Rename index.php or keyword in URL?
-
It is important for me to get good search results for keyword + city name
For instance: tulips amsterdam
What would be better: renaming index.php or adding the cityname to the URL?
www.example.com/amsterdam/tulips
OR

You sure did, thanks!

I just sent a PM

I just think your over complicating it.
-
No, that's not what I mean. I am concerned that it will be seen as duplicate within my site, not compared to another site.
-
the home page (index)
-
copy of homepage, but renamed to /tulips-amsterdam
In all the 'home' buttons of the site you point back to www.example.com/tulips-amsterdam instead of pointing to / or www.example.com. Will that be seen as duplicate within the site and would it be harmfull?
-
-
Sure it says the same thing but if you look at it and you feel the message your delivering is better then you should be able to rank higher.
Think of it like this: /car/make/year/part/ How many people have that url structure.. a lot. Just because you have the same url structure does not mean it's duplicate.
-
OK thanks. One final question:
I saw a site (good scoring on that keyword) where they did this: The home button was not pointing to / but to /tulips-amsterdam.
The only thing I can imagine is that there are two exactly the same pages: index, where you will land at www.example.com and a copy of index, renamed to tulips-amsterdam. It seems to work very good. But wil there be a risk to get penalized for duplicate content?
-
Then I would go with: www.example.com/tulips-amsterdam because there is no reason to have a / vs - www.example.com/tulips-amsterdam does fine.
-
No, /amsterdam/ contains no page.
The CMS needs a 'container', like 'pages'
So it would be: www.example.com/pages/tulips-amsterdam
To get rid of that 'pages' I thought it might be an idea to rename 'pages' to 'amsterdam'. The result is that every URL contains the keyword 'amsterdam'. But I wonder what will be better:
www.example.com/amsterdam/tulips
OR
www.example.com/pages/tulips-amsterdam
www.example.com/tulips-amsterdam
In the last option the 'pages' container name has stripped with htaccess
-
Will you have more information about /amsterdam/ ? since we going with flowers in amsterdam then I would imagine a page about the different flowers in amsterdam.
So if you have more information of offer in amsterdam then I would say: /amsterdam/tulips

Pages for similar keywords?
I have a site that wants to target the keywords listed below. They are a small company with just a few ski chalets in Val d'Isere, a ski resort in France. They don't have ski chalets in any other ski resort. Val d'Isere chalets

Would you reply on the homepage to rank for all these terms or create seperate pages for the terms, and if so how would you group the terms per page?0 -
Keyword Optimisation
In terms of on page optimization for Key words, should I be trying to optimise the page for all the keywords in my adwords campaign, which is approximately 200… or just the words that generate the most click throughs, etc

Sorry, but that URL is inaccessible
Our site is all on the https protocol so every time I use the on-page grader it tells me the link is unavailable. What can we do? When I use the http protocol (which is 301 redirected to the https) it still gives me the same message.

2 Question about URL structure
Hello guys 1 - I have a question about the best structure for URLs from the point of view of SEO: Is it OK to use the URL as mywebsite.com.br/long-tail-article Or is better this mywebsite.com.br/category/long-tail-article 2 - When part of my keyword is already in my "category", for example: mywebsite.com.br/digital-marketing/digital-marketing-is-good I leave it as it is, or in the following way: mywebsite.com.br/digital-marketing-is-good NOTE: Do not take into account that this URL would be different from other URLs in this category

To enter keyword meta tags or to not enter keyword meta tags?
I've been doing SEO for awhile, but new to SEOMoz. I'm surprised that SEOMoz does not recommend keyword meta tags. I didn't enter them for the longest time because I know Google doesn't care about them. However, I did read that other search engines DO use them. And therefore that is why you should have them. I teach my customers about SEO, and I know it would be much easier for them not to enter or worry about the keyword meta tags. However, I would love to hear opinions here. And to Bing/Yahoo put any weight into them or is it only really small search engines? Thanks! Hilary

Redirecting URLS on windows
Could anyone help out here please. A client of ours have reveloped their website from HTML to ASP (helpful!). They have 60 odd pages indexed in Google with the .html extension. We need to do a redirect on these pages so that all link juice is passed to the new pages. What would be the best way to do this please?

Keyword in URL
Hi everyone, I've heard many times that keyword prominence in url have a good impact for on-page optimization, even in SEOmoz it is one of the on-page factors. But what if i put keyword in URL then some of the page weight will be targeted to the page in the URL. Which in my vision makes only a negative impact. For ex. Targeted page <a>with keyword "buy car in NY" has a link with anchor text "buy car in NY" pointing on page **, so some weight from A will be transferred to B. Also I think this subject cover a cross linking, so I would like to know, what is the right way of doing cross linking and does it still brings any impact on keyword rankings in SERP.**</a> <a>**Good answer will be appreciated. Cheers, Russel**</a>
