Encoding Apostrophes in HTML
-
One question I have recently been pondering is that the use of apostrophes in ALT attributes and anchor text seems to cause some erratic results from the 'Fetch as BingBot' tool... GWT doesn't color code the results so i only notice it with BingBot, although i can't necessarily tell that it causes any negative effects. My rankings on Bing are erratic though so who knows...
Should I encode apostrophes as ' when i use them in html? Or will it not really matter?

Unless you're trying to rank for something with an apostrophe in the query, it won't really matter.
If you are trying to rank for something with an apostrophe in the query, some searches with and without the apostrophe show that it matters a bit. You can just use the text ' , as both search engines have shown that they understand it. As long as it renders that way in your CMS (you can turn off images to check) you're fine.

Worth Improving HTML Sort Order?
Our developer has suggested that we alter our HTML so the important content appears at the very top of the source code and Google can index our pages more efficiently. Is this a worthwhile improvement in terms of improving ranking? Our developer describes the improvement in this manner: sort-order of the important content inside the code, so we may have similar text code ratio at the end but the important code we need Google to index will be at the very top in the source code, in terms of a very technical approach Google will find the key content faster and that should help to improve the crawling process as search engines read HTML code linearly. This change do not necessarily will affect the HTML, we can achieve it by using style sheet (CSS code) instead, reducing the chance of major BUGs. Thanks, Alan

Is there any benefit to this? Should I remove it and just have them end with a forward slash?
If I 301 redirect the old .html URLs to the forward slash URLs, will I lose PA? Thanks!0 -
301 Redirection and apostrophes in URLs
Hi I am experiencing trouble getting any redirects with apostrophes in the URLs to 301 redirect in order to eliminate 404 errors. I have tried replacing the instance of the apostrophe in the source URL field to %27 and variations of this but to no avail. The site is a wordpress site (the old URLS are legacies from the old Business Catalyst site) and I am using the redirection plug in. I have gone into some detail with a helpful soul here http://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-to-deal-with-apostrophes-in-source-url but unfortunately to no result. If anyone has any idea how to solve this puzzle I would be grateful for the help. How To 301 Redirect .html pages
I need to redirect a page/URL that is purely .html to a new location. I don't know how to do this. All the redirects I can find are for server side code pages .php/.aspx etc. From my understanding I can't put a server side redirect in a .html file. I am hosting on a microsoft server, however the new page I am redirecting to is .php. I am running some WordPress (.php) files on the server. I need to make it redirect before the old page loads so visitors don't start reading something that is about to get redirected Can someone please help me?
