301 redirects from old site to new
-
hey all, we just did a site redesign and have less pages on the new site than the old. is it bad to redirect multiple pages from the old site to the same page on the new?
for example redirect
...com/apps
...com/android
...com/mobile
and point them all to....com/custom-apps
thanks!

How do I find why I have a 302 redirect?
I have a 10 year old website and I have just recently changed to a https: version and my host ionos setup a 301 redirect. I have noticed on my Moz reports that as well as a 301 redirect there is also a 302. How do I find why I have a 302 redirect? I have looked in my htaccess file and it says:- RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} 80

RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R,L] I'm assuming this is the 301 redirect, where will I find the 302 redirect. Please note that I am using Wordpress that was not setup through ionos. Does anyone know where a 302 redirect could also be installed or how I find why its there or where its coming from? Thanks Andrew0 -
Redirects Not Working / Issue with Duplicate Page Titles
Hi all We are being penalised on Webmaster Tools and Crawl Diagnostics for duplicate page titles and I'm not sure how to fix it.We recently switched from HTTP to HTTPS, but when we first switched over, we accidentally set a permanent redirect from HTTPS to HTTP for a week or so(!).We now have a permanent redirect going the other way, HTTP to HTTPS, and we also have canonical tags in place to redirect to HTTPS.Unfortunately, it seems that because of this short time with the permanent redirect the wrong way round, Google is confused as sees our http and https sites as duplicate content. Is there any way to get Google to recognise this new (correct) permanent redirect and completely forget the old (incorrect) one?Any ideas welcome!

What is the longest you would go back to ressurrect links that should have been 301's?
I have never thought of anything beyond a site that was possibly developed a month or two ago, but an interesting possible client has come along and begs a question. They had their site "redesigned" in April 2014 and it appears whomever did the work did not realize what a 301 was for. Using ahrefs or MajesticSEO, they have gone from roughly 15,000 referring pages to 500 and the time line perfectly intersects the redesign. Sooooo, just wondering if any of you geniuses has ever gone back that far to try and pull off a 301.... I am actually just thinking of a link building / content marketing plan but thought it was an interesting question. Thanks for the help, Robert

W3C My site has 157 Errors, 146 warning(s) Is it an issue?
Is having this number of W3C errors & warnings an issue and will be impacting my site's performance? When the site was built 6 months ago my developers told me that it "was nothing to worry about", but I have read that any errors aren't good, let alone the huge number my site has? Your advice please Thanks Ash

Can anyone recommend a tool that will identify unused and duplicate CSS across an entire site?
Hi all, So far I have found this one: http://unused-css.com/ It looks like it identifies unused, but perhaps not duplicates? It also has a 5,000 page limit and our site is 8,000+ pages....so we really need something that can handle a site larger than their limit. I do have Screaming Frog. Is there a way to use Screaming Frog to locate unused and duplicate CSS? Any recommendations and/or tips would be great. I am also aware of the Firefix extensions, but to my knowledge they will only do one page at a time? Thanks!

Mobile sites! Any advice or suggestions for building one?
Hello Mozland, I'm looking to have a mobile site built. We have a fair amount of traffic coming from smart phones, tablets etc and want to capture this traffic better. Do you have any advice on how to have it built properly, if/how it can be optimised, what good features to include, or anything else you think might be of help? Many thanks Martin

Recommendation for a company to make a site more mobile friendly?
Hiya, We have a client who uses us for SEO, and a separate company for web development. They have a fairly large site on a bespoke CMS. They're happy with the site, but the user experience on mobile devices is not right. Can anybody recommend a company specializing in that area? Preferably a UK company but not essential. Thanks 🙂
