KissMetrics Experience / Feedback
-
Hi Mozzers.
Can anyone share their experiences using KissMetrics: pros, cons, how it compares to Google Analytics etc?
Thanks, I appreciate any input.
-
Ah, my bad. That's probably why they changed their name.

Highland,
You are talking about KissInsights, which is different from Kissmetrics.
Kissmetrics is an advanced tool which gives you some better control than Google Analytics.
You can find most of the information about their freatures on their official website, but the key difference is the level of customized reports you can generate with Kissmetrics is better.
Important: The usability of Kissmetrics varies from business to business. The best way to find out if you need kissmetrics is:
-
Use google analytics for a few days (if you're not using it correctly) in your business. Try out their goals, conversions, and customized dashboards.
-
If you feel you need higher control over your data that Google Analytics isn't correctly providing, and kissmetrics provides that data, then you can think about migrating.
-
Before signing up, make sure the data you need from Kissmetrics outweighs the cost associated with it.
The standard reporting, goals, social analytics etc is same in Google analytics and kissmetrics (although kissmetrics provides better social signals data)

First off, it's Qualaroo now. Not sure what that has to do with metrics but it's not my brand.
Second, it doesn't replace GA, it complements it. The idea is that a user can submit instant feedback. We write our own e-commerce platform and use it in the checkout process to get feedback. Sometimes the feedback isn't useful but once in a while your users can tell you about problems before you find them. It's very useful.

Is it possible to reverse a G algo update (Penguin/Panda)?
...if yes, how? Can you share resources / blogs / etc... I want to reverse my site's rankings. Here's the gist of it: I recently purchased a website that has 600+ pieces of aged content on it. Domain was ranking great about 10 years ago (1M uniques a year) It apparently got hit by a G algo update in 2012/2013 (Penguin and Panda?), because the rankings have tanked (10 hits a day) In the past two years, the previosu owner published about 100+ off-topic blog posts and it appears been using the site as a PBN. The UX sucks and there's a ton of 404s. (NOTE: I am in the process of removing that content and have cleaned up the 404s). Domain stats: 20+ years old (1998) and DA 32, linking domains 850+, inbound links of 16k+ What I've done: disavow (550 domains), fix all the 404s What I'm doing / about to do: remove spammy content write new/fresh on-topic content update the site UX start a backlink building campaign My questions: is it common to bounce back from a G algo update? is it hard / am I over my head / am I a sucker trying to get the site back alive? are there articles about bouncing back that you can share so I can learn more about this process? Or agencies / consultants, etc that you recommend? what other recommendations / suggestions do you have that would help reverse this 8-year-old penalty?

Uptick in not tracked conversions / anyone have a list of things that google analytics will not track
There seems to have been an uptick in users on our site not being tracked in Google Analytics cause I see a lot more un-tracked revenue in the last 6 months then I used to. I know analytics is still working as it has been tracking a normal amount of visits but I assumed there might be a reason less would be actually showing up in analytics (mabye a change is what is being reported as organic). I know a lot of stuff goes into "not provided" such as logged in search and stuff like that but is there a list of all of the ones that go into not provided and all that just do not get tracked (javascript not enabled, iOS?). If it could be something else as well let me know. Thanks for the help!

Google Analytics/ Contact 7 Plugin
I have a site that uses the contact 7 plugin for its contact form sitewide in a sidebar and on a contact us page. I've set up a goal in analytics and tracked using the "on_sent_ok" hook but the number of goals GA is creating is far outweighing the number of times the form is actually completed. I figured my initial mistake was to use the contact-us page as the page tracker variable for the goal but wondered if it was counting all form completions AND anyone who went to the contact page. So I amended it to a contact-us/thank-you page that no site visitor could navigate to, and since I have no goals completed, even though we're getting enquiries through the form. Am I being dumb here and missing something quite simple?

Can you get local search numbers/traffic out of Google Analytics?
With Google's new local search I am more curious as to market penetration on keywords that are now localized to my different US cities. I understand that you can separate out Google traffic based on regional Google domains, but I am curious if there is an effective way to separate out searches and keywords based on a my local US Metros? If google cannot do this, any recommendations on products that can? Thanks.

For an optimized site, any available stats / guesstimates on what is avg % of traffic to homepage vs. second-level pages?
I'm interested in passing this info on to a client who experienced a period of time when an incorrect GA code was installed on their homepage. They were able to get Google stats on second level pages only. This is a site that gets 80 + % of visits from organic search engine referrals. They do minimal advertising. Thanks in advance.
