How long does it typically take to see a boost in traffic after a strong increase in links?
-
Suppose you have had a great month of linkbuilding and significantly increased the number of linking domains (say by about 10%).
How long does it typically take to see a noticeable uptick in traffic based on your experience?
-
Simply speaking, as soon as Google crawls a web page with a link to your site then you can immediately receive the benefits of that link. A few examples:
-
you receive a link to your site from a popular story on the New York Times. That article will likely be indexed within 1 hour of it being published. You can then immediately begin seeing increased traffic.
-
you receive a link from a "regular" site on an article which is mentioned on the site's home page "Recent Articles" block. Depending on the site's DA, the page will likely be indexed within a couple days and you will begin receiving the benefits after it is indexed.
-
you receive a link from a regular site which is not promoted on their home page but instead is buried in the site. The site structure might be mysite.com/en/blog/articles/cars/2012/ford/sports-cars/mustangs/2012-mustang-gt. Well, that article may never be crawled and indexed in which case you would receive no benefit from the link.
-
your link might be on a page which is noindexed or blocked by robots.txt which would not be seen
Also keep in mind a link to your site offers two benefits: direct traffic from the linking site and any benefit to improving the ranking of your search results which Google offers to you based on that link. You can receive a direct traffic boost instantly. You may or may not ever receive a boost from Google based on the link. If the link is nofollowed then Google wont offer you any benefit. Many sites are penalized from Google by having their links devalued for various reasons. If you receive a link from such a site, there is no ranking benefit.
The last point, Google will examine your site when determining a boost from the links. Are the sites linking in independent? If the sites have similar IPs, similar backlinks, same owners, use the same anchor text, etc. then Google will likely devalue those links.

How Long for Penguin Recovery if All Links Were Removed at Once?
Hi, I was wondering if anyone had thoughts on length of time before a Penguin recovery can take place, assuming you removed all the bad links at once? I have a client that has a Penguin penalty, with all the bad links pointing in to a domain, which then redirected to theirs. So, I simply had that domain removed and it now returns a 404 instead of redirecting to the main site. Now all of the bad backlinks do not pass through. All of this happened at once about 5 weeks ago. I was glad to discover such an easy solution, but am wondering how long something like this would take. My initial thought was it would take 2 or 3 months to see recovery, but I was hoping since the issue was fixed so quickly, recovery would be faster. Any experience with Penguin recoveries with all spam links removed (less that 100 links) at once?

Link Exchange
Hi everyone, I just started working for a client in a new niche. After reviewing the backlink profiles of his competitors I can see that the top sites are using a ton of link exchanges. They are from really spammy sites too. The kind that will link to anyone that provides a link back. Anyone else seeing much of this?

External links incorrect
Hello, My 'air intelligence' campaign is indicating my site has no external links, but I know from Google analytics that there is over a 1000 links. How long should I expect SEOmoz to take to discover all the links. Regards

We were penalized for a specific key phrase due to incoming links. How long to come back?
We were penalized for a specific key phrase, I had included a link using that phrase to the targeted page in a header on another site. This resulted in hundreds of identical lincoming links using that key phrase to the page, so I'm guessing that's what did it. I've since rectified the problem but about how long do you think it will take for the penalty to be dropped? We were knocked down about 10 places.

It is already happening on social networks if you are active there, but what about on your website. What are your thoughts on the following ? Google's job is provide the most relevant results to surfers online, and looking the link profile of a site & the page itself is the key to determining which page to serve on plate to the surfers link query ! To get quick traffic or build slow authority links, high rankings, lead generation, sales & other things here I may be missing etcccc Other Objective Networking & Relationship Building Alliances : What I discovered today is that building links for 1st page rankings are great and will provide me with steady traffic, but not all of it is targeted traffic, but what else can I do to bring targeted traffic and at the same time try to build alliances with other related non competing business owners online. The idea... is to apply old school networking / relationship building alliances to get targeted traffic to my site that can actually benefit from my services. How Do We Achieve This I become a editor for approving resource links for me site, only the best will be placed on my site as a resource. Build a valuable tightly themed categorized resource section with related non competing resources that can help my sites visitors find what they are looking for, send visitors to non competing resources that may purchase their services which helps me build a relationship with them, and may can with rankings as well, provided I am selective with my qualification process. Questions & Concerns Below : What should I be thinking about when creating a resource categorized links page How many outgoing do follow links should I allow from this links partner page How will this links resource page affect my own SE 1st Page Rankings and is it worth it based on getting targeted traffic Any pros / cons I may be missing here0 -
Links on the same keyword
When is linking from one particular keyword to much. At what point could link building from one keyword be considered spam and potentially delist a site ? Is it possible for a site to be delisted for having to many links from the same keyword ? Heard linking from the website name is more important following recent changes. I try and link from a selection of 3 to 4 keywords. Thanks for your help

Inbound links – does the traffic matter at all??
So we know that links from highly ranked websites, pages with high DA, PR etc, matter. What about the traffic on these links? Do Google and others look at the traffic on the links and factor that into the algorithm? What do people think about this? Just wondering about this as don’t see it talked about much….Thanks
