Blog on domain or sub-domain
-
Hi,
I am looking to incorporate a blog that currently sits on another domain into my site. I am not sure whether to do this as part of my domain or as a sub-domain e.g.
I can see the benefits from an SEO perspective for both but just wanted some advice on the best way to go.

Thanks Paul. I do agree with a lot of what you have said, however, interestingly enough we created a blog on a separate domain (not even sub-domain, but completely separate) for various reasons late last year - and it already has a PR of 2 (which surprised me).
But we are going to go with the sub-directory

Putting a blog on a subdomain gives you all the disadvantages of it being a separate site, and none of the advantages.
It will still have to work to earn it's rankings on it's own, separate from the prime site, but because the search engines can clearly see it's directly owned by and related to the main site, it's heavily discounted as far as passing ranking influence. In general it also no longer helps as a way to try to earn extra spots in the SERPS for the same keywords.
Plus, as a standalone site, it's going to take quite a while for its pages to earn any authority of their own, so links will have very little influence to pass in the first place.

Thanks Nakul and Daniel.
This was my line of thinking, however I do know that some large blogs use it on a subdomain and although you will not get the SEO value from incoming links to the blog, it is viewed as a separate site so therefore links from the blog to the actual domain would be viewed as external rather than internal links (am I correct in saying this)?
But I think I will go with the subdirectory.

I agree with Dan. I would go with mydomain.com.au/blog
I answered a similar question earlier today.

I hope this helps.

Hey,
I would most definitely run the blog in the folder (mydomain.com.au/blog) over the sub-domain...
Sub-domains are considered a separate site, and therefore offer little SEO benefit between sub-domain variations. That said, it is great for branding and breaking up very distinct elements of a business.
Hope this helps.

Can anyone recommend a good reliable blogging platform for a small to medium sized manufacturing and services company?
I've been asked by my manager to investigate the best blogging platform for our company website. On a recent CIM course it ways suggested that Wordpress is not necessarily reliable. Could anyone advise? The blog is required to provide a space for current industry news, casestudies etc. It is also envisaged that the blog will allow comments. I've only got good things to say about Wordpress, but have only used the platform for my own small SEO company.

Exchanging Guest Blog Opportunities - SEO Implications?
Haven't found a clear, recent answer on this. What are the SEO implications of exchanging guest blogging opportunities (in other words, we write an article for a partner blog with a backlink, and they write an article on on our blog with a backlink)? The partner site has a 57 domain authority and we have a 24 domain authority.

Blog Benefits
I read a very interesting answer by Andy Solo to a previous question in which he replied: "Use your blog to create some Tips & How-To's, optimize those blog entries for the long tail keywords and soon enough your blog will be the gateway into your website. Learn how to target longl-tail keyword searches and how to analyze keyword competition to find the right niche blog posts to create". With my own company site, www.nile-cruises-4u.co.uk which has a long-standing blog attached, www.nile-cruises-4u.co.uk/blog I always felt that the blog content greatly aided our top positions in Google.co.uk. However, over the last 12 months we have slipped right down page one and I wondered if the blog is still helping our site or if the emphasis/value has switched and Google is looking at a lot of other factors where we score badly? How long before I can see those links show up in SEO Moz for my website? What elements is SEO Moz looking for before they add the wordpress site to my linking domains report? Regards, Jeff

Guest Blogging Question!
Hi, The anchor text link connected with an article used for guest blogging, say the anchor text has 3 words and the link is in the byline, do these 3 words need to be used within the article content? For example if the article is 500 words long and the anchor text from the link is not used at all in the article content will this have a massive negative effect against using the anchor text in the article a few times? Cheers

Should I publish several blog posts at once or stagger?
I have several blog posts that I want to publish (40 or so). For freshness is it better to stagger their publication over several months or is it fine to publish them all at the same time. The comments are closed.

Corporate blog
We are starting a corporate blog and were discussing the best place to put it in terms of the URL. Would http://blog.companyabc.com be OK, or is another structure better? Like http://www.companyabc.com/blogtitle/?
