorly ranks on Google
Hi 🙂 I hope you can help me for my site http://www.majordroid.com/ I really do not understand why my site so poorly ranks on Google. What can I do about that? Are there any errors or something? What can be done about that? Also when I go to the Moz Tools - Open Site Explorer to check how many backlinks I have... It says: 12 Total Links but according to the Google Webmaster tools I have in total 334 links and 138 links to the homepage. see attachment Why Open Site Explorer does not see all the links to my site, which is a possible reason? And last question, what I need to do to remove pages from Google search like this: /page/2. /page/3 and so on... Thank you 🙂 aK0x345.jpg

Ranking fluctuations from week to week
Over the past couple of months I have seen a couple of my campaigns have key phrases that change from week to week from being in the top 3 to being >51. I worked pretty hard on the sites to get them mostly #1 for their preferred key phrases, and haven't been working that hard lately, but not sure what to make of it. It looks as though those keyphrases that dropped this week to >51 will probably be back in the top 3. Makes it diffuclt when you are trying to prepare a report for your client. Any suggestions are welcomed, and Happy New Year!

Top ranking with no SEO
I ran an SEOMoz keyword difficulty report for the term "interim CFO services" and found that all of the websites that ranked really well for that term have good page authority and domain authority scores and plenty of incoming links.....except 1. result #5 has a page and domain authority of 1 and no incoming links, however it's ranked #5 in google SERP for this highly competitive term. see screenshots: http://screencast.com/t/NJiOn8N4l http://screencast.com/t/x6tU1RhX4j Is this ranking based solely on the domain name being 100% relevant? Did they just get lucky and hit the google rankings jackpot? If this is the case, by the same logic I am trying achieve high rankings for the keyword "outsourced accounting firm" and purchased the domain name outsourcedaccountingfirm.com and am not even ranked in the top 50 with google for that keyword. (it's very new though) any feedback on either questions above would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Started my first campaign - keyword rankings do not match
Hello, I started my first campaign on SEOmoz and my keword position do not match the results I receive by using google search or by using another SEO program. For example - Ingersoll Watches should be on position 6 on google.com - SEOmoz shows me Ingersoll Watches is on 16. Why does SEOmoz show different results? Thank you for your attention!

Why is a low ranking site outperforming a higher one?
Hi, I've got a question here that is more about learning than about rectifying this specific situation, as it is a low traffic (low dollar) situation. I would appreciate your help. Thanks, Ken The targeted long-tail is: carrollton ga internet marketing The targeted site is: http://www.kennethlewis.com/ Yet, when I run the keyword search I get this other site of mine, which is older, but has much worse metrics. http://www.breemawellness.com/ On this site, all I did was put a in-text link on it and added the keywords to my title tags. Open Site Explorer shows these metrics: KennethLewis.com 34, 23, 18, 98 vs. BreemaWellness 27, 15, 7, 10. Both are on the same server. Note: -Until two months ago the KennethLewis.com was only partially about Internet Marketing- mildly so, actually- and it was a 2-3 page iWeb not-optimized site. But BreemaWellness has never been about Internet Marketing, and those words were just added two months ago for the first time. -KennethLewis.com gets regular content changes, to the blog. BreemaWellness.com almost never gets touched. Thoughts?
