Duplicate Home Page content and title ... Fix with a 301?
-
Hello everybody,
I have the following erros after my first crawl:
Duplicate Page Content
http://www.peruviansoul.com/index.php?id=2
Duplicate Page title
http://www.peruviansoul.com/index.php?id=2
Do you think I could fix them redirecting to http://www.peruviansoul.com with a couple of 301 in the .htaccess file?
Thank you all for you help.
Gustavo

Just a side note - your home-page TITLE is "Peruvian Soul | Peruvian Soul" - not that it's likely to look spammy to Google, but it just looks odd and isn't really helping anything. Might be an artifact of your CMS.

If the 'id' parameter serves different page content then perhaps you could have a look at mod_rewrite and create a class, which converts dynamic urls to the static looking ones.
If the parameter only affects a small portion of the content then I would use canonical url to inform crawlers that the current page is actually the 'index' regardless of the parameter:
Regardless of what you are planning on doing, you should make sure that all links on your site, which link to the home page have just the slash in the href attribute - like so:
This way all of the links to the home page that crawlers will see are going to point to one location only.

Thank you for the link
Will check it out right away!

Thank you for your reply.
I will try that code out, but would you be so kind to let me know where I can find a quick explanation of that code?
And if it's possible, I would also like to know why is this piece of code better than a simple 301 redirect.
Thanks again!

Hey Gustavo,
Yes you can, here is the code needed for the .htaccess file:
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^peruviansoul.com [NC]
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.peruviansoul.com$1 [L,R=301]RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /(([^/]+/)*)index.(html?|php[45]?|[aj]spx?)\ HTTP/
RewriteRule index.(html?|php[45]?|[aj]spx?)$ http://www.peruviansoul.com%1 [R=301,L]Let me know if this works for you.

How do I prevent duplicate page title errors from being generated by my multiple shop pages?
Our e-commerce shop has numerous pages within the main shop page. Users navigate through the shop via typical pagination. So while there may be 6 pages of products it's all still under the main shop page. Moz keeps flagging my shop pages as having duplicate titles (ie shop page 2). But they're all the same page. Users aren't loading unique pages each time they go to the next page of products and they aren't pages I can edit. I'm not sure how to prevent this issue from popping up on my reports.

Duplicate content pages on different domains, best practice?
Hi, We are running directory sites on different domains of different countries (we have the country name in the domain name of each site) and we have the same static page on each one, well, we have more of them but I would like to exemplify one static page for the sake of simplicity. So we have http://firstcountry.com/faq.html, http://secondcountry.com/faq.html and so on for 6-7 sites, faq.html from one country and the other have 94% similarity when checked against duplicate content. We would like an alternative approach to canonical cause the content couldn´t belong to only one of this sites, it belongs to all. Second option would be unindex all but one country. It´s syndicated content but we cannot link back to the source cause there is none. Thanks for taking the time in reading this.

Home Page Blog Snippets - Duplicate Content Help?
Afternoon Folks- I have been asked to contribute to a new site that has a blogfeed prominently displayed on the home page. It's laid out like this: Logo | Menu HOME PAGE SLIDER Blog 1 Title about 100 words of blog 1 Text Blog 2 Title about 100 words of blog 2 Text Blog 3 Title about 100 words of blog 3 Text Footer: -- This seems like an obvious duplicate content situation but also a way I have seen a lot of blogs laid out. (I.E. With blog content snippets being a significant portion of the home page content) I want the blogs to rank and I want the home page to rank, so I don't feel like a rel canonical on the blog post's is the correct option unless I have misunderstood their purpose. Anyone have any ideas or know how this is usually handled?

301 duplicate content dynamic url
I have a number of pages that appear as duplicate titles in google webmaster. They all have to do with a brand name query. I want to 301 these pages since I'm going to relaunch my new website on wordpress and don't want to have 404s on these pages. a simple 301 redirect doesn't work since they are dynamic urls. here is an example: /kidsfashionnetherlands/mimpi.html?q=brand%3Amim+pi%3A&page=2&sort=relevance /kidsfashionnetherlands/mimpi.html?q=mim+pi&page=3&sort=relevance /kidsfashionnetherlands/mimpi.html?q=mim+pi&page=5&sort=relevance should all be 301 to the original page that I want to remain indexed: /kidsfashionnetherlands/mimpi.html I have a lot of these but for different queries. Should I do a 301 on each of them to avoid having 404s when I change my site to wordpress? Thanks

Once duplicate content found, worth changing page or forget it?
Hi, the SEOmoz crawler has found over 1000 duplicate pages on my site. The majority are based on location and unfortunately I didn't have time to add much location based info. My question is, if Google has already discovered these, determined they are duplicate, and chosen the main ones to show on the SERPS, is it worth me updating all of them with localalized information so Google accepts the changes and maybe considers them different pages? Or do you think they'll always be considered duplicates now?

What's the difference between a category page and a content page
Hello, Little confused on this matter. From a website architectural and content stand point, what is the difference between a category page and a content page? So lets say I was going to build a website around tea. My home page would be about tea. My category pages would be: White Tea, Black Tea, Oolong Team and British Tea correct? ( I Would write content for each of these topics on their respective category pages correct?) Then suppose I wrote articles on organic white tea, white tea recipes, how to brew white team etc...( Are these content pages?) Do I think link FROM my category page ( White Tea) to my ( Content pages ie; Organic White Tea, white tea receipes etc) or do I link from my content page to my category page? I hope this makes sense. Thanks, Bill
