I need help finding a link building professional
-
I understand that some may respond to this question advising that we should concentrate on building good quality content, and eventually the links will come. And I do agree.
The problem is that while we are implementing a content strategy and we're absolutely focused on creating unique, quality content for our audience, we're also a brand new business with a current grand total of (wait for it...) - 4 back-links!
So while we're devoting our efforts to create the most engaging content we can, we need to find someone that can help us build our back-link profile and help to promote our brand and content in the most legitimate way possible.
Obviously typing "SEO" into Google is not necessarily the most effective way to find the right person for the job and I'm a bit apprehensive about posting ads on eLance, oDesk, etc
Does anyone have any idea how we can find someone smart and highly experienced that understands the importance of doing this right? We are Australian based but they don't have to be local.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Stu
The tips for finding a link builder here on SEOmoz from Moosa are good and if you have a budget of several thousand $ a month you will be able to get some good people to help with your SEO and content focus, so if the budget is available that is a good way to go.
If however the budget is not available you can do a lot yourself, you are already doing the hardest bit, creating interesting and useful content for your market, now all you need to do is let the audience know it is on your site.
You can do this by finding other websites that look after the same market but do not compete with you, such as a car insurance company if you sell cars, then offer to write some content for their audience (guest posting).
You should also use Twitter to follow people who are influential in your market and find a way to get on their radar (help them in some way or talk about things they care about etc.) then when you have a relationship with these people you can ask them to comment on your content, they share it with the people who follow them and then you have the beginnings of a group of people who think your content is worth talking about.
By asking industry influences to help with or talk about your content it will get shared and these shares are all potential links to your site.
I hope this helps
Sean

I really have to endorse moosahemani's response here. I will also add the biggest risk of hiring somebody to do your link building is they will do it un-ethically which will hurt not help your business. In the end you will have paid somebody to screw you over.

Why not approach one of these companies/individuals SEOMOZ recommends...

I am not really in a mood to present myself at the front of you and raise my hand but i can give you an idea of how you can find the right kind of SEO for your business. There are tons of snake oil sellers who can eat your money and give you nothing but will waste your time and put your website at risk.
Here are few of the things that should keep in mind when searching for the right kind of SEO for your business.
- He will discuss what he will do!
This means that he will be able to give you the overview of what he can do for your business and what you should expect on month to month basis.
- He will be Open to community
The right kind of SEOs are usually open to community and help others with their knowledge and talent. If you want to search for the right kind of SEO on SEOmoz platform i would recommend checking the list of top 50 active members and approach them as they are the most active people in the SEOmoz community.
- Usually there share their tactics
Not all but mostly good SEOs tend to write on different platforms (SEO blogs) about the expertise that they have in order to give the right image of SEO in the community. You can always find this by typing in their name or may be the company name they are working for.
- Twitter Addict
This is not must but true to almost 85% of good SEOs. They tend to share their perspective about SEO to other likeminded people in order to build relationship. Most SEOs discuss things, happenings and ideas on open platforms like twitter, so if you want a good SEO see how active they are on twitter and what is their fellow circle.
- SEOmoz list of Recommended Companies
If budget is not at all a problem for you, then you should consider checking out the list of SEO companies that SEOmoz recommend as they are all the high class people in the SEO community.

Hi Stu,
I'm going to say this at the risk of being struck down with slings and arrows by my highly-esteemed friends in the SEOMoz Q & A forum. Research and pursue high-quality directory links. Create a budget, research the directory's history, PageRank, check them in OSE, and vet them completely. You will be amazed at what's left. There are a lot of good directories out there and they still matter (ouch! I think an arrow just hit me).
I had a brand new niche site last January. In one year we've moved from PageRank 1 to PageRank 3 and we are little bitty teensy weensy. We are on track to quadruple organic traffic and sales in 2013. We have some good "earned" links, but nearly ALL of our first links were from high-quality directories.
Just be smart, research them, and never pay for more than one year. Next year, that directory could be gone. If you aren't in Yahoo.dir, pay the money and get listed (if you can). Also get into Business.com and JoeAnt.com...there are many many more good ones.
I'd love to raise my hand and charge you a consulting fee to do it for you, but I think you can do this yourself and save a lot of money and get decent results.
Good luck! [and I'm putting on my armor now to deal with the comments that come after this one, lol]

Should I build internal links to my homepage?
Ive done a lot of internal linking before but its always been for other inner pages but now I need to do it for a websites homepage but this got me thinking if its even worth doing and should I be doing it at all? For the first question I was thinking that surely the homepage has more authority than any of my inner pages so how would internal links from inner pages help and for the second question Ive read a few posts like this Kissmetrics one here where it says you shouldnt do it. There are two types of links you should avoid using in your content: Homepage. Most sites have too many links to the homepage as it is. You would rather strengthen internal pages to boost the overall SEO of your site, rather than simply point more links at the homepage. https://blog.kissmetrics.com/commandments-of-internal-linking/ thoughts?

Is RU white hat link building possible?
According to my RU content/SEO person all the major websites/blogs in RU asked for payment to post an article... and there is no advice in RU/Yandex for implementing white hat methods. I work for a gaming company, so trying white hat is difficult in any country.... but still seems worth trying. Does anyone have experience or advice about RU link building?

Link building for a non-linkable site?
Hello, I am trying to zone in on a link building strategy for a non-linkable site. What I mean by non-linkable is I have a construction site. It's a family owned and operated small business. Our clients are farmers and older people usually. We go do a job, do it right the first time, and leave. Basically even if a couple of people who link to me for some weird reason, this is no way in the realm of 6,000 that my main competition has. I have tried to get as many quality citation resources as possible by using get listed, and white spark. My domain authority is only 16 though, so I must be able to increase this somehow. I have listed with Google +, Bing, Yahoo and every other major citation I could find. So now with trying too increase links with other ideas. I read somewhere to donate to charitable organizations, but if they link back to me as a donor, in an unrelated field, isn't that spammy like? So a construction site donating to a disease website, and then getting a backlink in return, does that look weird. It just seems like there are so many rules that I do not want to mess something up. I do not want get spammy links, but not sure if citations count as links so I am doing a win-win thing? Thanks for any tips Chris

How can I find and fix my broken links
There are a number(110) links that SEOmoz has found to have 404 errors. I have been able to find and fix many of them but there are links that are coming from our home page that do not seem to exist. I cannot even find the links in our system in wordpress. Is there something obvious that I am missing? Is there a way to locate where the links are originating from?

Link Building by Guest Posting.... But How many posts?
Hello I am a small Computer/Tech Blogger (part time) from India and following are my Domain stats: PR: 4 Alexa Rank: 65K *** Open Site Explorer Page Authority: 46/100** *** Open Site Explorer Domain Authority: 35/100** *** Open Site Explorer Linking Root Domain: 98** *** Open Site Explorer Total Links: 1196** *** mR: 4.83** *** mT: 5.81** Domain Age: 3 Years and 4 Months Blog Posts I made: around 580 I never spent ANY time in Link Building, only wrote content for my blog. I only attached my Blog URL in some BIG forums as a signature (never meant for link building, but later found that the signature section of some forums are DOFOLLOW) and very few sites linked/links to me/my articles. Reasons why I am asking question here: Majority of my blog posts ranks very well (top 10) on Google.co.in, but on Google.com, most of them are present from Page 2 - Page 10 - I want to rank my posts well on Google.com, Google.co.uk etc. SERP of Big sites remains static, but my position shuffles a lot. Sometimes any particular blog post of mine is on first page (on a particular Google Domain) and after some days/months, it shifts to 2nd or 3rd page! This happens a lot! As soon as Google Updates pagerank, many recent articles of mine will get atleast PageRank 2 or 3, but when pagerank in updated again, the pagerank of these very same articles drops! Very few articles of mine have static pagerank I am not a master in Computers/Tech and am not the first one on the internet to discover and write something UNIQUE/NEW, but I try to write detailed and good quality tutorials. If main keywords of my posts matches with the keywords of BIG domains, I never rank on first page, no matter I have written more detailed content compared to the content of these BIG sites! Google sends me traffic to majority of my blog posts by means of random keywords! I have decided to do Guest Posting on some blogs of similar niche and with Open Site Explorer Domain Authority ranging from 60 to 80. I will try my level best to write good content for them and they also allows Author Bio with a backlink to my Blog Homepage (in my case, the anchor text for this link will be my Blog Name) I want to ask following questions: Is one guest post with a backlink to my Homepage is enough? or I have to write more content for same domain? I have heard that, if you link to a website/blog which is linking to you, Google don't pass any juice to either of them because of reciprocal linking! - Is this true? The websites on which I am planning to do guest posts are very well established and trusted websites. Some of them have Open Site Explorer Domain Authority of 80+. Also, I never linked to them nor I am planning to do so! I request SEO Gurus here to please help me and I apologize in advance if I am wrong at any point. MY SEO concepts are not much clear and I am a newbie 🙂 Thanks and Regards

What are your favorite link building tools?
I know there are a bunch out there, but I'd love to hear your guys thoughts. The more tools you post, and the more unknown they are (i.e. everyone knows OSE, Raven Tools, Buzzstream, Ontolo, etc.), the more I'd love the answer. Also, it doesn't have to be a comprehensive tool. Even if it's a bookmarklet, or something that solves one specific tedious task, I'd love to hear about it! 🙂

Which link building method is most effective?
I have been looking at different seo companies for link building. I found a ranked list on Topseos.com. Many of them offer the same services as offshore SEOs, namely: Article marketing blog comments forum comments/profiles bookmarking PR directories Link acquisition by contacting relevants sites and negotiating a fee for a link I know that custom link acquisition is the most effective, but it gets very expensive. And, you don't know what each link is going to cost you. Here are my questions: Of the other methods (other thank custom link acquisition), how would you rank their effectiveness? The other methods seem kinda gimmicky, is it worth the time/money? Have you seen sites rank well for competitve keywords using articles/bookmarking/blog comments/directories etc? How do you know i a company is going to them manually as they claim? as opposed to using some automated software. Thanks
