How to run down the actual source of a 404 error that is reported.
-
In my 404 errors, the second entry is as follows:
URL: http://www.virginiahomesandforeclosures.com/listing/0428387-lot-k-commerce-park-franklin-va-23851/REWIDX_URL_CDNimg/no-image.gif
Is there a simple way to find the root or page in which this error was generated? IF I visit this page "
http://www.virginiahomesandforeclosures.com/listing/0428387-lot-k-commerce-park-franklin-va-23851"
without the attached gobble de gook, I see a good page. So bottom line its possible it could be in one of my sitemaps, but I have 50 of those so its time consuming to search thru all 50 for each error like this since I have so many. I am pretty sure its not in my sitemaps, since google has not picked up any of these errors and they have crawled over 12,000 urls so far.
When google gives me a 404 error I can click on the link and find what pages they found the link and go there and correct it at the root.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I have more than 1,000 of these errors with the bad url with the junk attached to the end and have not been able to isolate the cause yet.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Tommy,
Did Ben answer your question, or would you still like some more help with this?

If you export to .CSV and put it into Excel the referring page (referrer) for the 404 error can be seen in column AM.
That should be enough to fix it although if it's a dynamic site it can end up being more complex than that.

New to Moz and wanted a bit of help with my report
Hi, I have used the MOZ report to analyse one of my friends sites and I wanted to query a few warnings it highlighted and I just wanted people's thought on how important they thought these were: The first is dupliate descriptions/titles. This is mainly down the e-commerce pages. Fist duplicate content:

On some pages the description is identical and all that is different is the title and picture, is this an issue? Duplicate pages:
Due to the way the website folder structure/catergories has been created some pages are identical but because the product comes under 2 cetergories there is 2 seperate pages, should we use the canonical on one of the pages? Also regarding the canonical tag, they have put link rel="canonical" on every page and got it to point at itself, so not really being used in the way it is meant to be. Could something like this cause any harm? The final thing is internal linking back to the homepage. If for example the homepage is http://www.test.com, when linking back is it best to put the full URL over "index.html" even though they are the same page? Any help really appreciated Dan0 -
Increase of 404 error after change of encoding
Hello, We just have launch a new version of our website with a new utf-8 encoding. Thing is, we use comma as a separator and since the new website went live, I have a massive increase of 404 error of comma-encoded URL. Here is an example : http://web.bons-de-reduction.com/annuaire%2C321-sticker%2Csite%2Cpromotions%2C5941.html instead of : http://web.bons-de-reduction.com/annuaire,321-sticker,site,promotions,5941.html I check with Screaming Frog SEO and Xenu, I can't manage to find any encoded URL. Is anyone have a clue on how to fix that ? Thanks

Keyword analysis - error with difficulty %
Hello everyone! Edge of all, I like and I use very often the "Keyword analysis" tool . However, recently, I have some difficulty to rely on the difficulty % of the keywords I've added. As an example I entered as keywords for a french speaking client, words with a geographical reference. It gives me a percentage too high because I am almost convinced that it would probably not be difficult to work with. My question is: is there any known errors with keywords georeferenced French (google canada - english) and also what to trust when I want proof of the difficulty of a keyword in case of some errors may occur in the tool.

Bing Not Complete in Ranking Report
Curious as to what the "FRI" image means under Bing on my Keyword Ranking reports? I saw this on Friday and assumed it hadn't crawled yet (as it was to set to crawl on Friday Jan 27, 2012) but here we are Monday AM and I'm still seeing the same thing. Glf4F.jpg
