Does a directory running on a subdomain help or hurt SEO on the main site?
-
I have a blog, with a directory on the subdomain: directory.fbforbusinessmarketing.com. Is that smart for SEO, as it gives the overall domain more traffic? Or bad for SEO because of the different topics and all those outbound links? I'd appreciate opinions. Thanks.
-
Is the directory related to the theme of the site? So for instance, if you have a site that covers Facebook business marketing and you add a directory of consultants who offer Facebook marketing help, then you're sticking to the overall theme.
Likewise if the theme of the site is community journalism, separate subdomains that cover (or are directories) a variety of topics stick to the overall theme.
So assuming your idea is a benefit to your site users, a directory will help your SEO because inbound links will contribute to the overall root domain authority and outbound links will establish yourself as a trusted hub of information.

Why does a directory running on a subdomain give the overall domain more traffic?
-
I would separate it for the reasons you give, i like to keep to one theme.

Will SEO Blogs Divert Traffic from Main Web pages using same keywords?
Our company has drafted several SEO blogs using certain keywords. If we post these SEO blogs to our website and social media channels , and the blog keywords are also used on our main website pages, will the blogs divert or dilute traffic to our main web pages? Thank you for your expertise and insights in advance.

What is the best tactic to fix thousands of product descriptions on an eCommerce site?
I've asked this to dozens of people already, but I still haven't found a satisfactory answer... perhaps someone here can help me: I keep hearing how important it is to update product descriptions to avoid duplicate content, decrease thin content and improve conversion rates - but for any new eCommerce sites like ours, with thousands of listings going up at once, this is nearly impossible to control. Outsourcing is clearly a bad idea from an SEO standpoint as well as a UX standpoint... But are there any other options? Should I let go of my other responsibilities and focuses as an in-house SEO manager and virtually stop, drop and roll out unique product descriptions? That would be a project that would take me at least a year to complete. Do I just give up? Do two descriptions a day and hope for the best? What do you guys think? What have you recommended for others? I can't imagine our company is alone in this dilemma. Thanks in advance! Hanna

Clear examples of SEO success with content marketing needed.
I know SEOmoz is always going on about content marketing as the best SEO tactic, but I'm struggling to achieve search engine success with it for my site. Has anybody very successfully pursued a content marketing strategy for their site in a competitive niche? Can you give us the examples? (including the keywords you succeeded for). Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

Blog SEO Strategy
The current SEO strategy for my company blog is to include a percentage of short tail keywords in each blog post, and not to link to the main site because they are concerned with diluting the blog. I would like to change the strategy and instead use the blog to promote long tail keywords by having each entry focus on around a different long tail keyword. I would also like to use the short-tail keywords for internal linking to strengthen our important pages with keyword rich anchor text (no more than 1 link per 100 words). I would love the advice of the SEOMoz community about which strategy is more effective (or if there is something else entirely we should be doing). Thanks!
