Competitive Research
-
Hi there,
I been using http://www.opensiteexplorer.org to check my competitor link profile for a specific keyword, apart from Root domain being one of the most important factors, what else should I be looking for, Page Authority?
Kind Regards
-
Hi Gary
You'll find an excellent Link Analysis Guide at http://seomoz.zendesk.com/entries/20036956-link-analysis
It highlights all the important elements to analyze, such as Followed Linking Root Domains and Page Authority.
Really worthwhile working through it in conjunction with the available tools in your Pro account. Focus on your own sites' strengths and weaknesses and how you can improve it in various ways, a competitor analysis will give you some ideas for links and such like, though the real effective work is focusing on your own site first and foremost.
Hope that helps,
Regards
Simon

How have they done that? DA20 site in p2 for very competitive search term
Not sure whether to actually name the term and site in question, but basically it is a very big term for a popular type of home furniture. Since the algo change, there is a site thats appeared in p2, right behind the market leader in google uk. The site has a domain authority of 20, and only 84 links - none of which even have the anchor text in question, and infact well over 90% have the same anchor text which is related but different to the search term. The search term appears on the home page 3 times - once in a 120 character+ keyword stuffed home link title, once in a 100 character+ keyword stuffed h1 tag that isnt even visible on the home page and one in a paragraph that is visible.

The site is badly made and buggy, but its outranking John Lewis, Dunelm Mill etc - very big players in the UK market. How on earth does that work? They are doing so much google tells you not to and winning big rank!? What is Google doing?0 -
Competitor research
so i was doing some competitor research for the following domain and seomoz seems to be telling me that this domain has over a thousand links but that only 2 are external. from surfing the site it seems that most of those links come from several years of weekly blogs. will this domain be easy to overtake by setting up a good number of external links? what kind of number would i be looking at? www.diehlorthodontics.com/

Has anyone every researched how long before a link took effect.....
What I mean is lets assume you were to get a link from BBC or CNN how long does it take for that link to have a positive impact on your rankings? I ask because I am experiment with getting links from different sources and I want to try and nail down their real worth..... Also if you do get a link is it normal that google would crawl your site and if so do you see this reflected in googles cache immediately? Thanks

I've just started my backlinking research on dentists. What are these links?
When you go to the URL and the link isn't there, what does it mean? Looks like the link may have been around since 2011. Any clues? What is an old comment on the story or something? From openexplorer URL: http://espn.go.com/espn/espys/?ov=bestplay Title: 2011 ESPYS - July 2011 ESPNHD Anchor Text: http://www.l a d e n t i s t.c o m (I don't want a link to them so I spaced it) Page Authority: 51 Domain Authority 100 Number of Links: 7 Followable = YES Origin = External Target URL: http://www.l a d e n t i s t .com/

Has anyone done any real research about paid directories?
Hi Guys Im doing a little link building and in the industry Im working in there are quite a few directories....most offer free inclusion as long as you link back to them. This process can be slow due to the number of people trying to get listed. Also most offer a "express service" whereby you can get your site reviewed and uploaded faster if you pay a nominal fee circa £15. I'm not refering to any old directories these are directories which are industry specific and related to my site, however they are not confined to the country I am in (UK) but extend world wide So that got me thinking has anyone actually done any conclusive research which suggests that either A) you will not get any benefit from being included in such a directory or B) that you get penalised if you do so or C) none of the above and there is some benefit. I have been using open site explore and I can see these sites are giving link juice to my competition (as far as I can tell ofcourse) I found a site with almost all of its back links from these types of directories ranking on the first page for a very competitive term (67% using Keyword Difficulty tool) Would be interested to hear your thoughts / experiences

Example of a local "boring-niche" site in a relatively high competition area using strictly white hat tactics
I'm looking for an example of a site in a very boring service niche locally "let's say elevator doors in chicago" or something like that, that successfully using blogging, content generation, etc to achieve top rankings above its spammy competitors. Anyone care to give out a case study? I'm not talking about companies that submit to 100's of local directories like yelp, or google maps rankings. I'm talking about organic or blended serps.

Link Building in non-competitive industry
Hello, My client's home page is targething 2 keywords - one at 43% difficulty (SEOMoz Keyword Difficulty Tool) and one at 50% difficulty. I want to link build for this person, but I analyzed the top 5 competitors and there is no resource section on any of the sites. We want to write 20 articles for our site. So there's no people linking to content that I can find. This messes up my link building because I always make targeted content on the subject that people are already linking to How do I link build in this case. Nothing stands out as something I could do with my site for link bait. Thanks!

I'm looking at packages to help with link finding, outreach, acquisition and management. But I'd appreciate some views from fellow forum members on the best choice; BuzzStream Link-Assistant Link Research Tools Other? BuzzStream looks pretty promising to me.
