My website is saying I have duplicate page content and page title. How do I fix it?
-
Hi,
I created a website on webstarts.com. After I launched it then ran a scan through SEO it says I have duplicate page content and page title. The 2 pages it is reading are technically the same page. www.mobilemowermedicsinc.com and www.mobilemowermedicsinc.com/index . I am unsure how to get rid of on of these as it keeps saying this is an error in the SEO scan. Could someone please advise me of what to do from here.
Thanks!

It's the same thing the rewrite is a 301 it's just using Apaches mod_rewrite to achieve it.
You can use either option, after you have setup the 301 you can check the Apache status code, If you have shell access you can tail the access log file.
If you don't have shell access I am sure their are Chrome / Firefox plugins that will verify your 301 code, or you could use Screaming Frog.

Just wondering is it better to use a rewrite instead of a redirect in the .htaccess file?
i.e.
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /([^/]+/)*index.(html?|php)\ HTTP/
RewriteRule (([^/]+/)*)index.(html?|php)$ http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]

Bryan, you need to redirect the page http://www.mobilemowermedicsinc.com/index.html and point it at http://www.mobilemowermedicsinc.com
To do this create a 301 redirect using a .htaccess file.
Connect to your server and look in the root of your web server for a file called .htaccess - if it does not exist then create one (make sure it's called .htaccess).
Add the following line to the .htaccess file:
301 redirect /index.html http://www.mobilemowermedicsinc.com
This will fix the duplicate content problem on your home page.

Duplicate Content Indentification Tools
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good tool that can identify which elements on a page are duplicated content? I use Moz Analytics to determine which pages have the duplicated content on them, but it doesn't say which pieces of text or on-page elements are in fact considered to be duplicate. Thanks Moz Community in advance!

How do I avoid duplicate content and page title errors when using a single CMS for a website
I am currently hosting a client site on a CMS with both a Canadian and USA version of the website. We have the .com as the primary domain and the .ca is re-directed from the registrar to the Canadian home page. The problem I am having is that my campaign produces errors for duplicate page content and duplicate page titles. Is there a way to setup the two versions on the CMS so that these errors do not get produced? My concern is getting penalized from search engines. Appreciate any help. Mark Palmer

I was thinking I would because then I could add more pictures and expand on the topic and try to get an "A" grade on each page. I'm not sure how I could rank a page if I have 35 services listed on the page. That would be an awfully big H1! Suggestions?0 -
Should I worry about duplicate titles on pages where there is paginated content?
LivingThere.com is a real estate search site and many of our content pages are "search result" - ish in that a page often provides all the listings that are available and this may go on for multiple pages. For example, this is a primary page about a building: http://livingthere.com/building/31308-Cocoa-Exchange Because of the number of listings, the listings paginate to a second page: http://livingthere.com/building/31308-Cocoa-Exchange?MListings_page=2 Both pages have the same Page Title. Is this a concern? If so is there a "best practice" for giving paginated content different titles? Thanks! Nate

Localised content/pages for identical products
I've got a question about localising the website of a nationwide company. We're a small dance school with nationwide (40 cities) coverage for around 40 products. Currently, we have one page for each product (style of dance), and one page for each city; the product pages cover keywords like 'cheerleading dance class' while the city pages target the 'london dance classes'-type keywords. To make 'localised product pages', I feel like we should make a page for every city/product combo 'London cheerleading classes' - but that seems like a nightmare for both writing sexy & original content, and link building/social stats. The other thing I can think of (which I refuse to do because it would look stupid & flag the page as keyword stuffed) is filling the page with the keyword phrases which are appropriate for every city. Is there another way to let google know 'this page is appropriate for these cities...'? We do currently list the cities a product is available in, but it doesn't seem to help local rankings very much. Would this just be a link building job, using hyper-targeted anchor texts (inc. city names) for each product? How do the pro's tackle this problem?

Is there any benefit in on-site duplicate content?
I have about 50 internal pages on my site that I want to add a "Do it yourself tutorial" to in an effort to build the quality of the pages. Is this going to de-value the content if I put it on all 50 pages? It's difficult to write similar content 50 different ways.
