Can anyone recommend a good UK service provider for Dedicated Servers?
-
Hi, we have just had a shocking experience moving from shared hosting to a dedicated server with a very large service provider. Our website slowed down, the server has been down more times than up so we have moved back to shared hosting until we can find a supplier that can deliver. nightmare!! If anyone can recommend a good company it would be appreciated.
Thanks

Rackspace is one of the more expensive hosts around. They simply aren’t meant for most budget site owners. But by experience, Convergent Internet Solutions offers the experienced technicians and reliability just as Rackspace does. They just offer it with more of a budgeted mindset “customer first attitude”.

Good call Keri , thanks ! We are UK based so I will amend the original question

What country is the target for this website? Your profile looks like you're from the UK. If you're targeting people in the UK, you might want to specify that, so we can help give you recommendations that better suit your area. If possible, you generally want hosting in the country you're targeting.

Personally, before I worked for Convergent, I had been using Convergent Internet Solutions for over 5 years.
Nothing but good things to say. It’s nice to know who you’re working with, when you can ask for a tech by first name, or giving an client number. I would call Chad, Rackspace is awesome, but really expensive. -
I've been using GoGrid for 2 years and very happy with the reliability and service. In my opinion they are chipper then Amazon when talking about the full bundle(Load balancers, CDN etc..). They usually have a 100$ free trial so you can try them for a full month

+1 for Rackspace. Very good uptime + super quick and dedicated support.

It depends alot on your needs and budget:
Rackspace and Amazon are good when it comes to reliability, but dedicated is VERY expensive. If you are okay with the cloud they both offer this and can be quite reasonable.
I like Rackspace as you have a little more wiggle room and it is a little cheaper than Amazon.
What are you needs/requirements in a web server?
w00t!

How to handle pages I can't delete?
Hello Mozzers, I am using wordpress and I have a small problem. I have two sites, I don't want but the dev of the theme told me I can't delete them. /portfolio-items/ /faq-items/ The dev said he can't find a way to delete it because these pages just list faqs/portfolio posts. I don't have any of these posts so basically what I have are two sites with just the title "Portfolio items" and "FAQ Items". Furthermore the dev said these sites are auto-generated so he can't find a way to remove them. I mean I don't believe that it's impossible, but if it is how should I handle them? They are indexed by search engines, should I remove them from the index and block them from robots.txt? Thanks in advance.

What can I do to stop ranking for a keyword that has nothing to do with the companies website?
A website that we maintain keeps ranking for the keyword 'homeless shelter'. The company is UTILIS USA and they produce heavy duty shelters for military personnel. They have nothing to do with homeless shelters but continue to receive traffic concerning the phrase.

Links from the same server has value or not
Hi Guys, Sometime ago one of the SEO experts said to me if I get links from the same IP address, Google doesn't count them as with much value. For an example, I am a web devleoper and I host all my clients websites on one server and link them back to me. Im wondering whether those links have any value when it comes to seo or should I consider getting different hosting providers? Regards Uds

Google Places, Plus, and National Service
I'm attempting to dive into the Google Places and Google + Local mess. First off, we are a company that services nationally. Our installer manager travels worldwide however in 15+ areas we have local sales and/or installers that service customers locally. There is no business storefront, rather they work out of their home and travel around their local area (100+ miles). Our main office is a storefront and we do service clients at our store, plus travel locally and nationally, as I mentioned. #1) Can I (should I) create separate listings for each of these installers? They are independent contractors... Use their local phone number and residential home address? Put somehow put our main 800 number as the secondary number along with our main website address? Or, should we try the bulk upload feature of 'stores' and attach them to our name and website address? #2) Our Places address is under our Marketing Director's login through Google. We have most everything else under another email address which includes our Google Plus Business page, AdWords, Merchant account, etc. Should I go back and claim the Places page through our main email account, and then merge the Places account with our Google Plus page? #3) Currently our Places page says we serve all 50 states. Should I try to keep that the same (I don't think you can select 'states' for the areas you service anymore, or can you?) or should I move to our local installers in our 15+ and growing areas? I've been reading through past Google Places discussions here and I've been trying to find out more about the bulk upload feature to see if it would work but I'm getting stumped.

Can I "Run Macros" on my own?
I talked to the SEO company I am using and trying to get an understanding of what it is they are doing for me. They told me that one of the most important things they are doing is running macros. Is this something I could learn to do myself? What does it mean? How do I do it? How long does it take?? I have recently been educating myself on SEO and coded my website with metadata titles and descriptions. Is running macros something I can do on my own too? I guess I'd also just like to know what it is.

Hi i have found a website on my dedicated server that is not mine by using a number of tools including http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/web-sites-on-web-server/ the site that i found that was not mine is buycostumes.com i contacted my hosting company and told them and this is the reply i got back We have checked the issue and it appears there have a bug/glitch in this site, because after we checked the mentioned domain we found that this website respond on IP which is not our and is not assisgned in your Dedicated server as you may preview below: Found 3 domains hosted on the same web server as buycostumes.com (66.45.3.44). buycostumes.com (linkback) target.com (linkback) www.certifigroup.com (linkback) Thus if you find any issues on your web server, please mention them in this ticket and we will be glad to provide you with further assistance on this matter. Please feel free to contact us if you have any further technical difficulties. Best regards, Now they have not said if they are going to do anything about this and to be honest i am getting fed up with the hosting company because i am being told that the slow speed i was receiving for my website www.in2town.co.uk was down to it taking a long time to reach my server before reaching my site. Now not sure if this is correct or not but with all the help i have received off semoz i have managed to increase the speed to my site but now i have found this problem. Can anyone tell me if i am being played and also can anyone recommend a professional UK hosting company. Also is this site affecting my spped and my site performance.

For a UK business where there is no .co.uk or .com opportunity, is it better to have a .net address or would .uk.com be better? Or no difference...This company is UK focussed only.
We have a niche keyword domain possibility but I am not sure which way, if any, is better. The .com and .co.uk options are not available but there are various other ones - including .org, .net, .uk.com. Is there any domain/seo benefit of one version over another? Any thought gratefully received..
