Hyphens in Page Titles?
-
We are using a combination of keywords using our brand name. So the keyword is structure as:
brand name - word (separated by a hyphen)
When I run a report on the page for the keywords that have the above format, the report tells me that I need to use the keyword in the title of the page.
Is it okay to have hyphens in Page Titles? I assume not, but I want to double check.
Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex - have you considered using a format such as this for your title tags -
Word | Brand Name
However to actually answer your question it is fine to use hyphens I have several well ranked pages that use a hyphen in the title tag and this has not caused me any issues - out ranking sites that don't use the hyphen format. The thing I would think about though is having your brand regularly coming before anything else in the title tag that's why I suggested the format above - just a suggestion. You can still rank well for branded keywords with your brand being second in the title tag order.

Then, why when I do a report and the keyword consists of brand name - another word, On Page Analysis Report Tool tells me that I need to put the keyword in the title tag? Is it just a bug in the tool then?

you mean in the <title>tag? yes you can use hyphens.</p></title>

No page authority for https and www versions
In Moz page onsite explorer, I'm getting a page rank of 1 for https://productcategory, and www./productcategory, but for the non-www version, I have a page rank of 33. The DA for each link is 25 Google is indexing my https:// version of my site (with the page rank of 1). Could this be why I'm getting outranked by my competitors (who have no content on their page, no links, and a lower domain and page authority than me?) Does this indicate some kind of issue with my redirections or settings in google search console? I would love to know how to fix this if it could be causing issues Thanks

Is my 404 page set up correctly?
HI there! In using a few different tools, and I have received varied result concerning my 404 page. In WebSite Auditor from Link Assistant, it says my page is set up incorrectly. My webmaster has told me that it is set up correctly, but at this point I'm not entirely sure what's what. Is there another way to test it? I guess i'm not quite sure about the jargon and what "return 404 response code" actually means. Thanks for your help!

Listing of all Google Indexed Pages
I started managing a site that has about 391,000 indexed pages. I want to get to the bottom of why there are so many in preparation for a ecommerce Migration and improving SEO. Anyone know of a tool? Many tools I have came across can only take 100 at a time. I would love to get them in excel or a database. I look forward to the suggestions.

Benefits of reducing on page links
This is more of a discussion point. What would be the measurable results of reducing the number of on page links, specifically on a home page, but let's assume by way of a large navigation menu most of the pages have a lot of links" For instance, would any of the stats on the MozBar be affected (let's start with the home page). Would the Page Authority or MozRank change at all, perhaps because there is less "juice" flowing out of the home page? Thanks! 🙂

Duplicate page titles are the same URL listed twice
The system says I have two duplicate page titles. The page titles are exactly the same because the two URLs are exactly the same. These same two identical URLs show up in the Duplicate Page Content also - because they are the same. We also have a blog and there are two tag pags showing identical content - I have blocked the blog in robots.txt now, because the blog is only for writers. I suppose I could have just blocked the tags pages.

Redirecting duplicate .asp pages??
Hi all, I have a bit of a problem with duplicate content on our website. The CMS has been creating identical duplicate pages depending on which menu route a user takes to get to a product (i.e. via the side menu button or the top menu bar). Anyway, the web design company we use are sorting it out going forward, and creating 301 redirects on the duplicate pages. My question is, some of the duplicates take two different forms. E.g. for the home page: www.<my domain="">.co.uk

www..<my domain="">.co.uk/index.html
www.<my domain="">.co.uk/index.asp</my></my></my> Now I understand the 'index.html' page should be redirected, but does the 'index.asp' need to be directed also? What makes this more confusing is when I run the SEOMoz diagnostics report (which brought my attention to the duplicate content issue in the first place - thanks SEOMoz), not all the .asp pages are identified as duplicates. For example, the above 'index.asp' page is identified as a duplicate, but 'contact-us.asp' is not highlighted as a duplicate to 'contact-us.html'? I'm a bit new to all this (I'm not a IT specialist), so any clarification anyone can give would be appreciated. Thanks, Gareth0 -
How to check Page Authority in bulk?
Hey guys, I'm on the free trial for SEOmoz PRO and I'm in love. One question, though. I've been looking all over the internet for a way to check Page Authority in bulk. Is there a way to do this? Would I need the SEOmoz API? And what is the charge? All I really need is a way to check Page Authority in bulk--no extra bells and whistles. Thanks, Brandon
