Client has two Wordpress Folders
-
My client has 2 WP folders (one is the main site, and one was for an added blog, don't ask me why they did it that way).
They sent me the login for Google Analytics, and the first thing I see is 2 profiles, one for the main site, and one for the blog. Doesn't the code in the head of the main page cover ALL the subdirectories too? I could see this if it were a subdomain, but not in a subdirectory.
Thanks in advance.

Ahh... good call John. If he wants everything under one analytics roof that's exactly what to do.
-
Ooh, good idea. Let me send an email to the webmaster and ask him to try that...
-
Just a thought. I'm not sure you have to have two separate GA accounts in this case. Since you have two separate WP installs, couldn't you take the code that's on the main domain and also apply it to the /blog/ installation, using whatever plugin you're using?
The main issue you're running into, I think, is that the GA installation on the main site doesn't automatically work for the /blog/ because of two different installations.
-
I was thinking the same thing with the 2 different WP folders... out of my control and I can't see why either.
-
I could be wrong, but I think they are kept separate in that case.
The WP installation in the root directory (the main site) creates the header code for only the pages that WP installation creates - not all pages that happen to be in other subdirectories.
You're right, though I'm not sure why it was done that way? Maybe it was once just WP for the blog? Maybe they wanted to keep the design different?
But I think in this case the GA accounts are kept isolated. Hopefully I've understood the question. You can always just look at the source code or the analytics themselves too to tell.

Google Analytics, Wordpress, Sumo - who to trust
Something is wrong. I have a website that according to Google Analytics gets zero relevant clicks, with most of the clicks it does get coming from Russia. Wordpress says it gets a hundred or so visitors a month, with most traffic going to the pages that I know rank. Sumo says the heat map got 76 clicks. How would you figure out what's really going on?

We have a client that wants to apply UTM URL tagging to track local organic traffic in Google Analytics. Is there any benefit in doing this?
One of our clients requested that we apply UTM URL tagging to better track organic traffic in Google Analytics. We found this to be an odd request because we are most familiar with UTM tracking for special campaigns (referral tracking, PPC, email tracking, etc). Is there any benefit of applying UTM tags to urls to analyze local organic traffic in Google Analytics? Are there any resources out there about this? Thanks!

Google Search Console (new GWT) - Does a language specific sub folder need its own GSC profile
HI I've got a clients site set which targets 3 language/countries: English via the main site on the domain.com Turkish via a Turkish language site on a subfolder domain.com/tr/ And German via domain.de The devs have set up .com and .de in GSC and is reporting data in both However there's no data in the domain/com/tr GSC profile ! Is that because its on a subfolder so data pertaining to it is being reported in the main domain.com GSC account ? Or does something more need to be done to set up the Turkish subfolder in GSC ? If so what ? All Best Dan

How to turn on persistent urls in WordPress?
I'm using an appointment form on my website and I have the option to add a referral url to form submissions so that i know which pages the form submission came from. I need to be able to distinguish between organically generated form submissions and those that come in via AdWords. If referral url shows the AdWords tracking code i know the form submission came in from AdWords. My problem is that when a visitor comes in after clicking an ad and then visits another page on my website that AdWords tracking code disappears from the url. I was told that there was a way to turn on persistent urls in WordPress but I can't figure out how to do it. I'm assuming that if i turn persistent urls on the AdWords tracking code will remain on every subsequent url that they visit on my website. Is this true? Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

Pro's & Con's of Wordpress Categorys & Tags
Good Afternoon! I touched on this question a while back in another post specifically regarding a plethora of duplicate pages that I was finding due to inappropriate tagging in wordpress. As I am going through our website, I am starting to notice it happening again with categories as well. I am including some pictures where you can see the URL structures and titles etc of how everything is laid out. I would like to clarify that I was not the one who did any of this Is it wrong/bad to cross categorize? What I mean by that is put something in more than one category? Would there be any drawback to converting any of these into subcategories? Would that even do anything? Does having two pages that are named the same thing, hurt you? It would seem to me that Google wouldn't like that. I have recently come into the field of thought that Google is getting more and more human, and If it makes a human uncomfortable/confused it will make Google confused. In my pictures you can see we clearly have numerous hard copies of the same thing, not just duplicate elements created by wordpress, that is a separate issue. I personally want to change all of the titles and make everything as different and individual as possible, but i also could be very wrong in my desire to do that. Any thoughts are appreciated! eY4iX2N N3AVqss JZpU7Rq
