Conflicting Canonical Tag in On-Page Report
-
I'm going through my site with the "One-Page report card for some PPC landing pages.
If I have this canonical tag on my page :
I get a Fail in the "Critical Factors Section here:
Appropriate Use of Rel Canonical
but a Pass in the Optional Factors here:
Canonical URL Tag Usage
If I take the canonical link out, the opposite happens,
what am I missing? Is the format wrong?
Thanks
Michael

If you are getting a Fail in Critical factors that means the canonical tag is pointing to a different URL then the one you are trying to grade/optimize.
Are you looking at the report card of the page http://www.hometheatercooling.com/Audio-Fan.html?
To be more clear, the Pass in optional Factors means that yes, you use a canonical tag, the Fail in Critical factors means your canonical tag doesn't correspond to your page url.

Deleted pages still registering as 404 pages.
I have a an all html site that I can only work on through the ftp. The previous marketing company ran a script that built thousands of location landing pages, but all they did was change the tags and headers and the keywords in the pages, other than that they are all duplicate pages. I removed them, but Google is reading them as 404 pages. How do I tell Google those pages don't exist? or do I just need to let the bots crawl it a few times and it will see that eventually?

Which Meta Tags would you recommend having on the pages?
Hello, There are so many different meta tags which you can implement to the header of your website and I'm wanting to get people's opinions on which you feel are worth putting in and which are completely pointless? For example: Author Copyright Language Content-Type Content-Language Distribution Abstract Keywords Description Classification Canonical Expires Revisit-after Rating I look forward to hearing your comments and suggestions. Page Rank
I had just made a 301 re-direct on one of our product pages which had a PR of 4, now that Google has indexed the new page, it's now got a PR of 0, i'm struggling to understand why this could be, i know that you may see a drop of 1, which has happened in the past, but this drop just does not make sense. Any ideas of why this could be? Kind Regards

Should I use a Page Name variable after the ? for a dynamic web page
I'm converting for static to dynamic web pages. It appears that the page name is used for page ranking in the search engines. Will adding a Page Name variable help to increase our SEO. For example aspecialgift.com/subcat.php?PageName=GiftPage&ProductID=ABCDE. Does the page name variable make a difference?
