How can I resolve weird duplicates showing up because of my mobile website?
-
We launched a mobile site a month ago following the parallel mobile structure with a URL: m.example.com
The week later my moz crawl detected thousands of dups which I am trying to resolve right now by implementing canonical tags on the mobile version and rel=alternate onto the desktop version.
So what is weird is that I found urls that were detected as duplicates on top of the regular duplicate:
www.example.com/name?device=desktop
m.example.com/name?device=mobile
These 2 urls double the number of duplicates. Can you tell me what are these? is this normal? and how can I fix those?
Thank you mozzers!

There are 2 aspects to removing these pages (I am presuming these URLs are already indexed in Google).
First, you need to get these removed, so that they do not exist. Either a 404 or a Canonical to itself.
If it's a canonical, as Google recrawls these pages, they will drop the duplicates from their Index. If they are 404, then also they will drop or you can request remove via Google Webmaster Console.
I can's say specifically without looking at the actual example.
I hope this helps.

Hey Nakul
"It might also be easier to remove these extra URLs, but then you have device=desktop on your desktop site and device =mobile on your mobile site."
Are you saying that if I try to remove these URLs I won't be able to do so? Can you clarify?
Thanks

Just add canonical tags on your website so that search engines always only crawl one version of the URL. Typically, these duplicate URLs are created by the CMS. It might also be easier to remove these extra URLs, but then you have device=desktop on your desktop site and device =mobile on your mobile site. That makes me think it might be best to add a canonical tag on both sets of pages as well as having a rel=alternate.
I hope this helps.

Can I use duplicate content in different US cities without hurting SEO?
So, I have major concerns with this plan. My company has hundreds of facilities located all over the country. Each facility has it's own website. We have a third party company working to build a content strategy for us. What they came up with is to create a bank of content specific to each service line. If/when any facility offers that service, they then upload the content for that service line to that facility website. So in theory, you might have 10-12 websites all in different cities, with the same content for a service. They claim "Google is smart, it knows its content all from the same company, and because it's in different local markets, it will still rank." My contention is that duplicate content is duplicate content, and unless it is "localize" it, Google is going to prioritize one page of it and the rest will get very little exposure in the rankings no matter where you are. I could be wrong, but I want to be sure we aren't shooting ourselves in the foot with this strategy, because it is a major major undertaking and too important to go off in the wrong direction. SEO Experts, your help is genuinely appreciated!

Google cache from my website give another website
Hello, Some time ago, I already asked a question here because my homepage disappeared from Google for our main keyword. One of the problems that we showing up was the Google cache. If you look to the cache of the website www.conseilfleursdebach.fr, you see that it show the content of www.lesfleursdebach.be. It's both our website, but one is focus on France and the other one on Belgium. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache%3Awww.conseilfleursdebach.fr&oq=cach&aqs=chrome.0.69i59j69i57j0j69i60j0l2.1374j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Before, there were flags on the page to go to the other country, but in the meantime I removed all links from the .fr to the .be and opposite. This is ongoing since January. Who has an idea of what can cause this and most of all, what do do? Kind regards, Tine

Error reports showing pages that don't exist on website
I have a website that is showing lots of errors (pages that cannot be found) in google webmaster tools. I went through the errors and re-directed the pages I could. There are a bunch of remaining pages that are not really pages this is why they are showing errors. What's strange is some of the URL's are showing feeds which these were never created. I went into Google webmaster tools and looked at the remove URL tool. I am using this but I am confused if I need to be selecting "remove page from search results and cache" option or should I be selecting this other option "remove directory" I am confused on the directory. I don't want to accidentally delete core pages of the site from the search engines. Can anybody shed some light on this or recommend which I should be selecting? Thank you Wendy

Can I get posts from a blog host and put them on a private website ?
Hello everybody ! My client has a blog for 2 years with many posts on overblog, a French blog host like Blogger. Now we are currently building a new website with a new blog within the site. Those posts are valuable content that bring some traffic to the old blog. My idea was to re-publish those posts on the new blog to start with some good content. Unfortunately, the blog host don't let me use 301 redirects or re=canonical tags to tell search engines that the post is now in the new website and avoid duplicate content. What is the best SEO solution in this case ? Can we delete the posts on the old blog and publish them in the new one ? Thanks for your help! Bruno
