Google is changing the title

Hi!
Lately i have seen that Google changed the page titles for some clients, not all... its about 30% of them.
For example, the title looks likes this after the Google change:
Company name: SEO and Pay per click management
But in on that page it looks like this:
SEO and Pay per click management - Company name
Does anyone know why?

It sounds like it's not so much about colons, but more about moving brands to the front of the title. Only time will tell whether it's a test or a permanent change.
I also want to add that I've seen this for general searches that do not include my company name / brand.

Interesting links, I hadn't seen these.
In my case the colon is not being used, although the original site title has a pipe separator in it. The page title is being displayed as the exact search phrase (which admittedly is not far off the original page title) but with rearranged wording and a couple of words left out entirely!
I'm in a non English market, not sure how that might effect the results.

You might be interested in reading this article and this thread on Inbound.org that brought this up a couple of weeks ago.
Too early to say what the potential ramifications might be, but I would say it's a safe assumption to make that Google is focusing more on more on promoting trustworthy brands. Bringing the brand name to the front often helps the user navigate through the SERPs, as opposed to the SEO optimised titles that we see out there.
Think we'll have to wait and see on this one, but hopefully those 2 links can help for the time being.

I have seen this also on a client site.
Not sure by any means, but it seems to happen when the search is for company brand + term, which i think is happening quite a lot in the market my client's site is in.
So in your case, if there are searches being done for 'Company name' + PPC Management for example, then Google seems to be switching the page title to match the search phrase.
That is what I could make out of it anyway... anyone else seeing this?

Duplicate Meta Titles and Descriptions Issue in Google Webmaster Tool
Hello All, We have one site named http://www.bargains-online.com.au/ & have some categories along with filter option on left side like filter by price & by brand, ect. We have already set rel canonical tags on all filtered pages, but still those all pages showing duplicate page titles and description warning in HTML Improvements section in Google Webmaster Tool. Missing Titles?
Hi All, Don't know if anyone can help me but Moz is showing lots of errors for my website for not having title tags for pages when they do? Also when a user refines they search results it is seeing every instance of this as a new page - we have canonical tags across the site to stop this happening yet it is still occurring each time - is there anything else we can do to resolve this problem? Page disappeared from Google index. Google cache shows page is being redirected.
My URL is: http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/converse Hi. The week before last, my top Converse page went missing from the Google index. When I "fetch as Googlebot" I am able to get the page and "submit" it to the index. I have done this several times and still cannot get the page to show up. When I look at the Google cache of the page, it comes up with a different page. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/converse shows: http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/pop-in-olivia-kim Back story: As far as I know we have never redirected the Converse page to the Pop-In page. However the reverse may be true. We ran a Converse based Pop-In campaign but that used the Converse page and not the regular Pop-In page. Though the page comes back with a 200 status, it looks like Google thinks the page is being redirected. We were ranking #4 for "converse" - monthly searches = 550,000. My SEO traffic for the page has tanked since it has gone missing. Any help would be much appreciated. Stephan

Changing URL - Ranking Disappeared?
Hi All, I named a page URL /plectrums/ within the back end framework. But then decided to change it to /personalised-plectrums/ I resubmitted a GWT sitemap and 301 redirected plectrums -> personalised-plectrums My ranking for personalised plectrums has disappeared and has not come back does anyone know why this is? Changing title tag in wordpress media pages
Hello! I have a problem of duplicate title on 59 pages in Worpress. I Guess it happened after a recent WP update, because, suddenly, I got a peak of 59 from zero in a day. The SeoMoz crawl report states that there are 59 duplicate title. As you may see in the picture those are all media pages, whose title is written really badly with the formula postname/filename/blogTitle, ending up with trunkated, too long, title tags, that result in duplicate page title. How can I simply hide these mediapages or sculpting the title tag the way I want? I am using all-in-one-seo WP plugin, which doesn't seem to provide a solution. Thank you all! Does Google index has expiration?
Hi, I have this in mind and I think you can help me. Suppose that I have a pagin something like this: www.mysite.com/politics where I have a list of the current month news. Great, everytime the bot check this url, index the links that are there. What happens next month, all that link are not visible anymore by the user unless he search in a search box or google. Does google keep those links? The current month google check that those links are there, but next month are not, but they are alive. So, my question is, Does google keep this links for ever if they are alive but nowhere in the site (the bot not find them anymore but they work)? Thanks

Changing TLD type
Hi, Our client required us to change the TLD of is domain. Currently it is something like www.xyz.qc.ca and they have registered www.xyz.ca which while be more easier to remember. What would be the best pratice for migrating the domain? Use webmaster tool domain change? Making the new domain name the defaut one and use 301 redirections? Or both ? Thank you M.Adey
