How on earth can http://www.plimun.com/ be at #6 for "web design", with only 15 total linking root domains, and no mention of the term in link text?!

Hmm. OSE only reports 323 external links site-wide. But I get 1620 from SEO Spyglass (which are likely to be mostly trash).

Quality over quantity - again!
And links from pages that will visited, that will get you clicks and referral traffic, are therefore likely to be the most valuable (in the real world and in the Google algorithm).

They have over 58,000 backlinks (recorded) and most of them with the anchor text "web design". I think that should answer your question.

I tend to gravitate towards content first, then links. And, as this site proves, having a few popular links is more important than having a lot of allinanchors with your keywords. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see Google has devalued allinanchors since most social signal links rarely, if ever, have them.

Authority is also a function of diversity. If I were the owner of that site, I wouldn't be resting on my laurels. At this point, a gust of SEO wind could probably knock them from their perch.

Also, none of the inbound link text includes the keyphrase. All the link text is the domain name, according to OSE.
So is Google really just combining the on-page "aboutness" with the high value of the handful of inbound links, and assuming this is more about "web design" than the plethora of other sites?
(I'm not competing on this, just using it for research.)

Thanks Highland. So they've developed a couple of extensions and get a few backlinks from a DA:100 site.
If that's enough to get to #6 on Google, I wonder why it hasn't also raised the Domain Authority of plimun.com?

They have several one-way links from joomla.org, which is a naturally popular site (they have a Moz authority of 100, which is the highest you can get).
They also have a dedicated content page for web design

How important is a keyword rich domain name for ranking?
I've read that Google has lowered the relevancy of a keyword rich domain name in recent years, but I have a scenario with a client that makes me think otherwise. My client has a particular phrase that they're trying to get rank for and are currently in position 3 of Google. Their primary competitor has position1. Using the Keyword Analysis in Moz Pro, my client has a competitor beat out in Page Authority (45 vs 36), # Root Domains Linking to Page (98 vs 9), Domain Authority (35 vs 24), and # Root Domains Linking to Domain (122 vs 15). The main difference is that the competitor has the exact phrase as part of their domain. Other than that, the phrase (on my client's site) is used in title tags, heading tags, and throughout page content. I can provide additional information if necessary, but does anybody have any general advice about this scenario?

Can you see if you have a penalty / downgrading for a keyword stuffed title tag ?
We’ve recently seen a gradual drop in organic listings for a site, the site has according to OSE the highest stats when compared to all its competitors. Im beginning to think the site may be being penalised for an unnatural title tag. One of our blog posts (http://dress.yournextshoes.com/celebrities-dresses-skirts-wind/) used to rank well for "windy skirt", but we're not ranking anymore. When I search for "windy skirt", all the top 10 results are Youtube videos. Is anyone else seeing this? gs1eVsn

Why has my authority article gone from P1 to below the top 50? Along with the rest of my site...
My site has run into some serious and unexplained SEO issues over the last 6 months, i.e: I wrote the content at http://www.flatroofs.co.uk/flat-roof-insulation/ about 3-4 years ago, and ever since it's competed for position with the huge PLC websites and hovered around the top 3 spots in google.co.uk. However, since May this year things have declined rapidly and now isn't even in the top 50 for [flat roof insulation]! Why?? I am aware that this content has been pretty heavily plagiarised since day 1, with some other sites making the effort the 'rehash' my wording and others just blatantly copying. At the same time it's also been relatively well linked to (for a very boring subject) since day 1. Over the same period (since May) the site has suffered a huge decline in traffic and rankings, as can be seen here http://www.flatroofs.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Capture.png, but I find the huge drop harder to justify for a relevant article than for the homepage/site in general. What strikes me about the above is the two step changes in traffic volume; one in early June and the other in late October. I am vaguely aware of the penguin update etc, but it seems to me like I've been manually banished somehow? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Why is my website not in the top 3 if our Moz statistics are better?
Hi, We've been using Moz, for our E-commerce sites, for some time now and are improving all of our statistics, be it on-page for specific keywords or general crawl errors, but I've not been seeing a lot of change in our rankings... (we've moved from place 7 to 6 on our main keyword). I'm thinking of looking at our backlinks, through Link Detox, after we finish our Moz optimisation to see if anything weird is going on with that. Are there any other areas I should be looking at? any other clues as to why we're not ranking higher than our competitors. Even if our Moz statistics are better and our Market Samurai values are similar? Thank you very much! Alexander

What To Focus On SEO / Link Building for this campaign to rank again..
Hi All; I recently joined Moz and I am really starting to learn a lot here. I am still finding it difficult to figure out what to focus on the most to improve my rankings (although I do have some page 1 ranks) I have one strong competitor who has a SOLID spot in the top 5 of google for the past few years for the keyword I would like to be ranked for again. (as they have always been a competitor of mine either 1 spot above or 1 spot below). then i fell off google in January and finally made it back to page 1. But their links are thousands higher than mine. What parts of my SEO Link Building should I focus on the MOST to improve my ranking to move up a few spots? Followed links vs No Followed Links Followed Linking Root Domains vs NoFollowed Linking Root Domain Any help would so greatly be appreciated; also please explain why you would focus on that part of my campaign so I can better understand as well. How can I find the pages on my site with the highest page rank?
I have a lot pages on my site and I'm wondering if there is a tool out there that will find all the pages with the highest pagerank for me? Also, it would be helpful to find that on competitors sites as well. Any ideas?

Image only site on top of Google
Hi Everyone, I'm trying to rank in Google for 'Hid xenon' in the netherlands, but there is one site above all results: http://bit.ly/qlsjne As you can see the site almost has no backlinks, and has not a single word in it's content, all images. it's a keyword only domain, and that's probably the only reason why it's ranking that high, but that means then that i can never get higher then him in Google because of it's domainname? Even when it's such a shitty site? Thank you, regards yannick
