Canonical tag question
-
Suppose a site has two pages ( Page A ) and Page B. Both of them have pagerank, but duplicate content.
The page A is ranked for keyword "seo india" and page B is ranked for keyword "seo services".
If i implement canonical tag on page B, does
1. The pagerank of page B will be transfered to Page A ?
2. Does the site A now ranks for keyword "seo servicies " ( for which Page B was ranking earlier )
-
Google views the canonical tag as a hint, and reserves the right to ignore it if the pages don't look to be virtually identical in content, so it would depend in part on how much of the content is duplicate. If it's your own site, you can always give it a try and see. If it's a client site and they're depending on both pages ranking for conversions, I'd warn them first that you might lose the rankings from Page B.

I would agree with Stephen on point 1, but would throw the following thoughts in on point 2:
For example:
page A is mysite.com/seo-india
page B is mysite.com/seo-services
I would guess that there would be a minor difference in ranking impact on a couple of counts with respect to what phrase is ranked for in each case - despite having the same content.
Things to consider would be the url itself, the page title, the H1 and the metadescription.
I can't see that using a canon from one page to another will migrate additional ranking terms to the destination page in its own right - if you have links to page B with anchors that reflect the terms it might - but how long you would continue to rank for the additional term would be questionable.
If it was that simple to get the same page to rank for multiple terms just by duplicating content, linking to it, and then redirecting with the canon tag - I am sure google would get wise to that pretty quick, and there would be no end of "top secret ranking" mails doing the rounds from "SEO gurus"
Would be interesting to test though!

I am not sure if there is just a simple yes or no answer to your questions. It is hard to predict exactly to what the search engines will do and ranking will change.
1. It looks like the answer to this question is Yes. Here is a snippet for a Google Webmaster Blog article.
Additional URL properties, like PageRank and related signals, are transferred as well.
2. I can only assume the answer to this question would be yes too. I would assume that since both pages are identical and are on the same domain, page A would now rank the same as page B. It is hard to know for sure though. Sorry I can't be more definitive but Google is a complex animal.

Question about region codes and Hreflang?
A client (see example above) has accidentally place region codes into the hreflang when the content is intended for all audiences that speak the language. So "fr-fr" should really just be "fr" since those that are "fr-be", "fr-ca", and "fr-ch" should all be getting to the French version of the website too. And there isn't a specific subdirectory for French speakers in Belgium or France or Switzerland, etc. However, when looking at Google Analytics, these region codes don't seem to be stopping those from other regions from getting to the correct landing page. So a user from Belgium is still getting to https://www.example.com/fr/ depsite the "fr-fr" in the hreflang. So question: is it worth adjusting the hreflang to be non-region specific (from

Schema question
Hi all, We have two Trustpilot schemas (Local Business) on our web pages ( One on desktop / one on mobile) but we are finding that it is not updating the number of reviews in the search results. When using the tool : https://developers.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool/ , the test results are coming back ok. I have two ideas as to why it may not be working; 1) The duplication of the schema code is causing issues 2) We had to change the html code for all of our 50+ backend pages using a search&replace WordPress plugin to save a vast amount of time. Maybe this is plugin related? The fact that the google testing tool gives back positive results adds to the confusion. I test both of the theorised issues to see if it provides a fixes. Can anyone shed some further light on this issue? Is there something obvious I am missing? All responses are greatly appreciated! Thanks, Tom p.s. Will Canonical tag on parameter URLs remove those URL's from Index, and preserve link juice?
My website has 43,000 pages indexed by Google. Almost all of these pages are URLs that have parameters in them, creating duplicate content. I have external links pointing to those URLs that have parameters in them. If I add the canonical tag to these parameter URLs, will that remove those pages from the Google index, or do I need to do something more to remove those pages from the index? Ex: www.website.com/boats/show/tuna-fishing/?TID=shkfsvdi_dc%ficol (has link pointing here)

What is the difference between link rel="canonical" and meta name="canonical"?
Hi mozzers, I would like to know What is the difference between link rel="canonical" and meta name="canonical"? and is it dangerous to have both of these elements combined together? One of my client's page has the these two elements and kind of bothers me because I only know link rel="canonical" to be relevant to remove duplicates. Thanks!

Duplicate Content Question
Brief question - SEOMOZ is teling me that i have duplicate content on the following two pages http://www.passportsandvisas.com/visas/ and http://www.passportsandvisas.com/visas/index.asp The default page for the /visas/ directory is index.asp - so it effectively the same page - but apparently SEOMOZ and more importantly Google, etc treat these as two different pages. I read about 301 redirects etc, but in this case there aren't two physical HTML pages - so how do I fix this?

Questions about 301 Redirects
I have about 10 - 15 URLs that are redirecting to http://www.domainname.comwww.domainname.com/. (which is an invalid URL)The website is on a Joomla platform. Does anyone know how I can fix this? I can't figure out where the problem is coming from.
