Suppliers linking to website - good or bad practice?
-
Hi, was just wondering about suppliers linking to website - copywriters, web developers, etc. - could these be seen as purchased links by Google. Is it best to specify that suppliers shouldn't link through?
-
Thanks Marie, Irving, EGOL, Andy - excellent advice as ever!

I would say it's a good thing. I think it's something that Google could not punish.
Think about how many clothing brands will have a "buy from here" links. It would be ridiculous for them to punish that, it's a clear and distint sign that you sell their product, or you represent their brand.
You might not get too much link juice from them if they have hundreds of suppliers under one page.

I do almost no linkbuilding. But I do ask suppliers to link to my site. If you sell brass widgets and have all of the brass widget makers linking to you that is kickass.
-
definitely good - and legitimate. As Marie stated mix up the anchor texts, also:
a) don't let them link to you sitewide
b) a link from their homepage would be the strongest.
c) make sure the suppliers site is clean and they're not selling links or an overly optimizes spammy or penalized site
d) links should be dofollow and SEO friendly

I would call these good links! Just be careful not to overdo anchor text - i.e. don't ask everyone to link to you using your main keyword.

Breadcrumbs or contextual links ?
Hi, I have breadcrumbs on my site but wondering if in addition to those I should also add contextual links linking to the same pages ? Or is it necessary to duplicate ? The reason i would be doing this is because contextual links/ editorial is what google likes and I am not sure breadcrumbs counts as much. Thanks,

Fading Text Links Look Like Spammy Hidden Links to a g-bot?
Ah, Hello Mozzers, it's been a while since I was here. Wanted to run something by you... I'm looking to incorporate some fading text using Javascript onto a site homepage using the method described here; http://blog.thomascsherman.com/2009/08/text-slideshow-or-any-content-with-fades/ so, my question is; does anyone think that Google might see this text as a possible dark hat SEO anchor text manipulation (similar to hidden links)? The text will contain various links (4 or 5) that will cycle through one another, fading in and out, but to a bot the text may appear initially invisible, like so; style="display: none;">Link Here All links will be internal. My gut instinct is that I'm just being stupid here, but I wanted to stay on the side of caution with this one! Thanks for your time 🙂 http://blog.thomascsherman.com/2009/08/text-slideshow-or-any-content-with-fades

Google Plus Links - Good for SEO?
I created a link on my Google Plus page under the recommended links with the relevant anchor text and url. It turns out that this is a do-follow link from a webpage with a Page Rank of 8. Is this just too good to be true or have Google genuinely missed something?
