Hacked - Lost Meta Data
-
Our website was hacked last night and all data lost. I've worked over night to replace the destroyed data which was essentially things like all of our prices, testimonials, etc, etc.
Got that sorted but now notice that all our page meta data has disappeared, title, description, etc.
I'm worried that if I dont' enter the correct data that corresponds to Google "records" that we will lose our page one ranking.
I've gone into Webmaster Tools and also I've used SEOQuake but the pages found have their meta data stripped when I go into "source".
Before I start re-entering what I think would be the correct data I wondered if anyone had any advice please?
Thanks,
Colin

Thanks very much Keri.
It's refreshing to know that people like Doug and yourself care enough to help people like me especially after getting hacked by some of the baddies out there.
Thanks for your advice.
It's much appreciated.

Also don't forget to do the same on Bing! This is one time where it's handy that they seem to be a bit slower in updating things, though they also don't crawl as deeply. If it's an older site and you don't change it too often, the Wayback machine at web.archive.org may also help you out.

Hi Doug, yes it does still show the indexed pages and seems to still have the data too!
I initially tried it using SEOQuake which showed the indexed pages but without the data.
I thought doing it via "site:" with Google would have been the same.
Thanks so much. I'd better get busy!!

If you do a search for site:yourdomain.com on Google is it returning the hacked pages or does the index still list your correct titles?
What about Google's cached paged? Can you still see your old content? If you were only hacked last night Google's cache may still be intact.
What about the Wayback Machine, has that got any of your content indexed?

Structured data: Product vs auto rental schema?
Hi mozzers, If you are rental company, is it useful to add both the product and auto rental schemas or auto rental schema on its own should just be enough? Finally, on the auto rental schema, you have to add an address. Could we just add a city instead of an entire address and avoid receiving a warning message on the strutured data testing tool? Thank you.

Stuctured data for different sized packages
Hi all, We are currently working on implementing structured data to our webshop, for SEO and for google shopping. We sell stones, pebbles, gravel etc. (to be used in gardens).We offer each product in different sized bags. Customers can buy 20KG minibags, 250KG minibags, 500KG midibags, 1500KG bigbags and bulk quantities (ranging from 3000KG up to 35000KG). For example, we sell Black Beach Pebbles in the bags as described as above (+ the bulk quantities). We have a product page for these Black Beach Pebbles and on that product page customers can choose the desired bag or desired bulk quantity. For google shopping, visitors land on these productpages. A while back that caused a problem; the landing page contained different prices so sometimes google could not match the prices on the landing page with the prices in our productfeed (because of course, each bag has a different price). So, besides SEO, another reason for us to implement structured data. I have two questions regarding the implementation. 1. For the landing page as described above, the idea now is to mark 1 product with different offers (an offer for each bag + an offer for the bulk quantities). This raises a problem regarding the bulk quantities; the price of the bulk quantity depends on the chosen quantity (customers can pick the desired bulk quantity using a dropdown) on the productpage. How should we markup the price? The idea know is to markup 1 product with different offers for each bag and 1 aggregate offer for the bulk quantities (and using the lowest price, so the price for the smallest bulk quantity). So, for the Black Beach pebbles: Product = Black beach Pebbles
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | AMAGARD
Offer (= 20KG minibag)
Price = ...
Offer (= 250KG minibag)
Price = ...
Offer (= 500KG midibag)
Price = ...
Offer (= 1500KG bigbag)
Price = ...
AggregateOffer (= Bulk quantities)
Lowprice = ... Is combining Offer and AggregateOffer within 1 product the right solution? 2. For the 1500KG Bigbags and bulk quantities we have separate landing pages (because people specifically search for bigbags and bulk quantities). So those landing pages are dedicated to bigbags / bulk quantities. How should we mark up those pages? Should we for example just do this: On the page for te bigbag:
Product = Black Beach Pebbles 1500KG bigbag
Offer (=Black Beach Pebbles 1500KG bigbag)
Price =.... and on the page for the bulk quantities: Product = Black Beach Pebbles bulk quantities
AggregateOffer (=Black Beach Pebbles bulk quantities)
Lowprice=...... Could that cause any confusion for google, because on the productpage with all the available bags, the bigbag is an offer for the product 'Beach Pebbles Black'. And on the second page it is a product on its own. Thanks in advance! Best!1 -

Pagination & duplicate meta
Hi I have a few pages flagged for duplicate meta e.g.: http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/workbenches?page=2
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | BeckyKey
http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/workbenches I can;t see anything wrong with the pagination & other pages have the same code, but aren't flagged for duplicate: http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/coshh-cabinets http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/coshh-cabinets?page=2 I can't see to find the issue - any ideas? Becky0 -
Should I be using meta robots tags on thank you pages with little content?
I'm working on a website with hundreds of thank you pages, does it make sense to no follow, no index these pages since there's little content on them? I'm thinking this should save me some crawl budget overall but is there any risk in cutting out the internal links found on the thank you pages? (These are only standard site-wide footer and navigation links.) Thanks!

Open Data and SEO - Government sources
Hi Everyone, Does anyone know of a connection between open data and SEO? I think this is a very interesting topic to explore. Lots of governments are jumping on this trend and it seems like Google and other search engines would be interested in this kind of authoritative source. Here are some examples - USA OPEN Data examples Palo Alto, California USA: paloalto.opendata.junar.com Cupertino, California USA: cupertino.opendata.junar.com San Jose California USA: data.sanjoseca.gov Other international Open Data examples Chile: recursos.datos.gob.cl Bahía Blanca, Argentina: http://bahiablanca.opendata.junar.com/dashboards/7844/medio-ambiente/ Lima, Perú lima.datosabiertos.pe

Meta Refresh tag on cache pages- GRRR!
Hi guys, All of our product pages originate in a URL with a unique number but it redirects to an SEO url for the user. These product pages have blocks on the page and these blocks are automatically populated with our database of content. Here's an example of the redirect in place: www.example.com/45643/xxxx.html redirects to www.example.com/seo-friendly-url.html The development team did this for 2 reasons. 1) our internal search needs the unique numbered urls for search and 2) it allows quick redirects as pages are cached. The problem I face is this, the redirects from the cached are being tagged with 'meta refresh', yup, they are 302. The development team said they could stop caching and respond dynamically with a 301 but this would bring in a delay. Speed wise, the cached pages load within 22ms and dynamically 530ms, so yeah half a second more. Currently cached pages just do a meta refresh tagged redirect and I want to move away from this. What would you guys recommend in such a situation? I feel like unless I place a 301, I'll be losing out on rank juice.

Lost Google rankings for the main keywords
Hello everybody, I love seomoz and was enjoying all the benefits it has, was reading Q&A and implementing new marketing strategies for my website. I would really appreciate if anyone could explain my situation. The website, to which I devoted last 12 months of my time, was suddenly dropped from it's main keywords to nowhere 2 days ago, it does not look like a "dance" because some of my competitors lost their rankings too. I think its a penalty. The site http://goo.gl/3VTMq is almost 2 years old, of the highest quality content. I've been adding content slowly over 24 months, building backlinks slowly, the rankings also were going up slowly. Here are some of the keywords I've been ranking for: car insurance companies - 12, best auto insurance companies - 1, top car insurance companies 1, cheap auto insurance - 16, low cost auto insurance 4,lowest auto insurance - 2, and many more... According to seomoz, I have no major problems with on-site seo, I have low bounce rate, high pages/visit and high time on site. There is only one left - incoming backlinks. Google says that it just can't hurt you, but I think this is the only explanation of my problem. My backlinks consist of everything - from high quality contextual backlinks, to lower quality comment backlinks. I used Press Release services too.. This problem is like a nail in my head, I look forward to hearing your response. Thanks in advance, Vaz
