SEO - Why variation in Google positioning? Are we penalized?
-
Our webiste is made of 2 different parts hosted in 2 different directory on the same domain:
1. The website itself, which can be seen as a catalog.
2. A blog on WP.
Sometimes we lose 50% of our traffic and 5 to 10 days later the traffic goes up again.
When looking at position in Google it appears that when losses of traffic happen, the Google positions of pages from the website become bad. The blog pages themselves keep their good position. Suddenly after few days we find our previous good postioning and we have a good traffic again.
Here at the questions we have:
1. Why do we have variation on our Google positioning? Which parameters can influence? Bounce rate? Speed?
3. Why only the website is penalized and never the WP blog whereas they are on same domain?
If someone has experienced it before or has a idea, your expertise is welcome...
Thanks.

Hi Celine, How are you checking your rankings?
-
Penguin attacks rankings of the pages which ranked for searches where the links that caused the penalty were pointed. So, you could have a home page that is penalized (b/c the offending links pointed to the home page and the offending links contain high traffic terms) and some, all or none of the individual pages in the blog. The wild (temporary) fluctuations in the SERP results might be Panda related.

Hi,
Thanks for your answer.
The domain is not new. (2 years). Not too much link building. Frech content every day.
For example: we have a page which was first on Google research with one keyword for at least 2 years. it brings us a lot of traffic.
Suddenly the page goes down to position 49 for few days and go back to the 1st position. It happen few time since Pinguin.
Right now, we are penalized again and it lasts since 10 days now.

Is it quite new domain? This is quite normal for newish domains, think of it as Google testing you out and seeing where you fit best in the rankings.
Do you do much link building, updating the site with fresh content. Continual SEO work on the site will help.

How to come back from reverse SEO penalization, and how to find out more about it?
Hello, We are currently researching the case of a client that suffered greatly after a campaign of reverse SEO. In a short spam of time (about 6 months) thousands of foul links were created pointing at this site, and as a consequence, it got an algorithmic penalization, and organic traffic dropped almost by half. Does anyone has any experience with this kind of situations we could learn from? Obviously, we are already proceeding to disavow such bad links, but we'd also love to get to know who is behind this. Is there any way of finding out who or what company originated these links. Many bad sites were specifically created to harm this client's reputation, but the registrant is privacy protected. We could at best find out where these sites are hosted. Is there any way we could progress further in finding out more about this? We are talking of a campaing carried out by someone who knows their way around SEO, and which took at least 6 months to a 1 years of constant spammy bombing. Any leads will be greatly appreciated. Regards 5yFVjCI

Reporting Webspam to Google
We are in ecommerce, and there are a few review sites that are dominating the rankings for our products. The sites are very good - very well written content (2000+ words) and visually appealing sites. The 2 main culprits are clearly black hat. One site's backlinks are pure spam, and the other is buying footer and sidebar links. Will ratting them to Google have any impact? If not, any suggestions on how to compete? Our competing pages are product descriptions, and creating a 2000 word product description seems inappropriate. Also, all of these products are brand new, and due to extensive media spends, the search volume is very high. Since they are beating us to the punch by getting good content posted first, they are proving difficult to displace.

Does putting a Google custom search box on make Google think my users are bouncing?
I added a Google custom search box to my pages, that's doing an advanced Google search. A lot of people are using it. So users are coming to my site from a Google search, and then often performing another Google search on my site. Should I be worried that Google may interpret the resultant user behavior as a bounce or pogo-stick? Or will the fact that the second search occurred on my site, using custom search, and with advanced parameters signal to Google that this is not a dissatisfied user returning to Google? Thanks

Google places keyword variations
Hi all, I have a site that is ranking #1 in Google Places for its main <city><keyword>search... but it does not rank for any of its basic keyword variations, which I find very confusing.</keyword></city> ie (just an example) Chicago Caterer (ranked #1 in google places)
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | x2264983x
Chicago Caterers (not ranked in google places)
Chicago Catering (not ranked in google places)
Chicago Catering Company (not ranked in google places)
Chicago Catering Companies (etc..) How can I secure a google places ranking for these simple keyword variations? Do I build links to the google plus page using that anchor text? Do I get citations that contain that keyword somewhere on the page? Do I optimize for these keyword variations on the actual website itself? (not the places listing). Obviously I don't stuff these keywords into the google places listing. Any help would be much appreciated!0 -
Frames and SEO
In the old days frames were a problem because they could end up being orphaned pages that get indexed and appear in the SERPS but had to navigation so they were useless. Are frames still a problem with Google and if so what are the suggested solutions?
