Canonical Tag
-
I've been helping someone out with their website, and I noticed the person who built the site made the canonical tags like this:
href="http://www.example.com/" rel="canonical" />I'm use to seeing it how seomoz does it:
Does this matter? Is it ok to have it inverted?
They also have another canonical tag in there like this:
var hs_canonical_url = "http\x3A\x2F\x2Fwww.example.com\x2Fhome"Any idea what that is? Could it be hurting the site?
-
Yes, definitely.

Thanks Ryan. I've noticed for pages like www.example.com/blog and www.example.com/blog**/**, the latter has a rel canonical = the first URL. but would this be better as a redirect?
-
For your first question, the order of the link values does not matter. Either will work. You can declare the rel or href in either order.

Okay to have additional attributes in canonical tag?
Hello! I'm helping a Client with a platform migration from an SEO standpoint. They are working to implement canonical tags, but I've noticed that each of the ones they are implementing are including a "data-rdm" attribute: data-rdm=""> I'm not sure the Client has a way to suppress this before the launch date. Do we think this will be an issue for Google?

Google tag manager on blocked beta site - will it phone home to Google and cause site to get indexed?
We want to develop a beta site, in a directory with the robots.txt blocking bots. We want to include the Google Tag Manager tags and event layer tracking code on this beta site. My question is that by including the Google Tag Manager code, that phones home to Google, will it cause Google to index this beta site when we don't want it indexed?

Title tag on Google starts with company name then :
Can someone help me and tell me why Google picks up and shows the title tag as for example: SEOmoz**: SEO Software. Simplified.** Then if you click through and look at the cache version of the page it shows the title tags as just SEO Software. Simplified. So without the SEOmoz: at the start. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache%3Awww.seomoz.org%2F&aq=f&oq=cache%3Awww.seomoz.org%2F&aqs=chrome.0.57j58.3052&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Its probably something really easy and I'm going to kick myself when someone tells me but I can't figure out why?

How important are tags on blogs?
Hi, I've always used tags on blogs, but I've noticed that some prominent and reputable blogs (e.g., SEOmoz blog, Problogger, Copyblogger) are no longer using tags at the end of each post. I'm curious about what is the reason for this - any ideas? Thanks in advance, Carolina

Header tags - big H1s after small H2s
Just spotted bigger H1s and small H2s on a website, in the newsroom. The smaller H2 = section heading (Newsroom), the larger H1 is a news headline. Might that cause me any search engine problems?
