Redirect a blog category page to the homepage?
-
Hi folks
Following Penguin 1.1, I have a client site at number 5 for their primary keyword. (was creeping up page 2 with whitehat link building and tight on-site SEO.)
However now the page ranking at No. 5 is for a blog category archive. What do people think the quickest / safest way to get this ranking directed back to the homepage is?
Many thanks
Simon

Thanks Martin - the site is ecommerce, and the category pages are blog posts. The homepage links directly to product categories, the use of the blog is quite new and the blog category looks pretty awful right now...
But the listing keeps jumping in and out of the top 10, when its gone the homepage is back, and last seen at bottom of page 1.
I like your ideas, and will look to make the category page more appealing...
Cheers
Simon

Why does the homepage need to rank rather than the category page? By it not being the home page that suggests the category page is actually more relevant to that keyword.
So what you should do is add more great content onto the category page and check your on-page optimisation then build some links directly to that category page.
The homepage is not always the most relevant page for a searcher. If you want people to go back to your homepage then provide some on-page encouragement on the category page instead.
Unless you have a compelling reason that the homepage should be the one that ranks, because at this point, Google appears not to agree with you

Pages or Blog posts?
Hi, I am currently building content for a customer's website. There are approximately 50 new content pages I am building about the business, products they serve, how-tos and tips and advice. The website is built on Wordpress so my question is would it be best to post this content as a different blog posts or as separate pages in Wordpress and link them up to a 'hub page' as mentioned on this post about How to rank (point 16) Thanks for any advice.

Home Page
We are re-design our home page, one are of the current home page has a drop down window called "popular products" . We wrote short articles for our keywords and have them linked to product page. In the past, it has helped us rank. However, with new Google rules, our feeling is that such practice is no good. So, we lean towards to remove it. Still, we'd like to hear some opinions and ask some questions too: www.butterflycraze.com is it clear to you that this is not good in Google's eyes? how do I determine if these links serving any SEO purpose now after Panda? depend on the answer to 2), what should we do about these pages? shall be re-direct or shall we remove them from Google index?

Homepage ranking before optimized page
We finally managed to obtain a spot in the first 10 positions of the serps for our main keyword. Since a week, our homepage started ranking in the top 15 as well, so we we're pretty excited about that. On our way to dominate the top 10! Since 2 days we started to rank with our homepage before our optimized page, which sucks because the metadescription (made up by Google) isn't helping our CTR. Is there a way that we can show Google that the other page is more relevant than the homepage? Or do we have to wait until we have build up enough PA to switch places with the homepage (seems unlikely to me).

Page Rank
I had just made a 301 re-direct on one of our product pages which had a PR of 4, now that Google has indexed the new page, it's now got a PR of 0, i'm struggling to understand why this could be, i know that you may see a drop of 1, which has happened in the past, but this drop just does not make sense. Any ideas of why this could be? Kind Regards
