Google is wishy-washy on the answer to this, but Rand's answer is the one I lean on - https://moz.com/community/q/moz-s-official-stance-on-subdomain-vs-subfolder-does-it-need-updating
I think that's a great thread to review.

It's really a design exercise. You just put your dynamic span tags in the HTML positioned on top of the image.
There's a number of resources - this is one: http://www.the-art-of-web.com/css/textoverimage/
Good luck!
It can be done, but I would recommend the HTML overlay the graphic. Then users have the ability to click-and-dial direct in mobile.

10/22/2018 Leverage the Google Search Console API to get a ton of detailed data about your keywords without having to get too technical about it. Bill Sebald shares a straightforward shortcut using Google Sheets and the Supermetrics add-on.
6/14/2017 With all the obstacles of everyday SEO work, how can you build a strategy that lasts? Bill Sebald shares 5 considerations every strategy requires, how to map your course, and how to reset your frame of mind to do your best work in 2017.
6/8/2016 Digital marketing should never feel like grunt work, but it's a rut we've all fallen into. The best remedy? Getting inspired. Snap out of it with the best SEO, client management, and marketing advice you can get, all in 140 characters or less.
10/27/2015 Be honest: Are your recommendations based on true analysis, or a template you've become comfortable with? This piece by Bill Sebald will challenge you to think about how you value and use your time in Analytics, and provide useful Analytics examples.
11/25/2014 In consulting or any agency work, the concept of "partnership" should be the backbone of your business relationships. Like a puzzle piece, sometimes the fit is initially difficult to find, if available at all. The truth is, you're only secure if your clients are walking in the same direction as the flow of your service.
7/17/2014 A content strategy doesn't go far if it's phoned in. Take all the help you can get, even if it's from a competitor.

2/14/2014 Your shoppers deserve more. They can benefit from an experience, a human touch, and the feeling of knowing they're about to purchase from one of the most passionate retailers around. 5/10/2013 This is a post about how to choose better clients. It starts with introspection, and ends with a connection. For each of these tips, I’m thinking specifically of a client I let walk away. 3/20/2009 Here's something painfully obvious - it almost feels weird to type it: "SEOs and search marketers need to pay more attention than ever before and step up their game." Yes, I am the master of the obvious. But I'm also telling the truth - we're being counted on by our bosses and clients more than ever. We're being squeezed to produce more than we used to. In some cases, we're the last chance a faltering business has! We're getting worked hard.
Search Marketing addict.
