Geographical location influencing Auto Complete / Search Suggest
-
I was reading this q and a and found some video that Rand had made about this and how using influence to change the auto completes in Google.
Is there any chance Google is also dividing the lists from a Geographical location. So users on the East Coast might see something different than the West Coast. I also wonder if Google takes local search over regional. That could also make the auto completes different based on location.
Just curious...

Cesar/Stephan, personally I have not seen much difference or I should clearly say any difference between a Dallas Restaurant site hosted in Dallas vs a Dallas Restaurant site hosted in New York. I just don't see any evidence today, but from a country perspective, it definitely plays a role. So if you were targeting Toronto Restaurants, the site hosted in Toronto/Canada would be better then hosted in Dallas/NY/USA. It would then also mean looking at a .ca domain vs a .com
However, this could change tomorrow and it would not be a big surprise if local hosting influences local rankings. So if you have the choice to host it locally, where your target customer is, do it. Expect no gains because of it today, but there's nothing to loose, right ?
As for Auto Suggest, yes, location plays a role. Just search for weather. You'd see your city's weather information. If you fly to another city and then refresh that weather results page, the results will change to reflect that city.
I hope this helps.

Good question. Maybe I could add a question to this thread.
Does local server of web site also play a part? I.e. hosting in Dallas when you're site and clients are in New York?

Google Search Console Not Indexing Pages
Hi there! I have a problem that I was hoping someone could help me with. On google search console, my website does not seem to be indexed well. In fact, even after rectifying problems that Moz's on-demand crawl has pointed out, it still does not become "valid". There are some of the excluded pages that Google has pointed out. I have rectified some of the issues but it doesn't seem to be helping. However, when I submitted the sitemap, it says that the URLs were discoverable, hence I am not sure why they can be discovered but are not deemed "valid". I would sincerely appreciate any suggestions or insights as to how can I go about to solve this issue. Thanks! Screenshot+%28341%29.png Screenshot+%28342%29.png Screenshot+%28343%29.png

Google not crawling click to expand content - suggestions?
It seems like Google confirmed this week in a G+ hangout that content in click to expand content e.g. 'read more' dropdown and tabbed content scenarios will be discounted. The suggestion was if you have content it needs to be visible on page load. Here's more on it https://www.seroundtable.com/google-index-click-to-expand-19449.html and the actual hangout, circa 11 mins in https://plus.google.com/events/cjcubhctfdmckph433d00cro9as. From a UX and usability point of view having a lot of content that was otherwise tabbed or in click to expand divs can be terrible, especially on mobile. Does anyone have workable solutions or can think of examples of really great landing pages (i'm mostly thinking ecommerce) that also has a lot of visible content? Thanks Andy

Does Site Size Influence Rank?
The Scenario:
Algorithm Updates | | kchandler
Currently one of my clients has 7-8 products that they sell on their website. For each product they have two different pages one with the product info and one with a video demo. So the pages began to split their authority as they began receiving new links. Since only one of the two pages for each product rank i suggested that we combine the two and redirect the video page to the product page to increases it's authority and rank. The Clients Response:
After explaining my reasoning and next steps the client mentioned that he thought a site's size was a ranking factor. I had never heard of this before so i told them i would do some research to prove my point, after a little digging around i am now even more confused. http://www.seroundtable.com/google-size-ranking-17044.html http://www.webmasterworld.com/google/4591155.htm The Question:
Does a websites size/amount of content indexed in Google actually effect your sites ability to rank? I look forward to everyones feedback, thanks Kyle1 -
Wrong Google pin locations
Did something happen recently that would affect pin locations on Google Maps? I've been updating Google Places pages, but not touching the address or pins - but I received a phone call from one of my locations that their pin location changed in the past month and now it is wrong. Meanwhile, another department recently had MomentFeed update the pins for accuracy. Thoughts?

.org appearing in browser search when .com is the primary domain
In most browsers, our visitors search for our domain and when they start typing the URL the drop down auto choices list .org as the first choice for our website. We do own the .org but it points to the .com and the .com is our primary domain. Why does .org seem to dominate Google search in this case? And since we have the .org forwarded to the .com, do we need to be concerned?

Meta description and its influence on the SERPS
Hi Hi, on the On-Page Ranking Card I read: "The meta description, while it does not influence rankings in the results, can still be valuable to employ to improve the click-through-rate of searchers from the results page and to provide context to those visitors about the page's topic/focus." And Google confirms that it doesn't influence the results. On the infografic on this page (text is in german), the say, it has a little relevance for the serps and that is what I experience, too. http://t3n.de/news/diese-faktoren-beeinflussen-365580/ What is you experience with meta description and serps? Other than a few keywords, my rankings are consistently lower in MSN/Bing/Yahoo than in Google. Any ideas or suggestions as to why?
