A popular page has gone out of the top fifty what have i done wrong
-
Hi, we have a very popular page http://www.in2town.co.uk/Gastric-Band-Hypnotherapy and it has always done well with our readers as well as ranking with google. we were on the first page for a long time and then in january we dropped to the top of the second page in google and now we are not in the top fifty.
Have i done something wrong with this page, is it under optimized. Basically i have not really thought about optimizing the page, i have always just had articles on their and having the intro with the links, i am not sure if i should just have the links on there without the intro.
The keyword we have is gastric band hypnotherapy and i would have thought with all the content we have on the subject the page would still do well. It seems something is really wrong, not sure if i have to many articles on the page or not.
any advice would be great.

hi, can you explainabout the DM, not sure what that is and if you can explain about doing a rel no follow, what would the reason be on this and would this be for the whole page.
The problem i do have is, the page is about gastric band hypnotherapy and there are loads of articles with the word gastric band hypnotherapy in them, so this is a major problem when it comes with too many of the same words on the page.
one thing that does worry me and i am not sure if it is my computer or if everyone is seeing this, but before xmas when i typed in gastric band hypnotherapy, or in2town gastric band hypnotherapy, then my site main page for this subject would come up as gastric band hypnotherapy, but now, for some reason the title comes up as gastric band hypnotherapy in2town lifestyle magazine, and also the url is showing www.in2town.co.uk and then next to it, health.
can anyone confirm if they are seeing this as well and if so why has it happened.

The page is definitely over-optimized - especially with external links - so you could be right. Another option is the page layout update. There are a lot of ads on the individual stories.
The only real way to tell would be to see the analytics, and figure out the date of the drops in rankings.

at a quick glance it looks like a possibly been hit by a penguin update. The word gastric band is in every paragraph which could seem spammy. Possibly remove DM few or do rel no follow.
i have only briefly looked.

What is the best meta description for Category Pages, Tag Pages and Main Article?
Hi, I want to index all my categories and tags. But I fear about duplicating the meta description. for example: I have a tag name "Learn Stock Market", a category name "Learning", and a main article "What is Stock Market". What is your suggestion for meta description of these three pages that looks great for seo google?

Dupelicate content home page and custom page question
I am working on a website that got hit by the penguin update. Didn't get hit terribly bad, but dropped from number one to number 9. As I'm going through the pages, the theme and content is a mess. To give an example, say the site is about custom colored marbles. The main page content covers custom colored marbles, custom promotional marbles, custom glass marbles, etc. Custom colored marbles is mentioned and covered on all pages, which I am going back and trying to make each page theme specific. There is also a custom page, so I am at a cross roads on how best to employ the focus of the custom page and the home page. I am thinking the home page should emphasize colored marbles, and the custom page should emphasize custom colored marbles. My fear is that making such a drastic change will bounce the site completely off front page and that it will take time for the custom page to come up in rankings. AS it stands now I am confused as to how it even ranks on first page as there's two pages with custom colored marbles emphasis. Id like to clean this up as much as possible so there are no big hits with future google updates, but I don't want the site to drop off either as that would be hard to explain to the owner. Yeah, we are cleaning up your site and making it google compliant and in so doing you no longer rank on first page. That won't put food on the table. Thanks for any advise on this.

Should one page with markers or six separate pages?
Hi - I'm working on a site that was set up with 6 bios on one page, with markers jumping to each person's name. I was thinking about separating those into 6 different pages, but not sure if that's the right thing to do. Advice about keeping the bios on one page vs splitting them up? (Am I more likely to rank for those peoples' names if I have a unique page, or is the one page url with each different marker in it, just as good?) Ranking well for those names isn't a huge goal of the site, but it would be nice to make the choice that would help with that rank. Thanks for your input Emma

Spammy keywords on a page
My client's website has a box of text on each page that is spammy and horrible to read and stuffed with keywords. The text boxes are there only for search engines as they mean nothing to humans. I say remove them as it must be doing more harm than good. However, my client is scared to remove them as the text has been there on each page for ten years and he is worried about a drop in visitor numbers if they are removed. Is he right to be worried?
