Business Listings
-
So,
There are no stupid questions right?
I am thinking about adding my website to a number of business directories and websites.
I have added it to several sites which do not charge a listing fee.
There are several sites out there which charge anywhere from 10 dollars to hundreds of dollars.
My question is:
Is there a way to figure out ahead of time the cost/benefit relationship between the price paid for several listings....... and the likely increase in page rank due to the increase of links to the website.
Or what number and quality of links I may need to aquire in order to increase my page rank?
I appreciate all the help this community has provided in the past. While my website is not ranking the best......... its a solid contender!
Thanks for your time and consideration in this matter.

Good times are on the way!!!!! Thx

They have mudrasslers in Bugtussle.

Mostly my goal is to increase the number of links, as well as to increase the websites overall online presence.
I agree its much better to get quality over quantity. With the niche I am working in, there are huge limits in terms of where to go for links. So, looking at some business listings and directories for ancillary link sources. Thanks for your help here!

Great response and funny too!
Thanks for your insight.
Seems to me like I may be in a situation where I may be driving through Bugtussle on my way to a wrestling match. Thanks!

Not really.... however, the potential impact depends upon two things.... 1) how strong your site is currently and 2) the strength of the competition that you are attacking.
-
If you have a weak site and add a few directory links that is when you have the best chance of seeing some impact... but if you submit a PR7 site to a couple crappy directories that will be like spitting into the ocean.
-
Regarding the level of competition that you are attacking... if you are trying to rank for "auto repair in Bugtussle, West Virginia" a batch of directory links might push you up a couple of spots... but if you are trying to rank for "payday loans" a batch of directory links will be like attacking the United States Navy with a potato gun.

What is your goal with the business listings? To just be backlinks to your main site? Or to help boost your Google Places page with citations and possibly reviews being picked up?
Odds are your PR itself is not going to go up due to local business listings. But they can serve as some nice supplemental back links.
As for the number of links needed to increase your PR. That varies based on the quality of the links you are getting. 1 great link is better than 1000 spammy poor links. So it all depends.

Schema Markup for property list
My Client has a Real Estate directory with many landing pages for specific properties and locations, example: https://www.laguiainmobiliaria.com.mx/casas-en-venta-queretaro/ This landing page is a list of New Houses in Queretaro. The properties appear dynamically, because this landing pages works trough a WP Query. So the list changes every week. We are preparing each listing to have a Product Markup as trulia. But what would be the appropiate markup for the list of properties? An itemlist markup seems imposible because the list is dynamical, so maybe Markup as an article? in the description: List of houses in Queretaro?

Not showing in Google map listing. Why?
We have a client who's law firm is the highest google reviewed, on page two or three of St. Louis personal injury lawyer, but does not show in the map listing. Any ideas why this would happen or how to ensure they are viewable in the map listing?

Product Listing Pages
Hi I had a question regarding product pages and the best way to display the page for SEO. For example, is it best to have a page for - Blue Euro Containers including a table of the capacity options you can buy.. Or, have each product split out so it has it's own product page - 60L Blue Euro Container, etc etc I know a lot of the information will be fairly similar, with the capacity being the one major difference - is this a bad thing? Some of our product tables are too big and the idea was to split them out. Thanks!

How do you get great content for a small business?
We always talk about great engaging content being the way forwards for sites. As a small business this is an expensive commodity to outsource when you have probably in the region of 250 pages that could probably all use some work. To that end I have some questions. how do do you make a product or category description engaging? Should they still contain a certain number of words ( personally I hate ready reams of text) As on-page SEO what should we be striving to achieve? I am sure this has all been asked before but what the general consensus right now?

Domains dominating SERPs w/multiple listings
I know Cutts addressed this as a potential future update to the Google algo but it's driving me bonkers.. My primary targeted keyword has one of our competitors listed 4 times in a row on the top of page 2. Some of the pages have duplicate page titles and the content is relatively thin. The site has a PR of 2 and a DA of 35. Why on earth are they able to suck up a whole half of a results page?!?!?! I don't know that there's anything anyone can tell me that will help, but if there's something I missed about this update please let me know. 'snot fair. 😞

Are Some Websites "White Listed"?
I track several niches that I am not in so I am not to biased with my own, and I noticed one site despite its rather mediocre quality, never moves. I have seen other websites rise and fall in rank, a few with pretty good content. He writes reviews, but very obviously never touched the products he reviews. However I see some other sites with real photos, and good advice for making a decision - they will sit on page two or three. I havent done a lot of research other than the size of the sites, and the links, and they are about equal. Sometimes the ranking site is smaller (its about 90 pages in google). The other sites I have seen have more content on one topic as well, which is interesting google opts for his one page "once over" review over something more in depth and authentic. It got me thinking about whether some sites are white listed by google, as in hand picked to rank despite what else is out there. Is this possible?

Organic listing & map listing on 1st page of Google
Hi, Back then, a company could get multiple listings in SERP, one in Google Maps area and a homepage or internal pages from organic search results. But lately, I've noticed that Google are now putting together the maps & organic listings. This observation has been confirmed by a couple of SEO people and I thought it made sense, but one day I stumble with this KWP "bmw dealership phoenix" and saw that www.bmwnorthscottsdale.com has separate listing for google places and organic results. Any idea how this company did this? Please see the attached image
