Using syndicated content / videos
-
Hi all,
We are looking at using some syndicated video content on our main category pages. We are an pharmacy and offer prescription medicines (Yes we are NHS registered and no we don't sell generic products). I want to use the videos to increase the UX for the category pages and increase stickiness......however i am a little worried about how Google will see this.
We don't have the time or budget to create our own videos but the rest of the content around them is all ours. The videos are provided by the NHS so they are good quality content and should add value to the consumer.
Will big G stiff us for doing this?

As long as you have otherwise good content on your pages, I would think it highly unlikely to cause you any problems.
We do it all the time (we're an online newspaper)
and adding highly relevant videos increases the time that readers stay on a story.
For example, we added some 2-3 minute videos to popular stories.
Adding the videos more than doubled the on-page time.

How much do I have to differentiate syndicated content, exactly?
We have about 15-20 articles we'll repurpose on a partner domain (think: media outlet). To avoid duplicate content suspicion, how much exactly do we need to differentiate the content on the second domain? Yea, this is assuming we can't obtain a canonical for whatever reason. I've found some good advice here, but am looking for some quantification. Like: "A sentence/paragraph of introduction at the top of the piece, plus a link back to the original at the end of said introduction ought to do it." Any help is appreciated. Thanks! Tim

How to rank highly without much content?
Many pages on the web rank highly - even though they have no keyworded text. They might have listings, or just images. How do they achieve such high rankings? Is it just by getting lots of inbound links?

Supplement/Nutritional Facts
This may be a hard one for most to answer. I am wondering if supplement facts should be listed as html on a website or as an image? I see the benefit of both. Having a master image that can be saved into a lower res version and posted to the website eliminates issues with misspellings, etc. It also displays the information the same regardless of user and would be much easier to manage in terms of setup. Our formulations change from time to time, so it is important that our labels are consistent across all platforms. That being said, having the facts in html, would add potentially useful search content to the page and I imagine it would be helpful for disabled persons who use text readers. Any thoughts on this? I haven't discovered any recommendations or specs on this but I've seen it done both ways on many different sites.

Thin/spun content or No content at all?
So I'm working on a site right now that has been plagued with spun/rewritten content..we are talking in the thousands. Now would it be a smarter idea to just remove all the content or leave the content? This is an ecommerce site and I'm tasking a few people to rewrite fresh authentic content. So all of the spun/thin content will be removed eventually. The main question is to just delete it all right now or just replace as we go. I'd like to know what you guys think.

Content Duplication for Job Posting
Hello! I am responsible for SEO of a job portal of a recruitment agency. We get 30-40 jobs every month which we post on a) our job portal b) other job portals (like monster, career builder, Naukri , etc). How do avoid content duplication? We can only post the same job descriptions everywhere. We always post the job on our site first and then the other job portals**. How to ensure that Google knows our portal is the original job posters and not other job portals.** Thank you.

Can you use creative commons non-commercial images on a company blog?
Does anyone know if it is okay to use creative commons images on your company blog if they are under the Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 2.0 Generic license. Technically you are using it on a commercial site, but you are not directly making money from the image or selling it.

What Website Visual Structure Software Do You Use?
I need to continually create website trees for our group of websites. I was wondering what software you guys use to create site structure/trees? I've used Powerpoint, Giffy and other diagram software but ideally I want to find something that crawls my site and spits out a diagram and also gives me the option to add none existing trees so I can show new purposed sections. Cheers, Gary

Video Hosting Service or YouTube?
We are considering using a video hosting service like Vzaar or Wistia for our videos. What are some of the SEO advantages of using a video hosting service rather than YouTube?
