How to Define Quality of External Website During Link Building?
-
I want to know about process, method or tool which can help me to define quality of external website during link building.
We are searching too many questions and topics on Google to resolve daily mind bubbles which land us on different website with different subject.
I found that, I was able to drop my website URL over there but confuse about quality of website.
I am selling Football and create external link from baby care website. So, will it make sense? My concern is that, Can we create external links from different subject website or specific to subject oriented website?
Is there any specific method which help me to understand more about external website and help me to take decision about link building?

I wouldn't recommend spending money or much time on a directory inclusion/link placement for a page that is not in the primary index and has at least a PageRank of 1 (the page itself - not the domain)
Thanks for your great list and sharing of experience. But, I have one question about above statement. Does it really matter?
Recently, I saw following Webinar on SEOmoz.
Both Webinar are excellent and get too many new things about link building. They recommend to do directory with specific manner and spending less time over there. They are focusing to do something real to gather natural links. What's something real in link building.
I can 100% agree with quality and paid directory where we can add our website with certain budget management.
In social culture, natural link environment... Does it rally matter to focus on directory? What you think about it? If you can give me more idea so it will help me more to understand about it. Thanks again for your answer.

I checked your tool and really helpful. But, I have one question for this tool.
Yesterday, I have submitted one comment on blog post of Inspired Mag. My comment is on 2nd place. It's with nofollow attribute so I know that, it will not pass any page rank to my website.
Now, I checked that blog post URL with tool and give me following statistic.
Total Links found: 1624
Unique Links found: 1307
Questionable Links found: 3
Pages scanned: 40So, It's only for specific web page? If yes so what about entire website? I am not opposing you but have mind bubble to be more clear about it. Thanks again for your insightful answer.

Things to consider:
-
Is the page indexed in Google? Is it duplicate content (likely to not be placed in the primary index) or original? Is the content quality acceptable? Is the page in the main Google index (preferred) or supplemental index? A page is most likely in the supplemental index if it is showing up in Google but has a PageRank of N/A
I wouldn't recommend spending money or much time on a directory inclusion/link placement for a page that is not in the primary index and has at least a PageRank of 1 (the page itself - not the domain)

Does the page itself rank for any keyword phrase in its <title>or <h1> tags? Is the page cached in Google, and if so, how long has it been since last cached (to find out, Google <em>cache:www.website.com</em>) Those are some good basic indicators the page has value.<br /> </span></li> <li><span style="color: #5e5e5e;">How many external links does the page have? If it's a directory inclusion, will your listing show up on the first page or a worthless sub-page that has no juice to pass? Who are they linking to on the page - are they authoritative sites you'd like to be associated with?<br /><br /></span></li> <li><span style="color: #5e5e5e;"> Does the page itself have any links pointing to it, or is its authority derived solely by internal linking?<br /> </span></li> <li><span style="color: #5e5e5e;">How many times has the page been shared/liked on Facebook, tweeted about, and +1'd?<br /> </span></li> <li><span style="color: #5e5e5e;">Unless the site has a penalty, getting a link from a unique IP address and domain name trumps relevancy of their content to yours (from everything I've seen).<br /> </span></li> </ul> <p>That should get you moving in the right direction. It helps to collect all of this information first about pages you'd like to pursue and then order them in terms of value they'll provide and proceed from there.</p></title>

Relevance is important but not critical. It is better to have a footbal or sports related site link to your football site, but non relevant sites still pass PR just the same, and Google does not penalize sites because links pointing to their site are off topic. It is possible that a baby care site links to a football site because they have toddler football jerseys or something like that. Also, blogs and sites that talk about various topics are incredibly common, a site does not have to be about one topic, so no worries there.
The main concern is getting links from a shady or penalized site. Use this tool to see if the site that will be linking to you is a clean site and not linking with sites that sell meds, casino or adult material.

Setting up a separate site for link building
We are jump starting a link building campaign for a personal injury law firm. We're planning on doing things right with earning links to content people will actually want to share, sponsoring local events, etc. We're a little worried that some good opportunities could be missed due to the fact some people have assumptions about personal injury lawyers and would be hesitant to link to us simply because of our injury, regardless of what we're trying to share/promote. One solution we're considering is creating a foundation associated with the firm that supports relevant causes and provides the public with educational resources. That might get over our branding hurdle a bit. We've also discussed setting up a separate site for the foundation and actually building links to it rather than our main site, then linking the foundation site to our main site. The hope would be that we could get more links to the foundation site and it would in turn pass on link juice to our main site. My concern is whether this strategy makes any sense. We'd be putting good content on this foundation site rather than our main site. How much link juice would actually be passed on to our main site in this case? Would so much be lost that it would negate the whole purpose?

Handling External links to articles in a blog
I have a blog that has it's own articles but then also want to feature third-party sites that have my op-ed content on them. Wondering what is the best practice for handling external links. The reason we want to do this: Make sure our followers and people who subscribe to our blog see all our content (especially when a third-party "high authority" publisher is featuring articles from our authors We also want to be able to get a ranking for the article title when someone searches for it on Search Engines. i.e I write an article for hubspot called "my article about something". When googling "my article about something" I want to see both the Hubspot listing (where my article originated on) as well as a link to my website where I show an abstract (original abstract) and then the link links to the hubspot article. For example: www.myblog.com/listing (renders a listing of articles with links to each individual article) If showing an "abstract" for the blog article and then linking out to the third-party source (where content is featured) www.myblog.com/category/post-title (renders actual article page) When showing an individual post-title page what are the minimum requirements (META TAGS, length or amount of characters ,etc) Thanks in advance!

1000 of links on my website ? is it good or bad
Hi guys my site: www.dorchdanola-netbutik.dk is a e-commerce store, and generally we have many links on all pages because of the many products and categories. Im not sure if this is actually bad or good? I've been told that it will definately harm my site when google crawls it. The thing is that google visit my site often and I still have good pageranks in google. So does it actually harm my site having all these products and categories? And what can I do about it if google see every page as duplicate content? I also link to my social pages like FB, G+, e.g. Should I put rel="nofollow" or rel="me" on these social links? Thanks guys!

Does the ratio of external nofollow links to external "do follow" links matter in terms of SERPs ranking?
My site has an external link nofollow:dofollow ratio of approximately 1:1 That is, there are about as many nofollow external links as "do follow" external links. I have an impression that the ratio of no-follow to "do follow" links is a factor in the way that our website shows up in SERPs. I have the impression from reading a variety of sources, and from looking at Seomoz, that calculate "trust" factors as if they mattered (in SERPs), that seem to value a relatively low nofollow:dofollow ratio. Am I correct about that? Thanks,

Link building from keyword domains
Hi all, I am currently working on link building to our site http://www.betxpert.com which has a number of keywords I am targeting. I have become aware that domains with the keywords are available. We (in Danish) target the phrase "ekpert tips" and the domain www.eksperttips.dk is available. Would it be a good thing for us, to register this domain and do one of the following things: a) DNS forward traffic to our main site b) Build a small blog with minor content and linking to the main site with text links with the tekst "ekspert tips"? c) Simply do nothing, save the money and spend it otherwise... Hope someone can give me a sound advice. Best regards, Rasmus

Outsource Link Building?
Currently we are in the process of creating a new ecommerce website. The site is not live yet, but we have done all of the planning and brainstorming and now are just doing all of the dirty work to get things ready to go live. We are devoting a lot of time on merchandising and developing the site, but currently do not have the resources to put together a good link building campaign in house. Does anyone have any recommendations for outsourcing the link building? The last thing we want is to hire someone that submits to bad neighborhoods and only directories. Is there a good, better, best scenario we should be looking at for pricing, ect? Obviously, like most who are starting a new site, cost is an issue at least until the site gives some sort of sign of life. Also, we are in the Pittsburgh area. We don't need to go local with this, but if there is someone particularly good in the area it would be nice. Thanks in advance.

Hi All, We have some partners which link to our site, and they put "?ref=SITENAME" so we Can identify the source of the link....but does this matter to the search engines? Does this count as a different page than the one without the query string? -Rasmus
