Google+ Business Profile, Places, Company, or Brand
-
We have a company with 2 offices, 1 on each coast. I was wondering what would be the best way to create a google+ business page for this to maximize them? We'd like to show a nationwide presence with 2 offices. Are there any downsides to picking any 1 of these?
To clarify, there are 3 choices: local business, brand, and company. Which of the 3 would you recommend for a company with a nationwide presence and 2 offices?
-
This is what I said in my post, was I not clear enough?
"Personally I would have a single Google+ account for your business"
"You could then add each of your offices to Google Places as separate entities, to target the different areas"
-
True, Ben. Well...you know Google...they change their policies frequently, so this might change at some point, too. If they handle + at all the same way that they've handled Places, changes are certain to happen in their guidelines and policies over the years.
-
Try a local business page for each site and one company or brand one to cover general company things that aren't specific to each office.
-
I would have thought Google would have allowed you to change it. What if you stopped being a local business and grew to be international, surely you would want to change your profile type from 'Local business' to 'Company, Institute or Organization'.
Are Google assuming then, that companies will only ever be one type of business? Seems a little short sighted to me.

Hi Ben,
According to this article, you can't change the category once you've set it:
Good question, BTW.

Is there a way to change your google+ profile type after the profile has been created? So change from a local business to a company/institution/organization page?
-
Hi Llya, As you mentioned in the question that you have a company with 2 offices. SO It would be better to choose a category of Company, Institution & organization.
I would like to recommend you the company category because Local Business or Place is for hotels, restaurants, places, etc & Products or brands is for apparel, cars, electronics and financial services.
Thanks

Hi Ilya,
This is the first time I've had this question come up, and unfortunately, Google+ for businesses is still so new-ish that I can't find any convincing documentation that speaks to the benefits/drawbacks of opting for any of the 3 different categories you've cited.
My belief is that you would be best to go with the Local Business category, especially if you are taking advantage of Google Places for your business model, but I need to be clear that this is based on my early opinions on this and not on any sources I can cite or data that has been aggregated. Sounds like good material for a blog post!
I will leave this thread as 'unanswered' in case any of our members have a different opinion to share. So far, in Local, every local business I've worked with or heard about is choosing the Local category...but you may have some other reasons specifically relating to your company that would pull you towards choosing one of the other options. Without knowing more about your business model, and without more documentation on this topic to study, I think we're all making those early-days type of decisions right now with Google+

Personally I would have a single Google+ account for your business (with a link from both sites going to the same profile). You could then add each of your offices to Google Places as separate entities, to target the different areas.
You could list them on Google Places as:
<company name=""><street>, East Coast</street>
<state>,</state></company><company name=""><street>, West Coast
<state>,</state></street></company>As far as what type of profile you choose I can't really comment on the differences between a local business page compared with a company page. To me 'Company, institution, or Organization' would be a single world-wide entity, whereas a 'Local Business or Place' would be a business with a single shop or a place of interest.
I would say that after a good 30 minutes of looking around on the Internet and Google help pages its a bit unclear as to what the difference is between the profile types, but I hope this helps.

SaaS to manage Several Google Places/G+ accounts
Hi, how are you? I have a client that is a company that has aproximately 30 franchises. For each franchise, I created a Google Places (now My Business) profile, and then for each profile I have a G+ profile. The problem is that I need a SaaS or a software that allows me to post in each of those profiles automaticaly, like Hootsuite (when I enter with the account I have registered the Places profiles, it catches the G+ profile of that person, not the GPlaces accounts). Do you know any? Thanks!

How Should I Optimise Feature Images for Google+ Interactive Post Snippets?
Hi there, I'm in the middle of optimising my site to create decent sharing snippets to improve the overall experience and quality for visitors. One thing I've come up against though is trying to balance site design with the requirements of schema.org and Google+ I've recently just altered the layout of my site to now visually display a brief post description to go into the Rich Snippet Google+ creates, but the images Look a little bit shorter than what they could be. I'm curious to how I could perhaps serve a dedicated image for the Google+ snippet (a square cropped version of the large feature image that's given to each post) while avoiding forcing all users to load a second image I don't even really want to show. I'm also in the middle of deciding what content to prefill the post text with, I'm thinking about tagging my own Google+ id and maybe using some post relevant hash tags too. Does that sound like a good idea? Thanks for 95e0ec7c46e6e66c0a966089d7805813

How can I have mistaken identity Facebook work history removed from uncooperative person's profile?
My client, a cosmetic surgeon in Lynnwood, WA was attacked earlier today on Facebook by the supposed ex-wife of a cosmetic surgeon in Arizona with whom they have no association. The other practice has a name that is close, but there is absolutely no relationship between the two. We promptly removed the comments from my client's wall and images and blocked the person who posted them. Unfortunately she has posted in her work history on her own page that she works for my client's practice and blocking her has not removed my client's name, logo or fb link from her page. This poster's comments are so tragic and bizarre I'm honestly not sure she is a real person, though the doctor she mentions in her posts does appear to have a real practice in AZ. I could not find a way to report to Facebook that she did not in fact work for my client at any time. I have so far had no response from her to my request to remove it from her About page and due to the bizarre nature of the comments, I don't well trust she'll follow through. How can I have this erroneous work history removed from this person's profile page? Facebook FAQ offered no answers. Thank you.

We have a profile on Facebook, with around 5.000 likes, and as far as im concerned the important thing on Facebook is to get people to share your links? Google+ At the moment we dont have a Google+ account, but my suggestion would be that we create one . maybe not to generate alot of content, but in order to get more info on the branded search results - and i have a presumption that Google will put more and more emphasis on Google+ in the updates that lies ahead. Twitter We have a profile, but are there anything we could do in order to optimize the SEO-effect via Twitter - what i have heard is that because their links are no-follow it dosent have any effect on SEO. Instagram
Is there anything to gain on SEO if you create a profile on Instagram? Please let me hear your views on this. Thanks in advance.0 -

What effect does Google Plus Business Pages have on SEO?
It looks like Google is putting a definite emphasis on social signals, through Google+ anyway. Has anyone tested the effect of social circles on SEO yet? Same effects as the "magical +1 button?" +1 on shifting your time and resources to Social Media?

What can Google tell from a video?
I notice that Youtube apparently does kind of an automatic transcription. What can Google tell about a video? Is it comparing text from a voice recognition transcript? Can it take compare the waveform of a video signal and see how different a video is from another video? I'm putting together a variety of videos that are similar for different pages and wondering how much do I have to change for each video. I remember one time I attempted to launch a video that was an exact copy but with a different file name, title and tags and Youtube said, "hey, that's the same video!" Thanks!
