Does it still help to bold text on webpages to draw the attention of the search engine bots?
-
I remember a few years ago, bolding text was important for the search bots, is this still the case?
-
Fantastic real life test and observation. Highly appreciated!

Hi Augustos,
Yes, bounce rate is now acknowledged as a ranking factor by major search engines.
I would say you are probably doing exactly what I talked about in my response to Volkinator - are your conversion rates also improved?

Hi Volkinator,
I would actually offer a slightly different perspective on this.
I agree that there doesn't appear to be any real evidence that it helps rankings, but...
Think about what works for the visitor ... clever use of bold text can actually help conversions, but you have to think carefully about what you are doing because it can also hurt them terribly if misused.
First, highlighting just repetitive keyword terms or long sections of text is likely to hurt in 2 ways:
- It is likely to annoy people and therefore increase the bounce rate for the page.
- long passages of bold text reduce comprehension dramatically - if people don't understand the text on the page they are less likely to convert.
However, you can highlight just short phrases in the text to send a direct message to the reader. This will drive your message home more effectively and increase conversions.
This is an artificially constructed version to demonstrate what I am talking about, but in essence, the highlighted phrases when read alone create a shorter, more direct action statement from within the two longer sentences.
I have found this to be quite effective in improving conversions on client sites. One site in particular went from a conversion rate of 2.2% to a conversion rate of 26% after making only this change.
Hope that helps,
Sha

Only when your competitors are naive and easy.
In any other situation you are in a battle of resources.

The pages I used bolding text, I can't see any rank boost but the bounce rate normally decrease in a good amount.
So here is the question, is bounce rate matter for ranking?
-
I did some test once, and i could not see anything worth noting
-
Thanks, I looked there before postign and didn't see anything specific to bolding text

It is still known to help, but to a generally small degree. You can see all the ranking factors in the latest study here.

Help getting a Wordpress.com site to rank
Hi all, I have a blog for my site, but it hasn't been integrated into our site yet (that will happen in the next few months when we do some site changes). For now, it sits on a Wordpress.com site, and links from my website. I post a couple times a week, have social media linked to it, and feed posts to aggregators regularly. I also comment and like other Wordpress.com sites, but it just isn't ranking. Do I just need to stay persistent? It's been up for a month now, but still only getting a few hits a day. Any advice?

How to make a bad posting drop down the search engines
we have had a competitor who has been stealing a lot of content from us and now they have used seo tactics to write a bad article about one of our sites that they have been taking content from, and what we would like to do is to use seo techniques to drop their article down the rankings. We are consulting a solicitor to take action against them as we are fed up of the content being stolen and the other techniques they are using, can anyone give me ideas on the best way to drop this post down the rankings. I was thinking about articles and press releases and blog posts to get higher up in the rankings and do a lot of these to drop their article down the rankings. Our solicitor has already taken action against them in the past and that cost us a fortune and it looks like we are going to have to spend a fortune again, so any help on using seo techniques to drop their article down the rankings would be great.

Why is an old meta description displaying in search results?
We launched a new version of our retail website in Dec. 2012. This included new content and new metadata. When our homepage displays in search results, it almost always displays with designated meta description - except when it's searched with the .com. In that case, an old version of our meta description (pre-Dec. 2012) is visible, though our current title displays. The old metadata isn't loaded anywhere in our content management system. What can we do to change this?

Help with HitTail
Does anyone else use HitTail? I am using it for a free trial at the moment. The idea was to get some keyword suggestions and write blog posts on these topics. My problem is that I am ranking on the top page sometimes spot 2 or 3 for the keyword terms that are being suggested, so what's the point? I don't see the point in writing for google searches in other countries so I delete them as it isn't an international business? Am I getting the most out of this or just missing the point?

Any article sites that actually still rank welll?
Hi All! After the havoc of Panda and Penguin - are there any article sites that still rank decently for the articles within? I'm not talking about using articles to get backlinks - I want to attract visitors to the articles themselves because of the message within the article. Yes, I know that for lots of reasons my own blog would be better. In addition to that, if you want to spread the message - which sites are recommended? Thanks! Aviva

Duplicate Text on Blog & Internal News Page
I have two places I post news for our company. Our blog - typically more informal posts
Content Development | | seo-hunter
mycompany.wordpress.com & Our news page - typically more newsworthy than the blog
mycompany.com/news My question is, It is okay to just copy the exact text from my wordpress blog and paste to my news area of my site and vice versa? Does this hurt ranking potential for either page?0 -
Google Site Search
Hi, I was just wondering if anyone had used Google Site Search before and what they thought of it? http://www.google.com/sitesearch/ It seems quite expensive for just returning your own pages but would be interested to find out more. Thanks
