How to set up Google Local for regional branches?
-
Hi our company is expanding and we are opening up branches throughout the UK. I want to register a Google Local for each of our new branches. How is best to do this?
My exposure to Google Local is somewhat limited, though I have set up single businesses before, I've never dealth with multiple addresses.
Any help or advice would be great!
Thanks
Aran

In addition to Malcolm's suggestions, just be sure you follow the guidelines to the letter to avoid penalties. That's very important.

Thanks all for the info.

The best practice for places is just to input as much detail as possible. For each 'place' page there is possibility to add images/videos/opening hours and more. Use as much of this available info as possible. You should maybe start with one business location and experiment with what info you can put into it through the place page.
Remember that the main aim of the Google place is for local users to find your business, you want these listings to show up with your [keyword] x [location].

Yep Google places rather...Told you my exposure was limited!
I understand the mechanics of the upload and set up. I think I may have worded my question incorrectly.
I'm looking for tips on creating 'well optimised' Google Places for each of my other business locations. Are ther any best practises to follow, or is it as simple as uploading the CSV and were done?

Hi Aran,
If your business is going to operate 10 or more locations, I believe this is the page you're looking for:
http://support.google.com/places/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=178024
This page describes the process of creating a bulk upload spreadsheet.
Alternatively, you can do each listing manually. Just be sure you follow all of the guidelines that Malcolm has linked to in the Google Places Quality Guideline page.
Does this answer your question? Please, just let me know if you intended something else.

Set yourself up with an account from there you can 'edit a data file' and all you have to do is enter the multiple addresses in a spreadsheet and upload. More information on uploading multiple business addresses here http://support.google.com/places/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=107528

Yahoo Newspaper Consortium... What can my local newspaper offer me that Yahoo Ads won't?
Hi Everyone 🙂 I was recently approached by the Vancouver Sun and the Province (our major newspapers in BC), and they said they had an "exclusive partnership" with Yahoo. I can't seem to find much information on it... what is the "Yahoo Newspaper Consortium" and is there any benefit for me going with what the newspapers offer rather than doing our own thing with Yahoo Ads? Any resources or info is appreciated 🙂

Do you think its ethical to use your personal google authorship for outsourced content?
I routinely outsource nicely written content but never use my google authorship for those articles. Should I be adding my google authorship to those articles? Or would that be unethical and violate googles TOS?

Google displays the wrong store hours. Can anyone help lead me to the fix?
When doing the following search on Google "Ticket King Milwaukee hours" we see the wrong hours displayed at the top of the page. Just to the left of our places page, you will see "Tuesday hours 8:30-1:00 pm." That 1 pm closing comes up for every weekday, even though we are open until 6 pm weekdays, and 3 pm on Saturdays. I have checked the hours listed on our G+ page, our "Places for Business" page, our "about us" page on our website, and can't find where they are getting this incorrect data. I even went out and checked most of the "List your business" sites that I have registered with.

I have submitted this to Google, but have not heard back. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this, or at least find out where this bad data is coming from? I did find a company blog post from 2010 that listed our ours in a somewhat confusing way, but it was still correct. (I have since fixed that old post.)0 -
How To Rebrand A Company In The Eyes of Google?
Greetings, Nearly 6 years ago, our company switched its entire business model from providing customized vitamins to a women's health publisher that offers medical advice, news and health tips. We have actively developed a decent link profile for our new brand around women's health and specific health conditions. Nonetheless the old vitamin-related keyword profile is still very prevalent. We have many hundreds of links with old vitamin-related anchor text scattered across the web linking to our main site and to many vitamin mini-sites that we own. What is the best way to rebrand ourselves and basically eliminate this old link profile? My first thought is to immediately park / take down all our vitamin-related domains, and eventually these links will no longer carry any weight in the eyes of Google. The other strategy is to attempt to contact all the sites with the old anchor text and ask them to take the links down. This is not an exciting option to me as I know that this is tedious and a slow process with many dead-ends. Thanks in advance for any advice. Kind regards, Eric Darby

What can i do to regain top 3 for local map listings if I already created a bunch of citation link to my site?
I got hit by a penguin refresh on Oct 5th and lost over 10 #1 rankings. I'm currently #4 on the places listing for my main keyword and really trying to regain top 3 position. I created a bunch of local citation with matching info and really piped out my map listing since it is 100% complete. I'm quite stumped on how to further optimize my map listing to where i can hit top 3 positions. Does anyone have any recommendations on this issue? Thanks Sam

Strategies for getting more listings on first of google
We have a client who is looking to increase the number of results on page 1 of google for their brand name to essentially force some historical negative comments off page 1 of google. I am thinking of things like a twitter page, Facebook page, YouTube page etc. plus optimising their site to try and get multiple pages on page 1. Does any one have experience of doing the same sort of thing?

Creative way to secure local addresses for Google Places?
For those of us that operate business in other areas that we technically dont have an "address" in... are there any creative ideas/ways anyone has run across in securing a physical address that you can use for local listing? I have already tried the virtual office type of companies, and their inventory is limited to major metropolitan areas.
