301 redirect via htaccess question

So, I have www.sitea.com and www.siteb.com
I want to redirect SOME pages from www.sitea.com to www.siteb.com (example: www.sitea.com/plugins/wp/ to www.siteb/wp/ etc ) and the rest of any pages left, to the homepage of www.siteb.com.
It is something with conditions... any help, please?

Yes I would do that, it's the best solution, redirect every corresponding page to the new one, and redirect the rest of the pages to the homepage / most relevant area. I can't see any issues with doing it this way.
404's won't transfer any of the weight over to the new site so would be a waste IMO.

@Ben,
There are around 150 pages that have a match on the new site (categories like Self Improvement, Science etc), I can redirect these like:
redirect 301 /category1/ http://www.newdomain.com/category1/
...
...
But, if I do this, the rest of the pages won't have a redirect (there are like 500 various indexed query pages that don't have a mirror on the new domain).
So, let's say I redirect what it has a corespondent on the new domain, I redirect the homepage, about us, contact etc.
But... what will happen with the urls that don't have a mirror?
I was thinking to redirect everything except the 1:1 correspondents to the new website's homepage... is that a wise idea? Or maybe a 404 custom page would be more indicated?
Thanks.

Have you tried using a .htaccess file to redirect individual URLs and then a sitewide one for the others?
If it doesn't let you do this at the same time, redirect the individual pages first, wait until the SEs have picked up on the redirect and then redirect the rest of the site. I would have thought you should be able to do both at the same time though.

How long does Google take to completely authorise 301 redirect?
Will 301 redirect will have immediate impact once the website or that redirected link got indexed? We have recently redirected few links in the process of link reclamation and ranking dropped few days later. Every link we claimed is related to our topic (matched in content and URL) and they have good DA. Even though why it has happened? What are the general rank dropping factors in the process of link reclamation? Thanks, Satish

If you do 302 redirect then change to 301 redirect do you lose all link juice?
Hello everyone, I was wondering if you could help me with understanding the following story: A website has been moved from its HTTP version to a HTTPS version. The SEO manager has advised developers that they needed to do 301 redirects. However, in the end, 302 redirects have been put in place instead. Now, 301s should be put in place ASAP. The million dollar question is: has the website lost all of its link juice already given the nature of the redirects? Also, does it depend on whether Google has indexed the new 302 pages or does it depend on something else? Many thanks!

Domain forward or 301 redirect
My company recently acquired another company including their web presence. We are soon ending their website and will be either 301 redirecting their domain to our domain or pointing their domain to our nameservers. Their domain authority is only 25 while our domain authority is 32. Their domain was created in 1998 while ours was created in 1999. So to keep our domain authority up or enhance it, should we do a 301 redirect or a domain forward. And that is if there is any difference? Thanks Chris

301 redirects and Blogger - moving blog
Is there any way to add 301 redirects to individual posts on a blogger-hosted blog? We're getting ready to finally move our blog off of Blogger and onto our own webserver. We're probably going to use BlogEngine.net to run it. right now the blog is located at blog.MySite.com. We're probably going to move it to MySite.com/Blog. We don't have any really popular posts and we only really get ~10 visits a day on about 70 posts. Just trying to figure out the best way to handle this without inadvertently shooting myself in the foot.

Undo a 301 redirect
Hi there, 4 months ago I have done a redirect from one domain to another. Now, after about 120 days I have just a few results from the old domain indexed. The problem is that I believe that the old domain name had a really big impact on rankings, as it had the main keyword in the domain name. I'm wondering now if I could restore the old domain just by taking out the 301 instruction and how will search engines react. Do you have any studies on that? Would it be possible? Matt Cutts himself did it with his own domain, but he doesn't talk specifically on the effect of the rankings: http://www.thedotcomblog.com/seo/redirects-after-change-in-domain-name Thanks in advance for any help,

301 redirect for ip address in SERPs
Hi, I've recently had the misfortune of my site's ip address being crawled and indexed by Google, which is causing some duplicate content issues. Due to the nature of the site we're not able to implement a canonical tag to fix this at present. Would a 301 redirect do the trick, and if so, could someone point me to what I'd need to add to our .htaccess file? Many thanks Chris
