Why are good authority links to my site not showing?
-
Hi, about a month ago, I obtained a couple of good authority external links into my client's site. One of these is from a local government site, ie a .gov.uk website, which has a Domain Authority of 99 according to OSE and a page authority of 67.
However, these links are not showing up in SEOmoz or OSE and the domain authority of my client's site has not changed. Why do the links not show? Surely a period of 5 weeks is long enough for these links to be indexed?
-
Unfortunately, we are experiencing a delay, due to an attempt to expand and improve the crawl. I don't have an exact ETA, but this is our TOP priority and we definitely regret the issues people are having.
I would double-check that Google has indexed and re-cached the page with the link on it. It's not instantaneous, in practice. Also make sure the link isn't nofollow'ed, etc.

Hi Cornel, yes they are on the Webmaster tools so that is helpful at least. Thanks for responding.
-
Thanks, it looks like the next update will be next week sometime. Thanks very much for this Duoweb.

OSE has been pretty slow for me too. Try looking up your backlinks at www.alexa.com or your webmaster tools.
-
Our website is live for 3 months now and it's still not indexed by he OSE.
So ... patience ... but you should be able to see the link in our Webmaster Tools.

Normally every four weeks, now it has been a while:
http://apiwiki.seomoz.org/w/page/25141119/Linkscape Schedule for the update shedule.

Hi Maureen
In that case it seems that duoweb is most probably right about it.
-
Hi there, that's interesting - do you know how long it usually takes for OSE to be updated?
-
My guess is that the linkindex from OSE still hasn't been updated, and therefore is not showing your new backlinks.
-
Hi Ivaylo, thanks for responding. I just checked the robots.txt and the list of disallowed pages does not included any pages in the section where my client's link is located.
-
Hi, Are you sure that the authoritative websites that you have placed the links on aren't blocking the SEOmoz crawler? Just check their robots.txt which should be located under authoritativedomainname.com/robots.txt.

Backlinks vs External Links vs Referral Links vs Outbound links
Hello all, I was just wondering if you could explain the difference between all the links above? I'm confused as they all seem to be the same or similar and I would just like to clearly know what distinguishes them from eachother. Thanks for your help, Jayne

Inbound link is follow link but we put no follow link back - is it beneficial for rankings?
Dear Moz Community, We are operating in a niche market, where there are not so many content marketing options. What we are left with are link exchanging with relevant sites that are on the same topic but to not directly compete with us. Now we know that if we link back to site A and site a links back to us - for google this is not a very good link. But, some of the sites we are exchanging links with, do not know the term follow vs no follow links. My question - if your link is to site A is a no follow link but they give us a follow link - does it mean thats a better option than a follow vs follow. Thanks for help!

Back links from sites like Wix & Wordpress.
Sorry for the newb question. If you get a back-link from a blogger on wordpress will you get any of the 'link juice' from the platform. i.e) from the Wordpress site. I'm talking about bloggers whose URL's would be like...www.wordpress.com/bloggersitename I imagine not, but it would be good to know for sure. Isaac.

Unable to view link from Apprentices gov.uk site
Hi, I've noticed that when some companies are advertising for apprentices on the https://apprenticeshipvacancymatchingservice.lsc.gov.uk website they gain a followed link from the site. When I then use opensiteexplorer the link doesn't show. Does anyone know the reason for Moz not picking this up? Am I not giving it long enough to show? Your help would be very much appreciated.

Google Link Disavow and sites with extremely heavy but poor link metrics
Need help/opinions from the SEO's out there. I am working with a site that in the past hired an SEO company out of India. Over the course of their time together, this company submitted the clients url to tens of thousands of link exchanges and directories. Around the time of Penguin, the owners told me their inquiries dried up. Literally that same week they had a new website launched (designed by a local competitor) that really butchered the site. They were convinced the reduction in traffic/inquiries was due to the new site but I am convinced otherwise (suspect Penguin). Not only does the site need to be re-structured but their link portfolio needs to be diversified. Now on the plus side, the company caters and sponsors a number of events that earns them organic, relevant links. These are overshadowed by the tons of poor, irrelevant ones though. I read a few posts recently on the Google Link Disavow tool and to proceed slowly due to the unknown nature surrounding it. I have a good idea of what links are problematic and which ones are well served. However, the number of problematic links in my estimation is quite high (thousands). I am very hesitant to dive into Google Disavow and submit such a large number of requests. What are your thoughts? How would you proceed?

Is it worth it to link to sites that link to you in guest posts?
Suppose you published a guest post on a quality site and you link to a previous guest post you have written for another site (which links to you). In theory you could send link juice to the page that links to you for a second order effect. Has anyone seen results from this tactic?

When link building is returning little success, what is a good plan b?
I know that in an ideal world you would be able to create an amazing site with great content that every one would link to. But what if you're not able to so this, what if you the market you're in is very competitive and you're struggling to find good link partners. I know I can submit to directories and article/press sites but surely this isn't enough to get me any where near my desired goal! I guess I'm asking: is gaining reciprocal links the be and end all of Serps, am I missing any other SEO techniques to get my site higher up the rankings?
