Outsourced link building?

My company is looking at outsourcing part of our SEO - some supplementary link building to boost some deep links. What does the SEOmoz community think of outsourcing link building? Every company that I've researched seems to employ very low quality techniques, which ends up with a bunch of spammy/sidebar/links page/comment links.
Are there companies that specialise in high quality link building? We would definitely be looking for people that would do things like write engaging guest posts, etc, rather than spamming our brand across the internet. Are there any lessons that you've learned that you can share with me?

There are only quite a few high quality SEO teams who specialise in linkbuilding and these guys definently charge a premium.
Alec the best advice I can give you is to actually develop a specialist inhouse or hire an external freelancer that will take on a bulk of the work. Specifically having a specialist inhouse brings many benefits which include:
- Over the long term you are reducing costs to the business.
- They will actually care more about the work they are doing and find relevant links. Plus they have more understanding of the client.
- They can work along with other SEO's in the team - economies of scale.
- They will work to build a quality database source of referring domains (applicable to each industry), which can be used again and again. You are essentially building this database as a USP for your clients. This will give you leverage to charge more for your work.
To do all this you will need to automate alot of the research related processes when finding links. Scaling linkbuilding inhouse or externally also requires a great project management software where you can effectively track each task.

You will possible find SEO agencies which will create quality backlinks, I have no doubt regarding this. But will you find company which will do that cheap? - I do not think so.

Does anyone have solely used fresh web explorer for link building?
hello, As far I am concerned one of the best link building strategies is broken link building. But what about if you reverse the tactic and you build links using only fresh web explorer? Anyone have tried this or not yet? If yes, results are good? I will try it soon on a new site ...and some info regarding results would be appreciated. Is RU white hat link building possible?
According to my RU content/SEO person all the major websites/blogs in RU asked for payment to post an article... and there is no advice in RU/Yandex for implementing white hat methods. I work for a gaming company, so trying white hat is difficult in any country.... but still seems worth trying. Does anyone have experience or advice about RU link building?

Content optimisation or Link Building first? Small clients & small budgets
Hi there. Apologies in advance for this long message! I have come from a large client-side SEO position where I had a small team of online marketers to assist in our SEO efforts. The effect was that we were able to work on link building and onsite optimisation at the same time and obviously give it 100% of our attention (and the website had very high DA and Trust). I have recently moved to a small agency where I am the sole SEO-Guy and my clients are small. I typically have no more than 8 hours to spend per month on all aspects of SEO (analysis, reporting, link building and content optimisation) per client and I have to strictly adhere to this. To make matters more difficult, these clients typically have weak back-link profiles (low in number and quality and all pointing to the home page) and poorly optimised content (which contributes to low DA & PR). I went through my first 'monthly process' for a particular client in September and focused my 8 hours on optimising the site content for a particular section of the website. This involved optimising meta titles & descriptions, body content and images for our chosen keywords. I didn't focus on links at all. I published the changes to the site on 23rd September. When I look at my rankings as of 6th October, one keyword in particular has dropped by 28 places (from 11 to 39) which seems excessive to me. In my mind, the changes I made were small, so this drop concerns me. The particular URL was ranking in position 11 for a keyword that I subsequently targeted to another (more relevant) page in the site. Both pages have the same MR, PA and links etc. I think I may have effectively cannibalised the keyword and to make matters worse, the new page isn't even in the top 50! Both pages are in the Google Index. So, this is my longwinded way of asking for your opinion on whether other SEOs in my position would recommend spending time on building the back link profile to strengthen DA and PR of deeper pages before you start making content optimisations (given I am unable to do them at the same time). It's tricky with small clients as they don't necessarily understand how long these things can take. Cheers! Laurie

I received an invite from a company to enter a contest for a chance to win a prize. The contest is run by Rafflecopter. Rafflecopter looks interesting because you can place the contest anywhere including social sites and your own website. Contestants can increase the chances of winning in various ways such as an FB like, tweet, etc. The largest number of points (for this particular contest) are awarded for linking from your website to their website. Given that the contestant must add the link to their website and the sponsoring company can not control whether they use nofollow, couldn't this contest approach to link building cause problems for SEO? If the contest included instructions to copy and paste the html with a nofollow, that would seem like a better solution, but the only guidance given was to link to their home page. Your thoughts?
