Do outbound links matter?

The value of inbound links is clear but do the number of outbound links matter when it comes to SEO and search engine rankings?

Let's imagine that you have three websites with identical articles - which are of very high quality...
Website A does not link out
Website B links out to a few trashy articles per page
Website C links out to articles on other websites that do a superior job of explaining a subtopic
Which one of these sites serves the visitor the best? Which one is most likely to receive links? Which one would you prefer?
Search engines should answer the same as you do.

The number doesn't matter as much as the quality of the pages you link to. Linking to relevant content your visitor probably wants to know about helps you:
first by showing google that you know what the authorities in your business are.Secondly by increasing users time on site and reducing your bounce rate, both of wich are (or will be) ranking signals. Lastly by giving your visitors a good experience on your page, thus building your brand.
The best pages to link to would be non-competing, supplemental information or "cool" stuff.

This has not been made clear, but Matt Cutts from google has stated it can help if you link out to relevant authortive sites.
but linking out leaks Link Juice, but the best i can understand from Matts commentts is that if the sites are relevant enouth and of good authority, the gain will outweigh the loss.
There is also an argumment about sites that do not link out at ll, as not being inclueded in PR calculations, so i would suggest at least one outlink.
A page with 100 LJ, and has a outlink, is giving away 100 to that site, but if you have 9 internal links on the page also, you ae only giving out 10 and keeping 90, there is also a bit of a skew on that as the first link carries more weight, and also where the link is in the page counts, the main content area carries the most wiegth.
Also consider the page you are linking out from, if it is a low rankking page, you are probably not giving away much
dont link to spam sites, that will hurt. This page will help a lot, but please disreagard the bit about in links cant hurt you, that is old info.

Would you pursue this paid directory link?
Hi all, I KNOW the hard and true answer to this, but I'm looking for deeper insights regarding Links like those contained on this page. I understand the by-the-book answer to this would be only pursue a paid link if it is "nofollowed" OR if it has the potential to bring in new business and traffic. My question is ....does a link like this actually pass SEO value? I see businesses killing it from an SEO standpoint with link profiles full of paid directory links like this. I also thought this conversation was more interested now that Google appears to devaluing links like this instead of issue penalties. Thoughts??

Will an inbound follow link on a site be devalued by an inbound affiliate link on the same site?
Hey guys, quick question I didn't find an answer to online. Scenario: 1. Site A links to Site B. It's a natural, regular, follow-link 2. Site A joins Site B's affiliate program, and adds an affiliate link Question: Does the first, regular follow link get devalued by the second affiliate link? Cheers!

Google Indexing Feedburner Links???
I just noticed that for lots of the articles on my website, there are two results in Google's index. For instance: http://www.thewebhostinghero.com/articles/tools-for-creating-wordpress-plugins.html and http://www.thewebhostinghero.com/articles/tools-for-creating-wordpress-plugins.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+thewebhostinghero+(TheWebHostingHero.com) Now my Feedburner feed is set to "noindex" and it's always been that way. The canonical tag on the webpage is set to: rel='canonical' href='http://www.thewebhostinghero.com/articles/tools-for-creating-wordpress-plugins.html' /> The robots tag is set to: name="robots" content="index, follow, noodp" /> I found out that there are scrapper sites that are linking to my content using the Feedburner link. So should the robots tag be set to "noindex" when the requested URL is different from the canonical URL? If so, is there an easy way to do this in Wordpress?

Clickable links in Google SERP
Hi, I came across clickable links appearing below the meta description in Google SERP. The links are not necessarily the top pages for that particular domain and sometimes tend to reflect the newly added stock. Is there a way to determine what factors account for this? Thanks, mryxN.png

Should I link my similar sites together?
Hi I currently have two sites within exactly the same market. I've just purchased a third website from someone. Should I link these sites together? (i.e. in the page header should I cross link them or point two of them to the third?) If I do this will it harm them if they are on the same C-Class IP blocks? Is using private domains and different hosting companies considered dodgey in any way? Basically I'm a big wimp and don't want to do anything potentially that might potentially hurt my rankings;)

Natural Link Profile, low and high value links, really?
I cant really get my head around this one. I've read a few times when building links make sure you pick up so low value links as well. So here is an example (and lets say each link takes half hour to get): I got 5 hours of link building and this is what I have managed to get with the time. 1. 10 high value links all with PA/DA 50-60+ 2. 5 high value links with PA/DA 50-60+ AND another 5 low value links with PA/DA 10-. Surely #1 beats #2 hands down?

Fading Text Links Look Like Spammy Hidden Links to a g-bot?
Ah, Hello Mozzers, it's been a while since I was here. Wanted to run something by you... I'm looking to incorporate some fading text using Javascript onto a site homepage using the method described here; http://blog.thomascsherman.com/2009/08/text-slideshow-or-any-content-with-fades/ so, my question is; does anyone think that Google might see this text as a possible dark hat SEO anchor text manipulation (similar to hidden links)? The text will contain various links (4 or 5) that will cycle through one another, fading in and out, but to a bot the text may appear initially invisible, like so; style="display: none;"><a href="">Link Here</a> All links will be internal. My gut instinct is that I'm just being stupid here, but I wanted to stay on the side of caution with this one! Thanks for your time 🙂 http://blog.thomascsherman.com/2009/08/text-slideshow-or-any-content-with-fades
