Far away from top 50, am i doing it wrong or does it come down to linkbuilding?
-
Im currently far away from top 50 of a very crucial search term i google.
Its my frontpage and the search term is aimed towards the city i live in
Im having a hard time determing if its just a matter of linkbuilding.
My concrern is if google have some kind of punishment on my frontpage or if the page.
It could be a combination of SEO optimization that is not good enough and too little external links for the time being.
The page has been live for a small month.
Im in Denmark so there is no "sandbox"
my frontpage can be visited here:
http://www.nikolajgrundtvig.dkIts in Danish, but you should have a idea of the structure and the amount of text on the page
Im a photographer btw
Best reguards!

Thanks for even more valuable input
I guess i need to run the tool and then see how i can get some good "dofollow" links to back my frontpage up.
Am i correct if it could take quite some time for google to catch up on the external links?

I'm assuming that the term you're targeting is "fotograf i odense".
I'd recommend running your homepage through the SEOMoz on page optimization tool.
You're showing up within the top 100 which is a good start. If you can build some links to the site you should quickly rise up to the top 50.
Although I should warn you that until you get to page 1 (and maybe page 2) you won't really see a large increase in organic traffic.
-
Thanks a lot for your detailed reply
You are indeed correct that "Odense" is my targeted city.
The search term is "Fotograf Odense" (Photographer Odense)
I guess i need to add my city some more, i was just afraid of "over optimizing" the site
Most of my traffic has been going from Facebook, but im trying to find potential linkbuilding possibilities and considering making a blog on my site to build more rapidly updated content.
I have some links "out and about", but i guess there is no data hauled about this yet.

Hi Nikolaj!
If your page only been live for a month it is too early to expect to start ranking. Your domain need some authority, links, and get fully indexed. Sometimes google can be a bit slow in the beginning. Good links will for sure help you out, just don't buy them.
Perhaps a free photo shoot to people who blog about you

Hi Nikolaj,
Having crawled your site there are no major issues I can see.
If you're targeting for your local city which I assume is Odense, you need to include it more on your homepage. I could only find 3 instances of the word Odense on your homepage which is probably not enough.
I did a backlink check and there appears to be no links to your site. Of course there may be some links which aren't showing up in the tools I'm using but this is an indication that you have nowhere near enough links.
I'm not sure if you already have done it, but you could benefit from listing your business in Google places.
Hope this helps,
Adam.

Wrong domain name showing in the SERP
I work with Axos Bank, and the domain name in the SERP started showing axos-services.com a couple of weeks ago. *As a test, search for [axos bank] in Google. You may need to click on "Search instead for axos bank" under "Showing results for axis bank" which is a whole separate issue we want to resolve. They do own axos-services.com, and it redirects to axosbank.com (along with a number of other domains). The SERP has always shown axosbank.com until recently, but the redirect has been in place for some time. Any idea why and how to prompt Google to show the correct domain? Thanks, all!

50 Duplicate URLS, but not the same
Hi According to my latest site crawl, many of my pages are showing up to 50 duplicate urls. However this isn't the case in real life. http://www.fortusgroup.com.au/browse-products/rubber-tracks/excavator-rubber-tracks/hitachi/ex-33mu.html is showing 31 duplicate URL. Examples include: http://www.fortusgroup.com.au/browse-products/rubber-tracks/excavator-rubber-tracks/parts/x430.html

http://www.fortusgroup.com.au/browse-products/rubber-tracks/excavator-rubber-tracks/case/cx-75sr.html Obviously these URL's are very similar and I know that Moz judges URLs by 90% of their similarity, but is this affecting my actual raking on google? If so, what can I do? This pages are also very similar in code and content, so they are also showing as duplicate content etc as well. Worried that this is having an affect on my SERP rankings, as this pages arent ranking particularly well. Thanks, Ellie0 -
What I am Doing Wrong with My Rank
Hi, I am doing something wrong but I don't understand what is the issue. The rank of my website for a particular keyword is by far lower than one of my competitors (they are in top 20 while I am not even in top 50 in google). I did all fixes recommended by MOZ, I have higher number of backlinks (natural built), relatively similar social media activities, bigger content but still I'm far away. Do you have any idea what is wrong? Best, Tony

Website ranking went from page one to not in top 50 overnight. Help/suggestions?
One of our customer's websites initially ranked very well. For approximately 3 months it sat atop of Google for their optimized keywords. Suddenly, on November 17th, the ranking dropped and they were no longer in the top 50 for any keywords. We went through Google Webmaster tools and found no violations, so we emailed Google to see if we violated something and if they would reconsider. They responded "We reviewed your site and found no manual actions by the webspam team that might affect your site's ranking in Google." This is a site built on WordPress, so we turned off a majority of plugins in case one was somehow affecting the site. They have an incredible amount of business partners that link their website from their partner's website menus, so they have about 15,000 links all with anchor text "insurance." (every page on partner site is seen as a different link). Think this is affecting it? Maybe Google sees it as artificial? (P.S. This has been set up this way for a while before they came on with us). The site ranks on page one of Bing and Yahoo, but nowhere in top 50 for Google. Any suggestions? Appreciate the help!

302 redirect and NO DATA as HTTP Status in Top Pages in SEOMOZ Link Analysis
I recently performed a link analysis using SEOMOZ and my home page (top page) indicates that there is a 302 status. Is this bad? Also, 2 other key landing pages have [NO STATUS] as the http status and [NO DATA] for the page title. Could anyone offer insight into what might be happening here, and whether or not it's something that is potentially hurting us? Thanks for your help!

What should I do about links coming in that are from link farm type sites?
I just noticed two back links to a couple of sites around pharmaceuticals/attorneys. The one link is to a chinese site with url: http://e.lifestyle.com.cn/fashionweekly/nzj/353093_2.shtml, and the other is to a site called Adroo: http://adroo.com/us/?view=list&list_id=104154&lang=en. Both appear to be some type of link farm sites, one has come in as a nofollow (surprise, you can buy "ads" on their site, both have decent DA. There is no reason for them to link to theses sites, should I find a way to stop the link? Also, on one of the sites we had a dmoz link and it is not showing in OSE? Link is still open in dmoz though. Thanks for any input.

Ads at the top of the page
hi mozzers, I have a website made in dreamweaver. Right at the very top of all of my pages is a text advert with a link to an affiliate in the ad. This link is very lucrative and gets a lot of sales, but i'm concerned it may have some negatives from an SEO perspective. As it's the first text on every page, i'm guessing bots will read it first. Could this potentially cause problems? If so, is there a best practice that would allow me to keep it there and keep the bots happy? Cheers, Peter
